    "Turning a danger into an inconvenience ." Words for the day ,,,Thanks Russ .. It is amazing how many drivers know only forward and on and not drop back and see who needs to fill the space .. SO many ways to avoid a problem ... Happy Spring from New England ..Yours Guy

    Always enjoy your uploads - just wish they were more frequent. I am not sure I agree with your implied criticism of car drivers showing bad preparation by not changing lanes immediately on seeing Lane Closed Ahead signs. Proper way to use lanes to maximise capacity is stay in lane until reaching the lane end then zippering in turn into the open lane. If everyone changes to lane 2 on siting a Lane Closed Ahead sign then it causes congestion.
    Just me being picky

    • @RoadcraftNottingham
      @RoadcraftNottingham  Рік тому

      Fair point, maybe not immediately but I suppose my biggest gripe are people that either don't see the sign until the last minute through lack of planning or ones that accelerate up to the sign like that silver car did so they then push in, only to make 5 cars earlier when others are politely fitting in. Thanks for your comment. ☺

    Only minor mark I got on my bike test was setting a point of no return, came up to a junction that had been recently resurfaced so had loose gravel, lights changed but I deemed it a slip risk to brake there and went through safely on amber, examiner gave me a minor, debated with him after the test and he agreed I did the right thing but letter of the law was a minor for travelling through an amber light

    I must say your teaching style is so relaxed and friendly.
    I had my 4 day DAS last week and to be honest it was not an enjoyable experience .
    I unfortunately failed my Mod 1 due to a silly mistake , but my instructor had no empathy during instruction.

    I admit I don’t use the indicators all the time if there is nobody around. I don’t always remember to cancel.
    I am a bit surprised how often you don’t. Use them when there is traffic around. Particularly somebody following you. Can they hear what you are saying.

  • @ramsy66
    @ramsy66 Рік тому

    At 2:45 what would be the response here if they did suddenly move over? I worry that moving into position 3 with the oncoming traffic lane so close (and 40mph) could result in a panic movement over to the right - where the oncoming traffic is already dangerously close. Would it not benefit keeping in position 2 and keeping the driver in view in their mirror? I feel like you're spending too long in their blind spot in position 3
    I'm probably over-thinking it and I'm sure you'll tell me the correct reasons and responses :)

    • @RoadcraftNottingham
      @RoadcraftNottingham  Рік тому

      Fair question. With anticipation comes time to react so no panic movements. If I suspect them coming over I can either sound my horn, brake or accelerate but very rarely the latter unless the first two are no longer options. I tell my people "react, don't react"
      Hope this answers your question.

  • @fig7268
    @fig7268 Рік тому

    Excuse me if I am being stupid, I love your videos and they are a huge help to me, I have a little question, at 1:33, you did not do a shoulder/mirror check while merging, looking at the video it is clear no one is there to warrant it but my last instructor (who was very good) said to check check and check again, you even went so far as to check under the van for legs, why did you not do a left hand side check when merging to the left, I can see why not but if I had taken the test and not done this I feel I would have been called out for it.

    • @RoadcraftNottingham
      @RoadcraftNottingham  Рік тому

      The speed on approach and effective mirrors made a left check there unnecessary. Even on your test in that situation it would have been perfectly fine.

    Hi can I ask why you appear to be overlapping braking and gear change. I thought they had to be done separately. If I have it wrong I apologise.

    • @RoadcraftNottingham
      @RoadcraftNottingham  Рік тому

      That's ok, there'll certainly be an element of overlap from time to time, it's totally acceptable in my examples. Thanks for your comment.

    Russ, I'm finding one of the biggest dangers riding in Notts is the poor state of the roads. New holes appear, existing don't get filled. I ride allover the country and our roads are amongst the worst.

    Nice ride and commentary. I noticed that, a couple of times, you set off from lights on red-and-amber rather than waiting for the green; I’ve been caught out by red light runners coming from another direction which makes that unsafe imo so I always wait for full green before setting off AND check for red light runners. Thoughts?

    • @RoadcraftNottingham
      @RoadcraftNottingham  Рік тому +1

      Yes, I do that, good spot. The main reason I do is to get away from cars behind me but I do also check for jumpers from the other direction. Thanks for watching. ☺

      I use to watch but that was it as i never had a motorbike i just found them interesting.. its not until i was going for my mod 1 last year and watched a Leanna video that things started to make sense.
      I watched a lot of American videos only found two that were really useful and since i realised you was the same person I use to watch i am now paying great attention 🤣but Leanna has no worries she's still my number 1 🤣

      at 10.49 on the point of no return it was ok for you to go but am i right in assuming that your student should of stopped as no return for you but not them. just want i saw in your mirror 😊but video might be a bit deceiving..
