07:00 either ipeout or pacer, 1rst game of a studio made of the ppl who made wipeout, after sony closed the studio(& gave another team the recent wipeouts to make a bundle out of em)
Much obliged Kuru! And seeing you and your chat point out that even NFS hasn't had Private Lobbies since NFS 2010 had me kicking myself for forgetting to mention that. Could've hammered the point home even further, but oh well. Thank you for checking it out!
What you said is literally true about everything and most importantly is Sim-racing. Sim-racing was a worst game that tried to distinguish between what people wanted to play and what people tried to play but in reality is total failure. I have playing all of them and none can satisfied me at all because its just ARCADE game in disguise of Sim-racing, thats all. Those "Sim-racers" are just wannabe Pro-racers while in reality cant even distinguished between driving in real-life is not same like driving in racing games except REAL Pro-racers who drives a lot of cars and make their own achievement and titles in real world. Arcade and sim-arcade games doesnt even care about that and they just play happily without need of sim-racing did on each races and each tracks, its become painstakingly boring and dull to play. What we need right now is a racing game that doesnt need any kind of paywall-locked, cutting contents into DLC, and no-major issue when launched like all these game released since PS3/X360 era. Battle Pass (Racing Pass) is fine as long as it doesnt forced you to buying it for another paywall-locked contents (skins excluded). I already tired with all new racing games, they just being LAZY and NO INNOVATION at all, thats a fact.
They're not dead but boring. Developers are afraid of taking big risks now. I mean... look at Blur and Split/Second: Velocity. One had real cars but also power ups and really unique driving model, the other had really interesting feature of changing tracks and using traps on maps. Now we just see safe clones of NFS/Forza/GT without any new/crazy/fresh features. Even game modes are really basic (or taking battle royal like in Fortnite - forza case).
Don't forget Mario Kart. I've seen Disney wanna challenges Mario Kart with one of their Racing Games featuring their character and I'll bet other companies wanted to do the same after Disney and SEGA with their Sonic Racing
they dont need to be taking risks just made games finished and enjoyable i hate forza's dirving all cars feels same and other racing games we play this games what the developers want us to play wr cant select our style of gaming or modification. because of some play style or modifications are broken.
They took a big risk with Unbound in its style... but it was just regurgitated cars, mods, story line and "tweaked" physics. Heat was good, but the story was lacking. Blur and Split/Second never had a "story" it had a goal, simple, yet elegant. For a classics NFS fan myself I loved Blur and Split/Second. Kuruh's go to is MW05, mine is High Stakes. FH3 is the same as 4 and 5. I noticed that right away and I never played Forza before being it was always locked to Xbox until they realized they have a wider fanbase outside the Xbone.
@@NXT_LVL more of an art style look than gameplay risk. I'm talking about the second. It doesn't matter if game is beautiful or mid in terms of graphic design as far as it's super fun :D I got into NFS since NFS1: SE but my fav was NFS3: HP as well! :) and as I appreciate good story that pushes you forward in single player campaign the most important thing in the racing game is well.... racing :D
Raycevick hit the nail on the head with this one. For me, racing games are getting closer and closer to a day-time job, from the chillout sesh after a long day it once was. Honestly, why does it either have to be THE most mundane experience in the world, OR the most exhausting experience in the world? It's just feels unintuitive to choose between playing a half-assed arcade game with the controller and the fully "fleshed out" *simulator* where you have to set up the wheel and pay up hundreds of dollars for "lazer-scanned" tracks (woohoo, right guys?) to get the best experience. It's off-putting, to say the least, to really not be inspired and interested at all by racing games anymore, with it being the "thing" back in the day. Keep finding myself just playing the old but gold titles now and again, but very rarely.
Not only racing games are becoming closer to jobs, gaming in general. I remember spending hours in GTA Online working, ressuplying to have money to buy cool cars. The fun game modes in GTA just don't worth it and you almost always find a cheater/modder (at least on PC) to ruin your day.
@@phzitos_I mean... because of the way money is generated and everything in GTA Online combined with the obscenely high prices to bait Shark Card purchases it led to the lobbys having 4 types of players 1. Grinders: they have strategically found the fastest way to get money and they do that, you know like a job 2. Modders: Actually are having fun, mainly at the cost of others and accounts 3. Troll: Dude got an Orbital Cannon, the Oppressor Mk.2 and a Lazer P996 and he's not gonna hold back on you 4. Old Player Checking back in seeing the chaos, embracing it for a bit then leaving GTA for another year
My favourite casual racing game was Forza Horizon granted it was an after school thing for me but just the freedom to explore, race or mod to your heart's content, the festival actually existed and looked quite good (esp. for 2012 on the Xbox) The game just didn't want to bother you with stuff too much so you are free to play your casual arcade racer without all the constant hassle that it is with the constant wheelspins and everything now.
I love racing since I can’t afford to mantain a car for now and with wheel a I can race even not having a car. So I will forever love *simulators* Although, studying abroad I don’t have my wheel, and I wanted hard to race. You know what I did instead of buying a game from today? I bought a xbox 360 and will play for the first time forza games and midnight Los Angeles. I’m choosing the games to play from trailers as if they were out in the market now. I feel like the baby me going to gamestop searching for a game with my father. That day we bought togheter gran turismo 4. I’ve never felt so good since a long time, like I finally found interior peace.
I mean assetto Corsa with friends is absolutely the best and most chill driving experience you can have. From F1 on spa, to gt 3 on nordschleife to drifting on any of the tracks to open world free roam with any cars in the world at all. Not to mention how engaging a simulator experience is. That's why simulators don't need powerups, nos or an fov of 300 with insane camera shake to be insanely fun. They're engaging. To me this complaining seems to be everyone trying to find themselves the absolute perfect game that they find nothing wrong with. Of course it doesn't exist. The bad side of simulators are that they require effort and commitment. But it's worth it. Of course everything will feel exhausting if setting up a wheel or even researching the games available is overwhelming work. That's why modern games are dull and dont want to take any risks. People complain about everything. You also *don't* have to pay hundreds of dollars for tracks and cars in other games except iRacing. So there are options to choose from, you just choose to ignore them.
the saddest thing is, it's not just games, its all racing related media, initial d was great, now the author is making a series where a stock gt86 gains time on an r8 going in a straight line, or whatever the fast and furious series turned into. It's a shame, but I guess that's what happens when you get a niche sort of genre like racing
what's even sadder is in the racing anime/manga is other than Initial D, Wangan Midnight and some other less known like Overrev is there is still other racing manga that is not very known to other people outside of Japan, heck probably even within Japan. Like not even the new one like Inochigake demo Tarinai Nosa, GT-giRl and Osaka Mad Family (of which I still WAITING for the first chapter to be translated), but even the older one like Shatokan Boogie, Goddamn and Countach are still not been touched by someone for a long time. And that is the manga/anime alone. Let alone other media like movies that focused on cars. Back then I remember a movie that focused about a death race and that is like what, from mid 2000s and that is still interesting. Nowadays, not a lot of directors wanna touch about racing genre aside of FF series which become a has been and like ONE that I can think of which is Ford v Ferrari. sorry for the long rant but yeah, the racing media prolly need a rebirth at this point.
@@raifurunanodesu9003 Wangan Midnight has an arcade game series that the publisher absolutely refused to port over to consoles or pc, it's mindboggling.
@@wotwott2319 ah yes, pretty much the only way to play WMMT AND ID:AS is through emulators but even then it's not the latest one either. Shame too since its been a quite a long time since their last attempt to bring Wangan Midnight and Initial D games in the home consoles too
@@raifurunanodesu9003 *Laughs at you while playing WMMT on the local arcades here* Jokes aside, I wish they could bring it to PC/Console as well. Playing on the arcades is well and good but on crowded days it's a nightmare + it's quite expensive in the long run to play in the arcades lol.
22:02 I feel like they are hoping for the next Underground/Most Wanted situation. Nobody asked for customization in Underground, yet Underground was a success. Similarly, nobody asked for cops, yet Most Wanted was a success. So, companies are just trying random things in hopes that something will succeed.
They did ask for cops lmao. Look at the review section of the Wikipedia article on Need for Speed Underground 2. One of the criticisms of the game was its lack of cops. Also customisation was kinda already in the series as Need for Speed 4: High Stakes had performance upgrades and the ability to make changes to the setup of the cars like adjusting gear ratios, aerodynamics etc.
In those concepts art pieces, we could all see our own game. I saw a nfs game where we could canyon race on Mars or drift around cryo-volcaneos. Where we could do dirt races in the moons craters or circuits in space stations. Other may see something else, but thats the point. If I had the ability to code and make this dream game, I wouldn't be here typing this. But if someone else does have the skills, don't wait. Take whatever potential game you just saw and make it reality.
I saw something with more Split Second, Mad Max and Motorstorm DNA in it. Blasting across ramshackle tracks, bits of buildings falling down, evading dystopian, militaristic authorities, using homemade weaponry to take down their vehicles like harpoons, dropping spikes onto the road, etc. You use money you win from races and other modes to buy parts for your car to upgrade them, add new weapons, upgrade the weapons, etc. Of course, having real cars would cause a ton of problems, but with fictional vehicles you can do lots of cool stuff without any worry about restrictions. Not just cars but motorcycles, trucks, and crazy stuff you saw in motorstorm, with equipment and parts from old construction equipment welded on to make them capable in different ways. Game modes could include not just racing, but a goal to destroy a certain amount of military vehicles, maybe causing as much destruction in an area as possible. Incorporate a pinch of Far Cry/Just c=Cause in it and give it a story about taking down an authoritarian regime. Nothing incredible, but something fun with a little extra motivation and drive to have that "fight the power" and destroy a bunch of stuff to free society or something goofy like that. I dunno about you, but I'm frothing at the mouth for a game like that. At a certain point it becomes less and less of a racing game, but I'd be down for an over the top driving game that inspires more pure racing games to be more creative.
He might have some dumb takes sometimes but he is spitting nothing but pure facts here. He's not being overly negative, he's just aware. And no racing as a genre isn't dead but it's not really alive either. It's a zombie.
it's like the state shooters were in from... 2008-2015 ish, just a lot longer. indie experiments should hopefully start expanding things, but there's a lot of rut that needs to be broken out of
@@j377yb33n Or fighting games for a good while. It's there, but it's lacking a lot of things be it quality of life stuff, or things that make it fun and stick around, or all of the above (and yet other genres had got it down).

Not here to tart an argument, but what dumb takes does rayce have? 99% of what I've heard him say is more or less spot on, and the 1% is just subjective things I disagree with.
The problem with the nfs "just rivals re released 5 different ways" argument is that it doesnt work, because it applies to the second era games too, prostreet was the same engine as underground, just modified to fit its purpose. It's all Eagle, just generations, 1 through whatever, between hot pursuit 2 through undercover, I think The Run was the only black box nfs that actually deviated from the engine THEY created in favor of the Frostbite engine, which, while The Run was an incredible game, is VASTLY inferior to the Eagle engine that was purpose built for arcade racing
HotWheels games such as World Race and Stunt Track Challenge back on the PS2 were so addicting to play. 😮💨 ua-cam.com/video/57rF273bBDY/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
I still play Split/Second with the same excitement from day one, a game that came out 13 years ago. A game that marked my life and that proved that you don't need an incredible story or sophisticated physics, it's pure fun and adrenaline, with a soundtrack and action that makes you feel like you're the protagonist of a Hollywood movie. Games like that, despite being so good, sadly end up dying, even though they are the best ones.
My problem with nfs unbound's artstyle isn't that it has cellshaded characters or cartoony effects my problem is they didn't fully commit to cartoony style. Map and cars still looks too realistic to fit cartoony style and feels like they just slapped all those effects on previous game
I was gonna bring it up if I didn't see it, but at 37:44 when Raycevick says "Independence" it shows a clip of a racing game I've been seeing a lot of new about recently called Night-Runners. Everything about it looks so exciting and I really wanna try it out! It nails the PS2 era aesthetic that the developers are trying for and it'll be a new type of racing game that I haven't really played yet, something kinda like Wangan Midnight but as a play-at-home video game rather than an anime / manga / arcade cabinet.
as someone that loves racing games and fighting games, there sure are a lot of overlap between the two when it comes to keeping up with other games currently. feels like both these genres are getting left behind in terms of quality, content, online, etc. i really can't stop loving either of these genres though, i grew up with both from the ps1, ps2 era. i wonder if these games should start dialing back on better graphics part and spending more time/budget on the content/gameplay ;-;
FGC got diversity. We got SF for pro people We got KoF for people who likes flashy stuff We got Mahvel for people who love Chaos We got Guilty Gear for stylist lover We can't really compare both genre because the FG are well alive and had been for years know with Dragon Ball, latest seasons of SF5,KoF15 coming in, Guilty Gear. The FG games only lacked offline content, but they have been stepping up the last few years too. That's something the racing genre do not have. We don't have this amount of diversity and options to choose on. All we got is "Sim racing #1...Damn man. Let jump into a new game. Sim racing #2... This feel like the same game... Ok let's try another one. Sim racing #3...IS THE SAME GAME!. Sim racing #1 did better... Ok let's go for Arcade.... This is just Sim racing #1,bur worst... Aight... I guess i'm going back to Forza i supposed... Wow this game sucks. is the same game from Forza 3, but worse." That's the experience of us racing game lovers nowadays.
To me, the game who reached closer to Driver SF's shift mechanic was Sleeping Dogs, which you can jump from one car to another. It's not the same and very limited, because you literally jump with Wei Shen, but Driver's was more stylish, letting you navigate through the map and each car had a different conversation between characters
Imagine growing up in a time when car culture was widespread, only to see the (spiritual) departure of companies that really worked on their racing games. What a shitty time to be a racing fan seeing disappointment after disappointment.
He forgot the game that's very easily the best in its current state: TRACKMANIA 2020 It's not the base game, the devs, outstanding physics or sth like that that makes it great, but what they're doing is offering the perfect playground for the community and the community does tons of outstanding stuff ranging from variable driving styles, beatiful scenery, creative route mapping and all levels of difficulty to complete stupidity which results in more fun than I've had in all other racing games of recent years combined. It even has the most competitive racing league in eSports, but also a very competitive daily format that everyone can enjoy. The physics are mostly easy to start with but hard to master and while you start playing and learning you actively notice your improvements in skill which is also super satisfying. It is different from other racing games in that it has no collisions and is basically speedrunning only, but speedrunning in rounds against other players can be just as enjoyable and if you include Hot Wheels Unleashed in this video, Trackmania 2020 more than deserves its spot in this video as well, just not as a tragedy but as one of the sparks of hope in the genre.
@@K3ntucky123 10 bucks per year for standard access and 45 bucks for three years of club access is totally fine for a game that continuously gets updated with improvements and additional campaigns and blocks for mapping. If you really dive into the game you'll get houndreds to thousands of hours of great experiences and I think that's actually quite affordable. There's really nothing wrong with this type of monetization for such a game and it even let's you play the campaigns for free, so that you can first try it and see if you want to play more! :)
@@K3ntucky123 10 bucks a year for a very good game is not a rig. I've been playing Trackmania for 20 years and 10 bucks for TM2020 a year was completely worth it, I've already played it way more than all TM2 and TM Turbo, for which I also payed way more than a yearly subscription.
@@K3ntucky123 it isnt that bad tho. you still can play other gamemodes like matchmaking, current campaigns and open lobbies with occasion free to play cup/track of the day w/o subscription. but yeah the subscription is the catch and it certainly could have been better with just a one time payment imo.
Sim racing fans have way too much pride to admit that their sim racing games suck just as much as their counterparts. And because arcade racers aren't the real deal they're immediately bad games.
I personally believe that the PS2 era was the best ever and it's not coming back. Games had beautiful graphics already, great gameplay, reasonable variety and the other stuff we like in games. Imo best deal is a nice PS2 emulator and the seven seas of lost titles.
I have a PS2 and a 360. It's basically a dream team for racing games... and almost every other genre tbh. Ridge Racer 5/6, all console Burnout games, 10 NFS games including U2 and MW, Blur, Split/Second, Driver SF, PGR4, Forza Horizon 1, all Midnight Club games, Tokyo Extreme Racer games including Import Tuner Challenge, Flatout Ultimate, Auto Modellista, Road Trip Adventure, Wipeout Fusion, Twisted Metal Black, Juiced 1/2, Street Racing Syndicate, Outrun 2006, Motorstorm Artic Edge, Gran Turismo 3/4, etc. Then you have less traditional stuff like Splashdown, Star Wars Racer Revenge, if you're tired of cars but still want to race or the kart racer style such as Wacky Races, Crash Nitro Kart, Looney Tunes Space Race, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, Jak X, etc.
@@Manic_Panicand the funny thing is that back then YOU HAD ALOT OF OPTIONS on what type of racing gamegame you wanted. Nowadays it feels sparce and too safe.
NFS needs a long hard look at what made the series the most profit. For such a greedy company you think EA would be trying harder to appease the fanbases of the series that make it money, but apparently no? It needs to stop trying to invent the wheel each game and just focus on a polished, good and fun experience that plays into the identity of NFS. The core identity, which to me is NFSU-Carbon and if people disagree, that's fine but argue with the fact, those games sold the most and thus are the identity most know NFS as. Before or after doesn't mean much by comparison.
But it's exactly the fact they're reinventing the wheel for each game that makes the Black Box era so unique in terms of identity, even tho the core gameplay is largely the same. People can tell apart Underground, Most Wanted, Carbon, Prostreet, and others fairly well bcoz of that. They're getting some of that back with Heat and Unbound, which already look quite unique in the modern NFS era, but there's still a long way to go.
@@sailor7537, if only that worked. Uniqueness is good, but they are obviously failing. Maybe it's time reject uniqueness and return to -monke- stuff, that worked?
I always say it and say it again, realism has ruined not only racing genre but most genres. Everything needs to be realistic and that leaves very few room for fun
its so good to read what im preaching for years. Screw that absolute realism and make games that are fun! All Games from around 2000-2010 are no way near realistic and thats why im playing them over and over. doesnt mean there wont be any realistic games. but let them be a niche.
Speak for yourself, I would kill for a street racing sim tbh. Nothing like it exists. The closest you can get to that is a mod for Live for Speed, a game from 2004... OR you can mod Asetto Corsa to drive beefed up tuner cars with traffic mod on the Japanese highways, but that still doesn't have cops (or any objective, it's just freeroaming).
God I wish those concept art were for a future racing game coming out. My eyes widen out of pure shock and awe, I felt my body begin to tingle in excitement and amazement! WHY MUST I FEEL THIS WAY FOR CONCEPT ART THAT MAY NEVER TURN INTO A REAL GAME!!!! Those concept art reminded me of this anime I watched called Redline, where humans and humanoid beings race each other across multiple planets in a solar system, with a verity of vehicles, from spaceship powered muscle cars to hovercrafts! It was a wonderful anime that I was glad to see! That what those concept art reminded me of. The one time I felt excited for a new racing game was GT7 ( I was like cool, they said they are bringing back some of the features from the first set of GT games and all of that and of course it look beautiful!) Unfortunately it had a very rocky start and even now, wasn't able to satisfied gamers. If there were to be the next greatest racing game to be made, I hope for it to be like those concept art or something similar to Redline!
F-Zero games and its cast of characters and the lore each of them has - was pretty similar to redline. Only thing missing was the old school muscle cars.
Simracing as a whole.... If you mean arcadish games were never meant to be realistic then yeah that's kinda true but also obvious. If you mean that every game related to racing shouldn't be realistic then you're wrong, ever since a kid I've wanted a realistic racing experience, simply because I am not able to (and probably will never be) able to hop on a gt3, f1 or smth like that and do a race at Spa
@@theunusual_ yeah arcade racing true, it's not supposed to be realistic I agree, tho some realism here and there won't hurt, but it shouldn't be treated as a sim
I personally felt the small team flew too close to the sun with their ambition, but I won't complain about more games like it coming out. I've seen a lot of indie developers saying "fuck it" and making the racing games they want to see, and it's only a matter of time before some of them will knock it out of the park, some even already have.
You have so much freedom when you don't use licensed vehicles, but the game won't sell and that's an issue with the racing community in general, sad times
but as core gamepaly it still seems sligtly worse version of flatout 2/UC with fansier graphics with pretty gringy story on it but still looking pretty fun
I miss Genki Racing Project games.. Hell, I'd like a follow up to R Racing Evolution, Ridge Racer, and Auto Modelista too. I'd be real happy with a new RC de Go and Tamiya Mini 4WD game on consoles/handhelds as well
Genki is the only one who can break this loop of same damn boring as stale generic looking racing game era we are living. Genki games they weren't peak of racing model, but their games were so unique, special, full of personality, with AI who got their own stories and way of driving while having a racing model that was more focus on having fun than replicanting a Sim. I would want ANYTHING from them because anything would be so different that what we get nowadays
Not dying, but like most people already said,boring/plain Last 3 racing games I enjoyed were Hot Wheels,GT7 and GRID Legends Hot Wheels really puts you in that feeling of Trackmania style tracks with every car being unique GT7 is more of a personal enjoyment. I know Sport mode is BUSTED beyond repair but I spent few hundred hours modifying and testing cars GRID Legends suprised me a lot with the one thing: Nostalgia! It's a grind game,it is more of an arcade than a simulator but you can make it very difficult. Fun drifting mechanic once you get used to it. And the soundtrack... Ian Livingstone you mad dog did it again 👏
Yep. Racing Games nowadays just plays safe with copying NFS/Horizon/Mario Kart games instead something New and Fresh. Like Man.... I appreciate that but, what will it takes to see something new to the table like Blur or Burnout or Need For Speed before Underground?
GRID Legends is kinda ironic because I saw people complain that gameplay mechanic-wise it was exactly the same as GRID 2019 (which I can't say much since I haven't played 2019), but yeah, I found it a fun grind, and damn I would be lying if I said that the live-action cutscenes aspect didn't hook me in. And yeah, even the people comparing it with GRID 2019 said that the soundtrack was the one thing to look for.
I mean, for "old" players like myself who've played NFS Underground 1 and 2, MW/Carbon, GRID, Colin McRae Rally and stuff, there's always a bit of nostalgia in games from years apart. But even then, the games made you WANT to play them, fun but intuitive, interesting but not demanding enough, and you actually could have fun without looking out for the meta or the esports playthrough. I feel like many devs don't actually play the games they develop or people in general expect more cars and tracks than actual good racing and features.
Yeah was kinda surprised when i played a Formula1 game with a friend and the ki was way more aggressive than the drivers in crashday. Crashday is a racing game where you get a gatling gun and a rocket launcher, but until you shot or crash into someone they won´t attack you. Crashday got released in 2006 and the F1 game was from 2021. Only thing that got better was the graphic in recent years.
to add to this, i have been playing gta online for more than a year, and tried unbound online a few months ago. and there is a massive difference between how the cars felt in the two. i feel like gta online racing drove better than the latest nfs. one company was able to nail an aspect as a subcomponent to the system while multiple are failing to do so when its supposed to be their core.
This, ive always thought gta online racing is a better nfs than nfs in terms of handing, cars and modification variety and even atmosphere with stuff like car meets and the tuners dlc. Just too bad the gta playerbase is more interested in griefing each other than racing.
talking about the Rogue-like Racing game concept, i think in a setting of something like Cannonball Run/Gumball 3000 type racing i think it would work pretty good or even NFS:The Run. and instead of each area being based on real life, make it like what the video said, Fantasy/Sci-fi/anything and the way you travel between each areas is obviously portals with checkpoints in between for upgrades and such and the checkpoints are themed around combining the last area you just completed and the next area youre going into, you start with stock-ish cars and the by the end/the further you go, the more your car is gonna look like a Death Race/Mad max or Blade runner/Cyberpunk depending on the type of build youre going with, theres a WHOLE lot more ideas and potential to this but if i go any further itll become a book lol.
Honestly racing games don't even need much innovation at this point. Releasing feature complete and functional without being a rip-off would be amazing these days. Sure the list of expected features would not be short, but it shouldn't be impossible to make something that's just a decent, playable racing game.
It's not just racing games, but video games in general that just feel souless and void of any character, charm or fun these days. When someone gets excited to replay Drive Club rather than the excitement of the new Forza Motorsport or GT7 then you know something is seriously wrong with the industry.
What games do you play? Every time I see the topic of games feel "souless" nowadays I feel like the person just grew out of gaming. There's always great games coming out

Like Raycevick said. A Racing game in a Setting that's not like our world. Take a Cyberpunkt like world mixed with Fantasy elements, Cities, Deserts, Jungles maybe even The Crew Like with Airplanes and Boats. Take Real Vehicles and change them into a Cyberpunk like style but still customizable. Put in a Complex Cop and Heat System, Open World, Private and Open Multiplayer, Territory Control (maybe even against other players), Sponsors, Legal and Illegal Races like in NFS Heat and so much more. Racing has potential and nobody dares to utilize it. Everyone wants to make the next top notch Sim Racing and the Arcade Racers have some good ideas but lack something the community wants like Need for Speed. EDIT: Damn even make it Early Access and take input from the community. I would wait years for a full release for a good Racing Game that is genuine fun.
@@jammygamer8961 Yes Prostreet is my second favorite NFS. Everything worked. Plenty of tracks and modes. Good Music and a nice sense of speed and or handling. And legal racing for a change with no open world didn't make it bad just unique at that time.
You know what? even The Run was pretty unique, the idea of having 1000 racers with a track that goes across the country, the main problem is just it's way too short and too linear and streamlined, i think it would've been cooler if on each state you have a limited days staying there to fuel up, upgrade/buy car by challenging nearest racers, or idk? missions? delivery or something, then you move on to the next stage, each with unique interactions and content on it, like those early 2010s RPG games, where open world is still limited by the hardware so they opted into the idea with different areas on different chapters.
Behaviour Interactive actually kinda hits home for me, not because of anything they've done, but because I keep seeing one of their recruitment ads every morning when I take the metro to school lol. I guess it never struck me until now that they're an actual real game studio that actually makes real games
Racing games are just boring. They're too afraid to branch out or stand-out. Forza is a gamepass seller now, and it's so child-friendly and makes so much money from new fans that the old fans don't really have a voice anymore. GT7 has had a great formula for years until the confusing release of GT Sport and then the microtransactions in GT7. NFS finally decided to be different with not just car customization as they've already been doing, but mixing the cel-shading, graffiti effects, and realism, yet they forgot to actually give us a game and instead gave us Heat 2.0, which they dropped the ball on, gave us 9 new cars and just told us to do whatever and they'll be back in 4 months to update the game. And indie games usually focus on one niche area of racing that migth interest some more than others. There's no soul anymore, these studios just want our money.
The video Kuru was reacting to, doesn't even relate to just racing, it's all games in general. Imagine having a game nowadays, where it doesn't take itself so seriously, worked perfectly out the box, was affordable for everyone to play, and most important of all, IT'S FUN TO PLAY. Everything is trying to be so cinematic and perfect, yet they fail with that everytime. Why can't GOW for example, have a quest where you fight unicorns for example, break the mould of the game. Why can't GOW have it's full on gore back again, ripping heads off, boobs, sex mini games, literally it's core it had all those years ago, has gone. I'm not really hitting out at GOW, I'm sure it's a good game either way, but my point still stands, there isn't any fun anymore. Most companies will just fill a map with boring side quests, bloated map collectibles, and the general gaming public will lap up again and again. Where has the soul gone? Every release doesn't have to break the boundaries everytime of technology, it just has to be fun to play, no micros, no DLC just free content added as a token gesture, a working on launch game with no patches (doesn't need to be perfect either), silly game modes, online lobbies, couch co-op (doesn't matter if no one uses this, just add it, it will benefit someone). Literally ditch ranked modes, just let everyone play the game for fun, customisable lobbies can be for the hardcore players of said game. Anyways, I don't wanna add anymore to what I've already said, I just want fun games again.
i think companies need to take a step back in many ways and look at the past if they want a future. i still haven't seen anyone referring to how we are no longer free in any career mode, being dragged from one race to the next instead of picking the events we want when we want. gt3 and 4, fm3 and 4. holding our hands rewarding you for losing is the big thing now, there are no losers. instead of the get good attitude of for example midnight club 3 or any midnight club for that matter. a racing gamer only needs three things to be really happy, fun, handling, and a reasonable challenge. I'm an oldie so i started out on the first gran turismo and the first forza. up to the fourth on both. after that they lost their way and forgot the three basics that made them.
I just want the fun back in racing games, everything seems to head towards "realism", i'm using a game to relax and have fun, not go and respect traffic law, i have a real car for that, i remember the days NFSUG2 and Juiced had an online ladder, not a "speedrun ladder" or a speedlists where you're racing alone just to get a second over the next guy, i want competitiveness while racing against other people, something to keep me playing online, no wonder every NFS that comes out now gets a peak of popularity after launch and quickly dies after a month or two, there is no reason to go back to the game. Literally the only racing game i've kept playing and coming back to is Blur, and that came out 13 years ago, shame it never got the sequel it deserved.
It depends on which TrackMania game it is. And there likely is a reason why Raycevick hasn't mentioned TrackMania 2020. Simply put... It isn't one. Or at least it isn't one that fans loved.
32:44 This could be awesome if you had the rogue-like element be done through a racing company, as opposed to the driver(s). Outside of the races you're playing as a company manager or something and need to deal with the crew, the driver(s) and the car(s), and inside of the races you're playing as a particular driver racing with a particular car. Could start off with a beater that you're earning money to fix up and upgrade, and eventually you turn it into a full racing car and hire a second driver with their own car. Accidents in races do real damage to the cars that can force them out of events and require you to pay money to fix, maybe even forcing the choice between spending more money upfront to get back into the same racing tier or spending less money upfront to get back into a lower, safer tier to earn money more safely. A car may end up being too heavily damage forcing you to write it off and junk it, or a driver may end up being injured forcing them to sit an event out or even leave the crew since they can't race anymore. Run out of money, cars and drivers, and it's game over for good.
Literally, and figuratively: Download PCSX2. Acquire a Gran Turismo 4 ISO. Download the texture pack. Setup your wheel with PCSX2. That's it. Have actual fun in a game with actual content and actual progression that'll remain interesting for hundreds of hours. Return to monke.
honestly the stuff at 30:40 looks like it'd make for an insane beam mod, especially once we have better optimization for massive maps and carreers/campaign mode are something people know how to make decently
I feel like a lot of people who believe the racing genre is in a lull really don't branch out from games or series they're comfortable with. You can't really expect things to change if you don't branch out and expand horizons (and neither can developers). There's still some racers being made, but just wander outside of the familiar a few times. Break Arts II, Beam.NG drive, Aero GPX, Victory Heat Rally, Fast Beat Loop Racer GT, Engine Evolution 2022, Trackmania, Cartoonite, CarX Online, Speedonauts, Neodash, Wreckreation, and Hot Lap League are some of the recent titles. (some of which are in development and a few which are Early Access) Sure, most of what I list is arcade, but think about it. Those games often don't have licensed cars, licensed soundtracks, and they have their own unique levels (most of the time). Considering that most sim racers do use similar tracks, lots of real-world models, real-world tracks, etc. It's hard to expect them to be able to afford many creative risks. (most importantly, arcade racers are objectively more accessible) What would be nice is to see more main stream racers (if they need to use real world cars) create fictional (but believable) venues for racing, to save on costs primarily to increase development quality. We do have Forza Horizon doing good in that regard, but we do need less giants alone at the top and more racers to be elevated. Branch out and expand your horizons if you feel like racing genre is stagnant. You don't have to replace what you like. Just *add* to it.
17:07 I do miss that thing in old Call of Duty titles though (Also... No Steam was needed - Do you remember that???) - Matchmaking (Or whatever it's called) is so much cancer since MW2 That I stopped playing Multiplayer... Until like IW4x came out.
I would like NFS to go with the Porsche Unleashed formula again, but not restricting itself to one brand. Get rid of the story altogether and make the cars and the tracks the only things that matter in the game, and instead of simply going from weaker GT cars all the way up to hypercars, it could be done through decades or eras. It would also simplify the matter of balance because you don't have to throw realism away to make something like, say, the Diablo, Murciélago and Aventador part of the same tier just because the three are supercars. The decade/era separation shows the player that no, they are not comparable even though they were part of the same market section.
As someone who just tried Unbound again recently, they have added a lot more to the game and there's more to do now. I played it for maybe a few days at launch and much more now that there's been so many updates.
Nothing but facts here. Wreckfest really is the only relatively new racing game which is really good. Just give me new Arcade-Racers like NFS Porsche - Prostreet, Dirt 2, Split Second, Flatout 2, Blur, Hydro Thunder, Star Wars Episode I Racer or even Hot Pursuit 2010. Pretty much all of them were extremely fun because they had beautiful designed tracks/worlds and a really good handling. That's pretty much all I need to have fun. I don't need and I also don't want a cringe-worthy story and/or overly social story-characters who are always talking/calling/commenting. I don't need player character poses, dances or all this nonsense either. I just want good racing games again and not some trendy, cringey RPG with driving gameplay.
I've been following a racing game in development, called Touge Attack, y'all should check it out, it's pretty bad ass I feel like it will be a fantastic addition to the genre
Again, I feel like all these racing games were so creative and different back then because of The Fast and Furious and how focused the franchise was on racing. Now that it’s not even what it used ti be racing games have just lost their identity. Shooters and racers are the same to me.
F1 should've kept the classic cars in the game, was quite fun blasting around silverstone in an old Ferrari whilst having a break from the my Team career
The anti-gravity game he is playing is BallisticNG. I found it a bit frustrated that he showed it a lot in the video but barely talks about it. IMO it's one of the best racing games around.
Other forms of media did help racing games in its prime time, early Fast and Furious, for example. When more movies, and general attention will be given to car culture, then the racing genre will get its renaissance.
27:17 That would be Most Wanted 2012, not as most people said hp 2010, but still.. 11 years ago (holy monkey i just realized now that i typed that in how long it's been.. I got that game basically at launch, just over half of my bloomin' lifetime ago!!!)
Imagine combination of games like Forza Horizon 5 (with huge car list), Assetto Corsa (put simulation aspect in open world racing games in terms of car handling and physics), BeamNG and car mechanic simulator in one big game. I know it seems impossible now. In the past we didn't think games would look that awesome as they look today. Technology will get there. I just hope i'm gonna be alive to witness that. I imagine that game to have it's own economy system (like EVE online). Slowed down progression. That way you can bond with one car instead of owning 50+ cars like in forza (no satisfaction, bored easily). You can have multiple cars but in the game is some kind of grinding system and it would be very hard to own multiple cars. Maybe later in game progression. Car mechanic shops own by players. Players can own part shops (engine parts, body kits, wheels, steering wheels etc...) You can also buy parts online and work on your own car in your garage. Maybe put purchasing mechanical tools for repairing or building cars. Customization has to be unprecedented (every detail possible). Music customization. (Like NFS Underground) RPG elements (like no pixel server in GTA 5). City doesn't have to be huge, rather packed with a lot of content. Car meets where you can get out of the car and exemine other people's car engines, body work and interiors. Not the mention a good story. I don't understand why racing games should not have great stories, i don't know, like GTA 5 or RDR2 just because it's a racing game. Put some „surviving“ elements like gas and car maintenance (oil change, car wash etc...) Implement some kind of gambling system. Let's say you wanna race with another person. Both of you can place a bet (amount). So you can race for money or car (pink slips). Implement social network system (like GTA 5 RP) for posting pictures of progress of your car when you working in your garage or for car meets. Build your network of people. Car clubs - You decide what are the terms for getting in your car club. There would be some kind of club wars to see witch club is the best in the city. That way you can build reputation (live online with other players). Put way more barn finds and junk jards where you can find some rare gems. Car detailing. Show contest, as well music, style and tuning contest. Each server can represent one continent with up to 150 players or more (3 servers - USA, Europe, Asia) In, for example, USA server you can se more muscle cars. In Europe more BMW's, Audi, Volvo etc. You can travel between servers and we need somehow blend that transition with some kind of animation. For example, if the server is full, AI worker won't let you pass the border. On the start of the game where player can't afford they own house yet, we provide public garages. Avatars must be fully customizable (clothes, accessories etc...) Houses can be customizable (like Hogwards Legacy) If players don't have enough money to race among each other, put some all time available races so players can grind money. Playes can own car wash house. Players can own towing car companies. Players can own delivery businesses (for car parts, tires, wheels etc...) Players can own taxi business. Players can own paint shops (store and workshop) All bussinesses can have social media page or internet page. Open communication all the time. Besides car meet places, put some restaurants where players can gather, eat and socialize (players can own those restaurants). Restaurants can be customizable to in some racing fashion.
Aside from racing game genre. Modern games / AAA games is pretty stale rn. Not just with creativity & innovation, even the graphics isn't that much on improvement. 2023 is an age for video games that are limited by the current tech & hardware.
the fundamental issue is the devs no longer have an understanding of car culture and what racing is hell look at the recent NFS games they aim at the kind the of people that will never race a car in their lives and try portray them as racing culture
I agree with him, the racing genre is becoming so boring that it's dying from within. not a single developer wants to take risks to make a game engaging, fun and rewarding. I can respect the devs pushing tech for more realism, but let's face it, that era is gone. it's time for something new and unique that sims, arcades and simcades can enjoy without having to be toxic or broken towards one another
My main gripe with need for speed , especially heat is the “exclusive” cars and Ferrari , why add cars that can basically not be customized what so ever other then wheels..it just doesn’t make any sense when they could replace those cars with other cars from Nissan or Volkswagen for example that CAN be played with and more customized giving the players more options.
As an Assetto corsa drifter & modder with 1200+ hours in it in the last 2 years alone on my new profile… the game is the best of a bad bunch in my opinion. It was ahead of its time… 6 years ago. But these days there just isn’t anything else to compete with it so it remains “the best”…
i swear whenever you do a video like this i sit nodding in agreement every time, however i feel most modern games suck now not just racing however racing is the easiest to see, most triple A titles suck, have no passion or love, battlefield and cod feel the same game over and over or worse (BF2042) gta v or saints row heartless, constant money grabs. i extremely rarely buy a full price game now or even want to try a new game because they only disappoint if not for the fact i know not to expect anything truly great anymore some say im to "fussy" however i know what a good game is and feel sorry for new people getting into gaming and not experiencing a truly great game.
Yeah nowadays racing game is another microtransaction bridge but I see there lack innovation and lack release just see how many fps game release in 1 year and racing games in 3 years Take innovation not too far just mix realistic model and arcade handling already good I'm not game developer but I just giving idea about simple innovation that maybe work
I feel like people don't give Beamng enough credit.. if you're a simcade or even a pure sim racer and haven't tried beam, you're missing out on a gold mine of fresh, fun and insanely innovative racing entertainment with a great community of players and modders as the cherry on top!
As a game it pretty much sucks tho, what makes it entertaining is the fact you can come up with any scenario you want with it to fill that void. Normally with racing game you'd think the devs would've done that for you already. As mentioned, BeamNG is more of a crash simulator than a driving game, let alone an actual racing game.
I remember before Tony hawk came out we used to exploit a bug I found in jet moto 1 on ps1 to do massive tricks. I often wonder if anyone else did the same.
The only part I disagreed with him was the music in Unbound, Blackbox era had more soul to them and better variety, but he appreciates the singular focus on music genre, which I can appreciate, I just wish they didn't choose hip hop which is more suitable for showing off and not the thrill of actually racing.
Honestly, i just want a game that has it's priorities straight Driver SF was SO bloody good, even if you drop the real life acting and just make the story text-based (literally make the story text) it would still be the sickest ass 2010s racing game due to the GREAT driving model, 150+ real life cars with AWESOME visual damage, very beautiful recreation of SF and a really SOLID unique system, that's like GTA+ without the onfoot playing And i can go on for hours on the older games having their own pace and needs being tuned to perfection!
24:27 - EXACTLY. Racing sims are popular because (most of time) they have great or at least serviceable driving models. Outside of exploits or physics glitches, you know how car will react to your actions and you can have fun playing around the limits of said car. Older arcade racing games understood it and you've had to push car to the limit of control to be fast. But stuff went wild during 8th gen of consoles. Arcade racing games focused ONLY on enhancing "game" aspect while ignoring fundamentals of driving models and car behaviour while sims focused only on handling (mostly due to lack of popularity and budgets but it shaped market for years to come). And now we have arcade racing games nobody wants to touch and simracing games that only keeps people passionate about driving BEFORE they approach racing games' genre.
Riptide gp renegade was a great game. I dont know how many of you played it. Really loved it. Still play it sometimes. I have for both pc & android. Its devoloped by Vector unit. Its a small company which is into kart racing beach buggy racing & riptide gp. New riptide havent come in few years. They have developed two more riptide gp games before that. Since its about racing i think that deserve a mention.
At this point it feels as if the best option is to just change to Roblox racing games. Games like the ION series cover the simulation scene and games like Vehicle Simulator or Full Throttle simulate a good arcade racer. Plus, its all free.
Playing Midnight Club LA on Xenia today! 60 FPS + Motion Blur off!

Alright that's nice!

27:15 nah bro thats literally nfs most wanted 2012,but everyone apparently hated it so in rivals we could not setup private lobby,we could not re-map the controller input, and a bunch more things.still even tho this shit show, everyone praised this game and loved it,and after that it has been a lot down hill
I'm pretty sure Most Wanted 2012 has the option to make custom Playlists/speedlists. To be fair though that was 11 years ago, so it's been awhile.
Great video, I watched it on your channel first but now I gotta support kuru so I’ll watch it again 😂
Your view was great. You hit it right at home with all your points
Nonono MW 2012 had private lobbies and custom speedlists too
They're not dead but boring.
@@ReiSyre62 True... I much rather see Split/Second 2 from Disney instead of another kart racing clone but oh well
they dont need to be taking risks just made games finished and enjoyable i hate forza's dirving all cars feels same and other racing games we play this games what the developers want us to play wr cant select our style of gaming or modification. because of some play style or modifications are broken.
@@phzitos_I mean... because of the way money is generated and everything in GTA Online combined with the obscenely high prices to bait Shark Card purchases it led to the lobbys having 4 types of players
1. Grinders: they have strategically found the fastest way to get money and they do that, you know like a job
2. Modders: Actually are having fun, mainly at the cost of others and accounts
3. Troll: Dude got an Orbital Cannon, the Oppressor Mk.2 and a Lazer P996 and he's not gonna hold back on you
4. Old Player Checking back in seeing the chaos, embracing it for a bit then leaving GTA for another year
My favourite casual racing game was Forza Horizon
granted it was an after school thing for me but just the freedom to explore, race or mod to your heart's content, the festival actually existed and looked quite good (esp. for 2012 on the Xbox)
The game just didn't want to bother you with stuff too much so you are free to play your casual arcade racer without all the constant hassle that it is with the constant wheelspins and everything now.
I love racing since I can’t afford to mantain a car for now and with wheel a I can race even not having a car. So I will forever love *simulators*
Although, studying abroad I don’t have my wheel, and I wanted hard to race.
Shame too since its been a quite a long time since their last attempt to bring Wangan Midnight and Initial D games in the home consoles too
@@raifurunanodesu9003 *Laughs at you while playing WMMT on the local arcades here*

And now, nobody asked the anime effects things in unbound but they added them!😡
@@nomanssouls1957 we found the meth addict
They did ask for cops lmao. Look at the review section of the Wikipedia article on Need for Speed Underground 2. One of the criticisms of the game was its lack of cops.
Also customisation was kinda already in the series as Need for Speed 4: High Stakes had performance upgrades and the ability to make changes to the setup of the cars like adjusting gear ratios, aerodynamics etc.
@@nomanssouls1957 When I think of "anime effects" I think of a game with cel shading like Auto Modellista, not NFS Unbound which has no cel shading.
@@MobiusGang Unbound cel shading is "fine" imo, but inconsistent. Why not set all everything cel shaded at this point?

THIS! 100% this!
I was gonna bring it up if I didn't see it, but at 37:44 when Raycevick says "Independence" it shows a clip of a racing game I've been seeing a lot of new about recently called Night-Runners. Everything about it looks so exciting and I really wanna try it out! It nails the PS2 era aesthetic that the developers are trying for and it'll be a new type of racing game that I haven't really played yet, something kinda like Wangan Midnight but as a play-at-home video game rather than an anime / manga / arcade cabinet.
as someone that loves racing games and fighting games, there sure are a lot of overlap between the two when it comes to keeping up with other games currently. feels like both these genres are getting left behind in terms of quality, content, online, etc.
i really can't stop loving either of these genres though, i grew up with both from the ps1, ps2 era. i wonder if these games should start dialing back on better graphics part and spending more time/budget on the content/gameplay ;-;
FGC got diversity.
We got SF for pro people
We got KoF for people who likes flashy stuff
We got Mahvel for people who love Chaos
We got Guilty Gear for stylist lover
We can't really compare both genre because the FG are well alive and had been for years know with Dragon Ball, latest seasons of SF5,KoF15 coming in, Guilty Gear.
Wow this game sucks. is the same game from Forza 3, but worse."
That's the experience of us racing game lovers nowadays.
SF6 and Tekken 8 are anything but...
He forgot the game that's very easily the best in its current state: TRACKMANIA 2020
It's not the base game, the devs, outstanding physics or sth like that that makes it great, but what they're doing is offering the perfect playground for the community and the community does tons of outstanding stuff ranging from variable driving styles, beatiful scenery, creative route mapping and all levels of difficulty to complete stupidity which results in more fun than I've had in all other racing games of recent years combined.
But the rigged thing they've ever done is subscription
@@K3ntucky123 10 bucks per year for standard access and 45 bucks for three years of club access is totally fine for a game that continuously gets updated with improvements and additional campaigns and blocks for mapping. If you really dive into the game you'll get houndreds to thousands of hours of great experiences and I think that's actually quite affordable. There's really nothing wrong with this type of monetization for such a game and it even let's you play the campaigns for free, so that you can first try it and see if you want to play more! :)
@@K3ntucky123 10 bucks a year for a very good game is not a rig. You have plenty of options to play it for free and if you want to contribute more into game it's not 20, 40 or 60 bucks paying once for perhaps 50-100 hours at the game at max, but multiple times more than that.

I have been doing that with racing games on my Steam Deck

NFS needs a long hard look at what made the series the most profit. For such a greedy company you think EA would be trying harder to appease the fanbases of the series that make it money, but apparently no? It needs to stop trying to invent the wheel each game and just focus on a polished, good and fun experience that plays into the identity of NFS. The core identity, which to me is NFSU-Carbon and if people disagree, that's fine but argue with the fact, those games sold the most and thus are the identity most know NFS as. Before or after doesn't mean much by comparison.
yea a game from 18 years ago (Most Wanted) shouldn't still be the series best seller
But it's exactly the fact they're reinventing the wheel for each game that makes the Black Box era so unique in terms of identity, even tho the core gameplay is largely the same. People can tell apart Underground, Most Wanted, Carbon, Prostreet, and others fairly well bcoz of that. They're getting some of that back with Heat and Unbound, which already look quite unique in the modern NFS era, but there's still a long way to go.

its so good to read what im preaching for years.
Same
F-Zero games and its cast of characters and the lore each of them has - was pretty similar to redline.
Only thing missing was the old school muscle cars.
To be honest, I don't think anyone has asked for realism in racing games. They were just fun and replayable, that's what we all enjoyed.
What I mean is that arcade racing was never meant to reach this level of furiosity. Other than that I do agree on that one.
@@theunusual_ yeah arcade racing true, it's not supposed to be realistic I agree, tho some realism here and there won't hurt, but it shouldn't be treated as a sim

Nostalgia wank
Yeah, that one is a fresh air to breath
I'd be real happy with a new RC de Go and Tamiya Mini 4WD game on consoles/handhelds as well
I want another TXR.
Not dying, but like most people already said,boring/plain
Last 3 racing games I enjoyed were Hot Wheels,GT7 and GRID Legends
Hot Wheels really puts you in that feeling of Trackmania style tracks with every car being unique
GT7 is more of a personal enjoyment. I know Sport mode is BUSTED beyond repair but I spent few hundred hours modifying and testing cars
GRID Legends suprised me a lot with the one thing: Nostalgia!
I'm glad people are liking GRID Legends, one of the best GRID's we've had since 2012
Grid Legends is a grind, but it's a super fun grind!
@@Sh4dowgale Exactly!
You know, if GT can't even do it right, I think it's time to go retro at this point.

"but rfactor 2" - at that moment I knew how bad things are about to get.
Hehe
i think companies need to take a step back in many ways and look at the past if they want a future. i still haven't seen anyone referring to how we are no longer free in any career mode, being dragged from one race to the next instead of picking the events we want when we want. gt3 and 4, fm3 and 4. holding our hands rewarding you for losing is the big thing now, there are no losers. instead of the get good attitude of for example midnight club 3 or any midnight club for that matter. a racing gamer only needs three things to be really happy, fun, handling, and a reasonable challenge. I'm an oldie so i started out on the first gran turismo and the first forza. up to the fourth on both. after that they lost their way and forgot the three basics that made them.
The thing about these types of vid are that most of them are just people missing their childhood but this seems really informative

(some of which are in development and a few which are Early Access)
Sure, most of what I list is arcade, but think about it.

Part of the issue I think is technology is advancing faster than ever, and that doesn't let devs learn the more and more advanced tools
A rally game where you play crossing different biomes and settings? Motorstorm Pacific rift big brother
The racing game I’ve played most over the last 4 years has been modded assetto corsa in a literal beer league with friends
I've been following a racing game in development, called Touge Attack, y'all should check it out, it's pretty bad ass I feel like it will be a fantastic addition to the genre
In regards to arcade race games, shout out to Zeepkist, if you're not too worried about fancypants graphics that game is a surprisingly good one
Again, I feel like all these racing games were so creative and different back then because of The Fast and Furious and how focused the franchise was on racing. Now that it’s not even what it used ti be racing games have just lost their identity. Shooters and racers are the same to me.
F1 should've kept the classic cars in the game, was quite fun blasting around silverstone in an old Ferrari whilst having a break from the my Team career
that was a cool use of a Pink Floyd - Money intro 13:52
I feel like as a game, Need for Madness never got the flowers it deserved
The anti-gravity game he is playing is BallisticNG. I found it a bit frustrated that he showed it a lot in the video but barely talks about it. IMO it's one of the best racing games around.
Ah yes, the era of committee made games
Other forms of media did help racing games in its prime time, early Fast and Furious, for example. When more movies, and general attention will be given to car culture, then the racing genre will get its renaissance.
Car culture doesn't exist anymore. Modern cars are dull and boring with no appeal at all outside transporting yourself from A to B.
The answer is, YES.
Apart from Assetto Corsa (2014) and its huge community.
i really wish split second and blur had a remaster or just SOMETHING on the newer consoles:(
27:17
That would be Most Wanted 2012, not as most people said hp 2010, but still.. 11 years ago
(holy monkey i just realized now that i typed that in how long it's been..
Players can own part shops (engine parts, body kits, wheels, steering wheels etc...)
You can also buy parts online and work on your own car in your garage.
Maybe put purchasing mechanical tools for repairing or building cars.
Customization has to be unprecedented (every detail possible).
Music customization. (Like NFS Underground)
RPG elements (like no pixel server in GTA 5).
Put some „surviving“ elements like gas and car maintenance (oil change, car wash etc...)
Implement some kind of gambling system.
Each server can represent one continent with up to 150 players or more (3 servers - USA, Europe, Asia)
In, for example, USA server you can se more muscle cars. In Europe more BMW's, Audi, Volvo etc.
You can travel between servers and we need somehow blend that transition with some kind of animation. For example, if the server is full, AI worker won't let you pass the border.
On the start of the game where player can't afford they own house yet, we provide public garages.
Avatars must be fully customizable (clothes, accessories etc...)
Houses can be customizable (like Hogwards Legacy)
If players don't have enough money to race among each other, put some all time available races so players can grind money.
Playes can own car wash house.
Players can own towing car companies.
Players can own delivery businesses (for car parts, tires, wheels etc...)
Players can own taxi business.
Players can own paint shops (store and workshop)
All bussinesses can have social media page or internet page.
Open communication all the time.
Besides car meet places, put some restaurants where players can gather, eat and socialize (players can own those restaurants). Restaurants can be customizable to in some racing fashion.
37:27 Ah yes, my favourite motorsport: dinosaurs!
Aside from racing game genre. Modern games / AAA games is pretty stale rn. Not just with creativity & innovation, even the graphics isn't that much on improvement. 2023 is an age for video games that are limited by the current tech & hardware.
Limited ONLY by people.
AAA games I can agree with, but all modern games in general? I have to disagree with them being stale. There's always great games coming out
Current tech and hardware barely have any limitations compared to a decade ago
the fundamental issue is the devs no longer have an understanding of car culture and what racing is hell look at the recent NFS games they aim at the kind the of people that will never race a car in their lives and try portray them as racing culture
I agree with him, the racing genre is becoming so boring that it's dying from within. not a single developer wants to take risks to make a game engaging, fun and rewarding. I can respect the devs pushing tech for more realism, but let's face it, that era is gone. it's time for something new and unique that sims, arcades and simcades can enjoy without having to be toxic or broken towards one another
driver san fran is by far one of my fave racers next to the norm
There are so many points in this video that i agree with. Couldn't have said it better myself.
i swear whenever you do a video like this i sit nodding in agreement every time, however i feel most modern games suck now not just racing however racing is the easiest to see, most triple A titles suck, have no passion or love, battlefield and cod feel the same game over and over or worse (BF2042) gta v or saints row heartless, constant money grabs. i extremely rarely buy a full price game now or even want to try a new game because they only disappoint if not for the fact i know not to expect anything truly great anymore some say im to "fussy" however i know what a good game is and feel sorry for new people getting into gaming and not experiencing a truly great game.
Yeah nowadays racing game is another microtransaction bridge but I see there lack innovation and lack release just see how many fps game release in 1 year and racing games in 3 years
Take innovation not too far just mix realistic model and arcade handling already good
I'm not game developer but I just giving idea about simple innovation that maybe work
The worst copium is by large racing content creators (excluding Kuru). They don't have the balls to say that all racing games suck ass now.
No more review copy/codes for you.
bro you literally play genshin impact you have no opinion on what games suck
@@lmao-ev6nzah yes, and your opinion does on a game you know nothing about right? Moron.
Ok - I want a T-Rex model focused racing game!!! lmao - amazing react video - Love Raycevick's channel so much.
Trackmania is slowly breaking through into the esports big leagues
Im playng Daily PGotham 3 & 4 so.. they Never get Old, the driving phisics Are amazing!!
The only part I disagreed with him was the music in Unbound, Blackbox era had more soul to them and better variety, but he appreciates the singular focus on music genre, which I can appreciate, I just wish they didn't choose hip hop which is more suitable for showing off and not the thrill of actually racing.
Kuru, you haven't played Art of Rally? I'm working on my third playthrough of this beautiful, fun and challenging game.
Everytime I see you playing MW05, or posting a video on it, it reminds me of how stagnate it has gotten.
MW05 is booooring
@@Einfach_Ghetto_TV It has great replayability idk what you're talking about
Maan how many damn crew games do we have to wait through to get a driver game
Honestly, i just want a game that has it's priorities straight
Driver SF was SO bloody good, even if you drop the real life acting and just make the story text-based (literally make the story text) it would still be the sickest ass 2010s racing game due to the GREAT driving model, 150+ real life cars with AWESOME visual damage, very beautiful recreation of SF and a really SOLID unique system, that's like GTA+ without the onfoot playing
And i can go on for hours on the older games having their own pace and needs being tuned to perfection!
Prostreet probably was my last favorite online nfs but most favorite was nfsu2 even though i mostly did drag races. I do miss blur though
PS4 emulators are in development, others scream Bloodborne but I hope to play whats left of DriveClub one day :)
At this point it feels as if the best option is to just change to Roblox racing games. Games like the ION series cover the simulation scene and games like Vehicle Simulator or Full Throttle simulate a good arcade racer. Plus, its all free.
