Do you even play taekwondo , so t judge things without actually seeing it yourself , well I can't disagree with the part that taekwondo nowdays is about gaining the point
I think the worst thing to happen to the sport was electronic scoring. Im saying this but its a catch 22. There was alot of complaints about incompetent scoring at the time (even cheating or intentionally not scoring points) back in the day. So the electronic scoring system solved a problem, but created another in taking away the incentive for raw aggression. You dont need to hit your opponent hard anymore, just tapping hard enough to register will do. Shock is not a thing anymore, the sport is "cleaner" I suppose, but the solution to end scoring controversy came at a (I believe) heavy cost. Mainstream Taekwondo competion has now moved even further away from realistic combat I think. To be honest, I think the goal of the WTF was always to be a better Olympic sport. Authenticity likely fell to the very bottom of priorities for the WTF's decision authorities somewhere in the early to mid 2010s.
This is half true and half false. Training regimen stays the same most of the techniques on the other hand changed to comply with this format but nonethless kicks are still fast and strong, what changed is the explosive and bombarded attacks. Tho sparring outside of competition still hurts and exhausting due to the lack of electronic counting(in my experience).
@@USSSoyuz @craig gantt about not hitting hard anymore, there are still alot of practitioners that practice new school that packs quite the kick. Especially those who experience old and new school like myself. Yes, raw aggression is gone but (in some occassion) you can till see power and speed. @@me...2381 I'll have to respectfully disagree again, the front leg kicks are not designed for power, theres so little of the body that turns into them. They were always desigend to be checks, quick taps to either score or let your opponent know you're there and you see what they're doing. I've trained with the absolute best everytime Ive returned to TKD, the difference in objective and style must be obvious, even to the casual observer. Front leg is closer to the target that’s why most players prefer their front leg. Especially if you’re a tall guy, all you have to do is push the smaller guy and open him for a power shot
