For 11 mill I love this move . I’m not saying cp3 puts the spurs in the wcf but it is a huge injection of veteran leadership to help this very young team and he’s a master at getting bigs involved .

I don't think it's about winning this year. This move is about providing mentorship to young players as we prepare to shift from a tanking team to a winning team.
Also love this for Devin Vassell, can't understate CP3's impact on SGA and his development as a facilitator. Devin could really become a star if he's given 28% usage with more playmaking opportunities and better defense in the future
for what its worth, Chris Paul still rated in the 80th percentile league wide defensively last year, hes still a very capable defender even if hes not the 8x all Defense 1st guy he used to be and should be a great mentor on that end for our guys as well, not just offensively.
@@johnhefter3815 tell that to SGA who actively credits CP3s time in OKC for his growth as a facilitator and player, Coaches only have so many time outs and opportunities to address things in a game, Chris can talk guys through plays, direct them and make adjustments on the fly while still creating offense for Vic, Jeremy and Devin for the whole game. not to mention its a different vibe and impact to be taught and shown something by a current player, hall of famer and top PG of all time compared to a coach during practice, Vets and mentors on court are just as important to a players development as good coaching is, to say anything to the country is factually incorrect. also don't really care what people think, Castle isn't a starting PG this year, he needs time to develop and CP gives him a mentor, teacher and buffer for him to develop and learn those skills if hes going to eventually be a PG in the NBA, no one else is worthy of that starting spot long term on the roster yet anyway.
You're right he's one of the best undersized PG (6'1 + 6'4 wingspan) on D CraftedDPM 0.8 (75%) / DDARKO 0.7 / DDRIP 1.3 / DBPM 1.2 He's still one of the best disruptor as a PG: Deflections 2.7 (76%)
I would not be surprised if the Spurs are planning to hire CP3 as an assistant coach after. I always thought he would go into coaching after he retires
Glad to see we will be playing actual point guards this year in Paul and Jones. Thankfully not sochan or castle. Win. Win. Castle maybe in 3 years will be ready, or prolly not.
i dont see pop starting the rookie early but a lot like uconn he could earn a starting spot by the end of the year. i think the cp3 move and the draft day trade shows the spurs wanting to be competitive now. While developing another big guard that can potentially be like dejonte .murray and helps our backcourt. which isnt great defensively. and wemby has a handle but its not tight enough to make him a primary ballhandler so we need as many guys that can get him and us easy looks cause we already got bucket getters on the wings.
My dream scenario would be for USA and France to go head-to-head in the gold medal game at the Olympics and regardless of outcome, Wemby sets up even greater expectations for us and the hype train keep going. Chris Paul is going to be a great mentor for Tre Jones, Stephon Castle and the whole team.
I just hope this ends the Trae Young to Spurs rumors once and for all. I can't deal with how much the media wants that mediocre player to come mooch off Wemby
That “mediocre” player averaged 25ppg and just shy of 11 assists last season. I’m not even a Tre young fan, but you guys sound goofy talking about one of the best guards in the league like he’s a scrub. We get lucky in one draft and had the privilege of drafting a generational talent and now bougie bandwagon fans think top talent showing interest in coming here for the first time since Lamarcus is beneath us.
@dillamadukes21 I totally see your point, but I still feel like Young is not a good fit at all for us and has a very polarized skill set. My first memories of the Spurs were watching them beat the Knicks in '99, and then lose to the Lakers a bunch of playoffs after that. Then Tony and Manu came around and provided us the multidimensional players needed to support our crazy good offensive and defensive player in Duncan and we became totally dominate. My worry is that Young is unable to provide that same versatility to support our superstar, especially since he needs the ball to offer maximum value. Combine that with a huge salary that, IMO, overpays Young, and I do not want to see that pairing. Young is certainly not mediocre as a player, but he is mediocre as a star on the Spurs in my eyes and would definitely limit Wemby's ability to turn into a point center
Chris Paul shot 44% from 3 during his Suns playoff run to the Finals. They're NEVER going to sag off of him the way they do any of the other guards on the Spurs roster. Not only that, people keep talking about Paul's lobs to Wemby -- what about his lobs to Sochan? I have a feeling he's really going to unlock Sochan's game the way he made Kuminga look good.
Champagnie? Castle is starting just not at PG. He will still have the same role overall, but he will start slower and play backup PG some most likely. But he can guard SF too, so CP3/Castle/Devin/Sochan/Wemby is the most likely starting five. Also this is a 1 year deal. The Spurs are still not in win now mode, this is a move to help Castle learn how to be a PG from one of the greats at the position. It also will help Wemby read the game more in the NBA

Chris Paul, 39 years old, wth. not sure its a good idea. He will help for sure, but he can make all season; But it means something you did not tell : trae young wont comme to spurs.
How does this affect Tre Jones on the roster? Wesley and Branham now have a chance to develop under CP3 and one could take over. This would give them a cheaper backup PG than Tre and makes the latter available for trade. Bro...Pop literally called him to outline his role before signing. Plus they could still trade him at the deadline to a contender, if someone even wants him.
39 year old CP is 1 year fix/mentor/leader. Pop talked with him personally on the matter so Spurs did their homework. And there were multiple teams that wanted him.
This move isn’t about winning now. They’re not winning anything anytime soon. It’s about learning how to win and developing a winning culture among the core players. We know the Spurs are a winning franchise but if the players don’t know how, it doesn’t mean anything. Great move.

I think we can all agree that Chris Paul is one of the best mentors a young point guard could have, and I think he could be very benefitial not only for Castle but for Juan Núñez as well. I personally would bring him instead of letting him play in spain for next season and let him benefit from CP3. That brings the problem of minutes splitting, if you have CP3, Castle, Tre Jones and Juan Núñez at the point guard position, you cant guarantee minutes for everybody so, as much as I like him, I think that we should look for a trade for Tre as he most likely wont be able to develop into a championship caliber starting point guard and that would mean more minutes to the other point guards.
He needs at least 1-2 more years over there. Manu came over at 25yo let's not forget. No need to rush Nunez. We gotta see how Wesley/Branham/Cissoko end up next season before even thinking about Nunez.

Pop and Brian are genius!!!!!!
now get lonnie walker
ONLY LOSER WOULD WANT LONIE WALKER ...
This move isn’t about winning now. They’re not winning anything anytime soon. It’s about learning how to win and developing a winning culture among the core players. We know the Spurs are a winning franchise but if the players don’t know how, it doesn’t mean anything. Great move.
We need a bruiser PF asap

I hate this so much…even for just a year this feels so stupid 😂 why do we want this old man trying to hoop with our guys??
Start Chris Paul? Nah. Cmon now.
Trade KJ for KD
Sped
What about Juan Nunez?? We need to sign him and trade trae away.
He needs at least 1-2 more years over there. Manu came over at 25yo let's not forget. No need to rush Nunez. We gotta see how Wesley/Branham/Cissoko end up next season before even thinking about Nunez.
Depending on how he fits with the culture and the city, I would love to see cp3 be mentored for a possible future coaching role
