RARE MILEAGE METRA SPECIAL Rochelle-Dixon-Nelson-Sterling 2003 on ex-C&NW! From inside train+runbys
In 2003 the city of Rochelle, Illinois celebrated its sesquicentennial (1853-2003) and held a town-wide event over a weekend and included were excursions on the former C&NW (now Union Pacific) mainline courtesy of a Metra trainset.
Trips ran west to Sterling and the trainset parked east at Elburn overnight for the weekend.
Here, is a 6 minute video from inside the train on a WB and later that day or the next, as seen from trackside near the former depot location at Dixon.
I've added captions to identify scenes.
Not as viewer-friendly as alot would prefer, but I wanted my kids to have a window seat as they rode through their hometown of Dixon, IL.
This trip included the use of handicapped access facilities for my late son Shay who suffered from Cerebral Palsy and was confined to a wheelchair.
I'm confounded that I didn't have the camcorder running as we passed the diamonds, but we do see the Dixon depot location, our old farm near Woodland Shores (the spot where I shot SO MUCH other CNW footage in the late 80's), Nelson, Rock River, Waterworks Curve (almost hidden by a passing TOFC on the EB track), and coming into Sterling.
