Mousehold heath has featured so prominently in the history of Norwich. Although they might not be within this channel's remit there are a lot of former WW2 airfields within a few miles of Norwich. Thanks for uploading this video.

I was hooked as soon as I heard the propeller sound at the beginning! Loved the old Mousehold Heath Airport photos. A very interesting story about Douglas Bader's artificial leg being delivered to him by the crew flying out of Norwich. I learnt so much from your video - thank you!
Grew up in St,Faiths and was told about the old Cromer road before the airport. Fascinating to find out about the section outside Tesco (formerly the Firs pub)!
Absolutely fascinating John, thanks for sharing. I travel around the outskirts of the airport a great deal, sharing aircraft videos and slideshows on my channel, but I couldn't get my bearings on the barracks photo. I knew a little about the airfield at Mousehold but this was an eye opener.

Battle of Britain flight often flew in Norwich airport in the early 70's when based at RAF Coltishall, when winds prevented us flying into Coltishall. Still think of those days when we fly out on Holiday.
Thanks for another interesting video. My family and I travelled via Norwich Airport in the mid 70s. We flew from Shipdham to Norwich and then on to The Channel Islands. The terminal then was a series of Nissan huts extended to form a larger building.
Fascinating. I knew that the current heartsease schools playing field was an airfield, and that there was a railway but not the exact location so thanks for that info. Interestingly, the land opposite the school playing field on heartsease lane was a POW camp.
Interesting as always. It’s always my airport of choice when flying to and from Brazil or Asia for work thanks to the KLM link. KLM I think traces it routes from there back to Air U.K. and then before that Air Anglia.

I remember (as a very small boy) going to the very last Open Day at RAF Horsham St Faith with my Mum when we lived nearby in Hellesdon - I imagine it must have been the early to mid 60's. I seem to remember that Meteors flew out of there whilst Lightnings were based at RAF Coltishall - I stand to be corrected by any aviation buffs!!
I remember going up to the airport as a youngster in the early 80s and going into the then terminal building (I think it was just a couple of portakabins essentially), and also recall seeing an airship taking off around the same sort of time!
Douglas Bader used to drink in the Rising Sun at Coltishall during the war. I’ve heard stories of him tapping his pipe on his artificial leg to the amusement of those in there
It's beyond me why the memorial plaque you illustrate is so badly sited on an earth bank facing away from the road and not more prominently displayed. Almost an insult to the men who died in the crash that it commemorates.

In the 1970's, Laurence, Scott, and Electromotors were still using 9, 10, 11, 12, and 15 Hangars at Salhouse Road Estate.

Apparently, the RAF didn't trust the German offer ref. Bader's replacement leg, so it was dropped during an air raid nearby - !
