Tried the goat lure a couple weeks ago, And I was completely amazed. I have never caught so many red drum in my life. Truely a great lure. Treble hooks could be stronger ,one red was so big in bent the hook straight and got away
Yeah currently we’re using BKK Fang hooks. Next batch will have beefier BKKs

Fished the tournament too. Found some stud flounder but couldn’t match them with redfish or speck. Maybe next year. Your videos got me to join the club and I’ve been hooked since. Congrats on the red brother

I have an Outback that I love but I do also love my VanHunks Pro Angler...probably even more as it is more stable. Each have their benefits, but the drive on the Hobie is so complex...so many things can go wrong. So much easier going with the tried and true pedal drives.

Unfortunately I leaned the same lesson you did, the hard way. With nothing (hobies especially) not being bulletproof, plan your maintenance or your hobie will plan it for you. I have a hobie PA and issue 1 was the drive. Same thing as yours. It twisted and bent. Second issue was the hull cracked from stress as I used it 365 in the weather. After hobie pretty much told me to GFMS and wait months (18 to be exact) they only had XR Hulls available. Mine was an Ike. So after I fixed and reinforced the cracks myself, then my steering went. After waiting on parts, waiting on warranty, AFTER SPENDING $4600, I HAD TO BUY ANOTHER HOBIE TO FIX MY HOBIE. ended up finding a “Grave yard” hobie and it’s been the community parts kayak. I took the hull, steering, drive, and front hatch lid. Once it was fixed, I sold it and got a native for big water like lakes. For rivers I just bought a Shoalie and I couldn’t be happier.
Now I inspect all my fishing gear and I PMCS my rods, reels, and yak.
I’m hearing a ton of the same on the PA Ike editions. Crazy!

How are those Hammerhead drives holding up with heavy use? As good as Hobie?? Mine works well but I did need to blue threadlock every bolt/screw on it as they were backing out. The seat as well.. Still love the hammerhead

Curious how you like the Lynx? I have had mine for about 2 yrs and love it. I've even had it in 24 knots winds, 4 ft seas and return fishing trip with the hobie sail clocking 9 knots, freaking blast!

Great video and congrats on the red and flounder! Is it possible you’re so shallow in those marshes the drive is hitting bottom and when it kicks up, it’s bending and twisting?
Thanks! Yeah I’m pretty shallow but that’s not what’s going on. The needle bearings are wearing down which creates a gap which then causes the called to pull on it creating a pinch point which is what happened here.

Disappointing that the Hobie drive puked..I have a 2015 Outback with an MD180 that I will keep forever because its a tank, However it seems the newer Hobies are garbage..I remember you had tons of trouble with your 360 drives too.
Yeah man the hobies from 2016 and prior never had any issues. Not sure what’s causing all the issues but its unacceptable from a 4k kayak

I’d like to know what makes you think that I don’t service my drive, that’s a pretty bold assumption. Also my dealer is swamped with warranties constantly from Hobie with the same exact issue. I follow the maintenance recommendations Hobie puts out on these drives. If that’s not enough then I think Hobie needs to revise their maintenance recs
I won't do the argument thing. My opinion stands on what I see on the vid. No way that just "happens" in a well maintained drive either. However, I'll believe what you say. I do love your videos and I like yhe baits you sel
I've had 3 hobies in a row over ten years and never had a problem and you can take THAT to the bank, brutha. Don't knock'm if your can't take care of them. Rule of thumb, check your equipment before going out on a big tourney. Can't give you a like on this video.
he's not talking about a family member of yours but his opinion on a peice of equipment, so quit getting so butt hurt there bud. I own a hobie and think it's decent but not really worth what I paid for it. Also, things break sometimes even if you check them regularly...how it is.
lol don’t really care if you like it or not. I’m not the only one with these issues. There’s few dealers here on the gulf coast that aren’t swamped with Hobie warranties right now.
