Loathe last album please!!! First "song" could be an intro for the secong one, agressive evolution. For my it's a better child of Meshuggah and Deftones than Car bomb. You will shock your mind and everybody would you to react to the Loathe album, believe me. It's one of the best metal albums of the last year for many people :D
The craziest things about this band is that they don’t play to a click track live, and the drummer rehearses facing away from the band so he gets no visual cues and live they’re just as tight as this
Holy shit, Im a major fan of their last 2 albums (somehow havent warmed up to the first two yet), and to find That out Is truly amazing, and I mean that about everyone except for the drummer, because, as a drummer myself, I have known of him as a fucking God ever since I first heard them, so to just see Another proof of what I already knew as a fact is not As mindblowing, but its Still Cool, and in No lesser way. Car Bomb as a unit of musicians are Truly breaking new ground as Actual Artists (and not just some wannabees who somehow Sound like their influences without Any of the greatness due to not understanding the Actual reasons of its existence), due to previously actually Experimenting with their influences, and Not just the ones associated with the genre they wanted to play. Car Bomb is the proof that there Is great music out there, but that you just have to seek it on your own.
I wouldn't say anything of Meta is "radio friendly". Mordial is more easy listen and its song HeLa is the most friendly song they've made imo Edit: actually no, Gratitude is Meta's radio friendly song xD
When me and my girlfriend had just met, I asked if she wanted to go to a concert with me. That concert was Animals as Leaders supported by Car Bomb. She didn't run away then, so i knew she was a keeper!
I also want to see Greg's pedalboard so bad. When he did the Fortin demo all the tape was covering his stuff. That man literally is wizard when it comes to all his expression pedal use and perfection of it.
With Car Bomb, you can definitely tell the Meshuggah influence (especially from the instrumentation) but with their pitch shifting and utter time-fuckery, they're definitely their own beast. Some songs just gradually slow down or speed up, others continuously pitch up or down, pretty out there but pretty cool. Also pew pew noises. And on a dimly lit stage, their vocalist looks like powerlifting guru Dave Tate, which confused me a hell of a lot when I first saw them.
Definitely hear Meshuggah, Converge and a sprinkling of Deftones with Car Bomb, but the hardcore elements make them feel more chaotic than Meshuggah with a similar level of mastery with their instruments and vocals.
They are like the polar opposite of Meshuggah with how they compose. Meshuggah generally takes an odd length phrase and imposes it over a regular 4/4 groove. CB tries to use the concept of 4/4 and impose it over odd length phrases, like 5,7,9, etc
@@guitaristssuck8979 it usually isnt bpm changing, although they do use that sometimes. Usually they will play a section and the drummer will accent, we’ll say, every 4th note. Then they will play it again but the drummer will accent every 5th note. This spaces out the beat or what we tap our foot to by one additional note, which causes the perception of it slowing down but they are technically in the same tempo. There’s a video on UA-cam of a drummer playing “bleed” normally which accents every 4th quarter note. Then switches to every 3rd note and then every 5th note. It messes with the listeners understanding of what the tempo is but it actually stays the same. I highly recommend checking it out
Never heard these guys before, I like it. *Edit* Listened to Gratitude per the comments here and I agree of doing that next. As far as the balance between the 2 influences it's the opposite of this song. This was mostly Messhuggah with traces of Deftones, Gratitude will be mostly Deftones with hints of Messhuggah.
Listening to Car Bomb and not freaking out, digging Meshuggah lately... what a distance to become a metalhead you have covered. Keep it up, it's fun to watch you on this journey :)
The intro riff that recurs throughout the song is metric modulation and he modulates up incrementally having one less 16th note between the where the cymbals hit (and corresponding snare hit).
Hell yeah! Car Bomb play with time like few other bands manage to. Don't be worried about not being able to headbang to these guys on a first listen, no one can XD!!!! Would recommend their track "Sets" next. It's fantastic. If you do get into the band, it's worth checking out some Elliot Hoffman live drum cams, the fact that he can play this shit live like it's nothing, is insane.
I absolutely hated the first car bomb song that I heard, but this one kicks ass. I hear the Meshuggah on acid, but I hear just a little bit of Gojira and what sounds like an improved Dillinger escape plan. I like the acid reference. If you would like to hear car bomb on acid, try Tallah-No one should read this

Saw Car Bomb open for Periphery and Animals as Leaders in 2016. Had never heard of them and was blown away by how tight they were live. Easily the heaviest band I've ever heard live.
Definitely gotta check out "graditude" to get your feet wet. that riff that is "speeding up" is insane. metric modulation my dude. The guitar actually isn't speeding up at all, just the drums are changing on what notes the accents are played on.
Loved the reaction! I think you'll love Car Bomb more and more as you embrace the spontaneity of their compositions. They're really something else the more you delve into their sound. As for the temporary set-up, it looks good! I like the ominous view behind the chair. Yesss Carbomb! Maybe do Scattered Sprites next, that one's a tiny bit less chaotic then some of their other tracks. Or just go full on with Dissect Yourself
Thank you for doing this one with an open mind! Please, please, please don’t write these guys off after a single song; they are one of the most underrated and unsung bands in metal. If you want a little more of the Deftones vibe try Gratitude or Vague Skies. That second track is my favorite track to come out in the last 2-3 years. It’s crazy heavy, hooky, melodic, and riff-driven at the same time. You’ll dig it.
Secrets Within for the nastiest and most headbang inducing outro Infinite Sun for pure sick riffage Scattered Sprites for the craziness Dissect Yourself for the pew pew pew
It's more like a combo of Meshuggah & Dillinger Escape Plan with the blastier beats. Do the first few tracks off Meta, or Dissect Yourself off of Mordial. Elliot Hoffman is definitely around the level of Tomas Haake with his polyrythms. Fucking GOD TIER. He is insane. The odd time signatures are changing all the time.
