Bad taste in my mouth when it comes to Columbia lol. They tried to put Eldridge Johnson out of business. Eldridge won the court battles and named his company Victor, being he was victorious!! lol. In all seriousness, I did hear the Viva-Tonals are nice. Never heard one in person!
I have a '27 EIGHT-THIRTY Credenza with a retrofitted brass soundbox. I believe Victor changed to cheap potmetal due to economics rather than debatable acoustic improvement. They did the same thing earlier when introducing the brass No. 4 which soon changed to potmetal No. 4A. And yes the brass soundboxes last indefinitely.
What a beauty!
Wonderful instrument. It sounds superb. I have loved my Sept 1925 Credenza #2531 since I purchased it from the original owner in 1976.
The Credenza model that I owned was electric with record changer and in perfect working order. I miss it...had to sell...😢
Never too late to find another! They are out there!
Mines the 1927 electric motor model still going strong after 97 years!
Keep on spinnin!!
@@ThePhonographStop you bet your sweet bippy I will
Gorgeous machine!! What a treat! Thanks so much! 😄❤
Thank you! This one was really my first restoration when it comes to cabinetry!
Thank you for the tour!!
A beautiful look back at life before the great depression. Love the cushioned lid props.
Yeah I had to take them apart to restore them to functionality! Adds a bit of elegance with the lid closing!
The Columbia Viva Tonal is not too bad either... a friend of mine owns one. Beautiful reproduction from either Credenza or Viva Tonal...😊

Every so often, Acoustic Edison will post on YT his Viva-Tonal playing 78s. You may be surprised.

Recorded on January 31, 1930.
Does it sound better than the hmv 163?
Never heard a 163 in person. They must sound great with their metal horn but heavy!!
