  • Kayak fishing in Yankeetown, Florida. Don and I go out in our Feelfree Lure 13.5 and his Vibe Sea Ghost 130 and catch some big Red drum, a Spanish mackerel, stingray, catfish, ladyfish, Mother in law fish and Jack crevalle.

    How have you got your Lowrance set up

      I have it installed on the sonar pod. It is a stand alone unit that I just drop in and take out. It's very convenient .

    I go fishing in Yankeetown florida all the time, we go out t o marker 31 and catch up 2 almost 200 fish, they are all whiting, sand trout, and Spanish maceral, plus a couple of black sea bass, plus a couple annoying catfish

      Awesome, I hope to get out further this year. I've been covering around 7 miles average per trip lately and I hope to work up to 10.

    i have a feelfree lure 11.5 and it will not drift in a straight line. any suggestions? have u had this problem when trying to fish along the mangroves? i see you have a rudder. does ur kayak drift in a straight line?

      @KayakChris  8 років тому +1

      +Salty Fins Yes! you need a rudder. There is a huge difference in performance with a rudder. 2 weeks ago we drifted for hours fishing and I could control where my kayak pointed just by adjusting the rudder. Also when paddling the rudder keeps it straight and that means more energy from each stroke propels the kayak forward. I go faster with less effort which is a big plus. I average 2.8 - 3.1 mph in my lure 13.5. That's pretty good.

      +Walt G Nope, still have the Talon. Love the Lure 13.5. I will be using the Talon to take out friends from now on. :-)

    Nice Fishing man! got a buddy who is probably gonna pick up a Sea Ghost. Seems to be a nice little boat. I need something bigger, so I'm going with a Jackson Big Tuna

      Very nice! Sea Ghost is a great boat for the money, The big tuna looks like a great boat, let me know how it works out for you. Are you investing in a rudder? Having a rudder on my Lure 13.5 has made a huge difference in the performance.

      I am going rudderless to see how it does first. I stand most of the time so I don't see myself using it that often

    I'm looking at both of these kayaks. What would you say are there comparative strengths and weaknesses?

      Edit, I originally thought you commented on a different video lol, The Lure is heavy and somewhat slow for some but it's a very stable fishing platform. I always feel safe in my Lure. I am a big guy and have no problem moving my lure on the water. I typically get 3.2 MPH paddling on still water and around 2.8 out in the Gulf. Don likes his Vibe although he has replaced this one with the newer model. It seems to be reliable, stable and a good buy for the money (if you can find one in stock somewhere). It's not fair to compare the 2 kayaks as the Lure is in a separate class, well over the Vibe with a reputable company that is constantly upgrading and developing its products. Vibe has made good improvements as well but is still more of an introductory kayak. The parts and components on the vibe aren't as high quality and the seat isn't as comfortable. The FeelFree gravity seat is fantastic, I can't say enough about it. Feel free just announced new models for this coming year that look awesome. They will be featured at iCast next week and available in September I believe. If you want a reliable kayak, both are safe purchases, you really can't go wrong. If you are serious about kayak fishing you may want to spend the extra money now instead of wanting to upgrade in a year and spending the money twice. I've had my Lure since this video aired and it still looks and works as it did back then. I have never had to repair it and I use it hard every week (going on 2 years soon). I hope this helps.

      +SmokinJoe JT Love it! I actually feel like this kayak takes care of me on the water. I've had it in some pretty knarly weather and it just keeps on keepin' on.

    Great video! I'm trying to decide on a new yak....Iv'e narrowed my choices to Lure 13.5, Sea Ghost 13.5, or an Eddy Gear Stingray xl. How does your Lure keep up with the Vibe speed wise?

    • @KayakChris
      @KayakChris  8 років тому +1

      +bunky6765 The Lure 13.5 isn't as fast as the Sea Ghost pictured in this video. You should note that the Sea Ghost just changed its entire design. Check out their website. The new ghost has a raised seat and better rudder system like the Lure. It is still 33 inches wide and even with the new features, 20 lbs lighter than the lure but I'm betting they are more comparable as far as speed than before. I usually run at about 2.8 mph in my lure in decent conditions. Thanks for watching and asking questions!

      +Alisha Hi Alisha, thank you for the information. I always appreciate people sharing their knowledge on my videos. I researched the spotty mackerel and they are found around Queensland Australia. They do in fact resemble our spanish mackerel and I can understand the confusion. Here is a great guide to our spanish mackerel, how to identify etc. Thank you for watching! www.fishingdestinguide.com/FISH-SPANISHMACKEREL.html

      Don't get confused Chris, you can see the bar strips from top to belly and it is also known as narrow bar mackerel.

      +Gimio Chin I'm saying this in a friendly way. It's hard to tell writing text sometimes. I do not think you understand where I am located . The spotted as someone previously remarked lives around Australia and the narrow-barred Spanish mackerel (Scomberomorus commerson) which I assume you are referring to is a mackerel of the Scombridae family found in a wide-ranging area centering in Southeast Asia, but as far west as the east coast of Africa and from the Middle East and along the northern coastal areas of the Indian Ocean, and as far east as the South West Pacific Ocean. I am in Florida. Here I am positive without a doubt that I caught what is called a Spanish Mackerel. (Not from Spain of course). Here is a link that can explain it better than I can:
      en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantic_Spanish_mackerel
      I do appreciate your observation and welcome any chance to learn new fish species whenever I can. Thank you sincerely.

      No offence Chris,i'm not an ignorant person and i know where Florida is and i'm from Australia but originate from Malaysia, spanish or narrow bar is the same species of mackerel while the spotty is much smaller species mate, it is all over the Pacific not sure bout atlantic though ha, cheers mate.
