Someone once told me the reason why Toph is such a buff man in the play is because their enemies didn't wanna admit they were easily beaten by a 12 y.o. blind girl, it's a pretty funny thought lmao edit: guysss i alrdy know it was supposed to be a joke on Toph's initial look. The creators alrdy confirmed it...I'm literally js this way of thinking could fit the story well too
The reason the Jet joke is so great is because when they were making that particular episode in Season 2, Nickelodeon was strictly opposed to them showing a kid dying, which is why they had to leave Jett's fate super vague. So that bit between Zuko and Sokka is kinda like a subtle jab at the network. And also, on the DVD commentary subtitles, they actually say: "For the record, Jett is dead."
I don't know about that. The movie was bad, but this was even worse. Imagine if the creators of the movie released *this* instead(if this weren't in the show), but didn't do it as a joke. Everyone would hate it.
The a buff guy was casted as toph as a joke reference of the creators originally going to make toph a male. (Rokus earthbending master was actually supposed to be Toph - which is why he’s also in the intro) But also shows the fire nation bias as they refuse to show how a twelve year old blind girl continuously folds them LMAO
A recap episode is the definition of filler. However, ATLA is another level. This has more to do with the plot and character development than The Painted Lady episode. Which I totally agree with you about. It's my least favorite season 3 episode. I mean it's okay.
The painted lady was the most useless episode. At least the great divide had important character development such as Aang as the avatar can’t take sides.
@@MrKingYuji Agreed, whenever I rewatch the ones I most feel like skipping tend to be Great Divide, The Fortuneteller, Avatar Day and the Painted Lady.
Cameron Caws you’re so right. For me at least the fortune teller has important character development and cool world building, and avatar day was where Zuko hit his lowest and realized even catching Aang won’t help anymore
Those ending comments about the play "But the effects were decent" were the writers saying their opinion on the live action movie. Also you completely missed the joke about them skipping the great divide :(
Definitely not a filler. And more character development then you realize. Aang was having Nightmares about Fire Lord Ozai. BUT. Did you notice Zuko was living his daydream. In the end Zuko's Daydreams (which he had about this since his banishment.) became a Nightmare to him. Because he wasn't himself. And when Aang defeated his nightmare. He would be able to daydream about it. Especially since during the Day Of Black Sun Ozai would have no ability to Bend. Which meant he could capture him without killing him.
Well episode 3 is not considered filler because it dealt with the aftermath of the war plus they were able to free the village by fighting off the fire nation. The only filler episode I could think of is the dream episode tbh.
Just because an episode doesn't connect much to the main mission doesn't mean it's not canon. Filler is material that is added on to fill in the gap inbetween canon material, often to help the pacing of the release schedule. Something that wasn't part of the original story. But with Avatar, this IS the original story. Every single episode is meant as the next stepping stone of the journey. And when you're travelling from the south to the north pole, chances are nog every story will immediately connect to yours. Remember that this is a world with a global war going on. There are incidents entirely separate of Aang and Zuko's stories. And these are what helps make this world seem less like a stage and more like an actually living environment. The Great Divide is not filler, it's worldbuilding.
MrWhatdafuBOOM their mainly anime stans so, pretty understandable . And i'm pretty sure by now they know there's no actual filler episodes in ATLA i mean they already are in LOK in their patreon, they may say the word filler which triggers alot of peeps but what they actually mean is "filler-esque" 😂😂
There are a good amount of fillers in this show but the episodes are so good, its like well who cares lol. I mean at least they acknowledged the great divide. They skipped right passed that episode with Haru when Katara got herself captured and it was right between all of those episodes that were shown or talked about lol. This show has and will always be my favorite but there are a couple episodes I can slide past and be ok...

Yessss finally
2:08 "Yo why does he look like a girl?"
You called it before it happened
Fun fact Dante Basco's (Zuko's VA) brother played Zuko in the play
HONOOOOUR!!!!
Really?
I can just remember him saying, “that’s rough, buddy”
It’s so funny that the writers even made fun of their own show. About The Great Divide.

@@Taz-yr6xd well I know that, it's pretty much confirmed. I'm js that this one's a funny way of thinking too, bc it fits well...
Nice change, couldn´t have made Toph better than she is.
That was also Toph’s original design. Toph was supposed to be a muscled 16 yr old boy
i thought it was also cause toph was actually supposed to be a buff guy before they thought to make her a 12 year old girl
@@MrKingYuji Aint Bolin based on Tophs original design?
I would see the Embers Island play over the live action any day. 10/10 would recommend.
Y’all missed it but they referenced the filler episode “The Great Divide” by Sokka saying “eh, let’s keep flying” in the play.
When they read the poster, it said their sources were pirates and a knowledgeable cabbage merchant. The cabbage man *spilled*

I love the blue spirit part and the way zuko and aang look at each other always makes me laugh
Still the play is better than the movie...
There is no ... What you said is a fact.
Wrogbe Nepe 🤣🤣🤣
What movie

I like the Zuko and Toph scenes.
The beginning of the end 😭
I know😭😭😭😭
The gang's commentary on the play is similar to reviews of the live action movie too 😆

It's might be my least favorite in the series lowkey. Even the great divide is more entertaining to me

I like the painted lady. If I had to choose one to loose from book 3- sorry Nightmares and Daydreams
@@MrKingYuji Agreed, whenever I rewatch the ones I most feel like skipping tend to be Great Divide, The Fortuneteller, Avatar Day and the Painted Lady.

I believe the voice actress of the play version of katara is Azula’s voice actress
Fun fact: Azula’s VA played Katara’s actor
“It was really bad but the effects were good”
Did you mean: Avatar: The Last Airbender Live Action Movie?
Let's be honest, though - the effects in the movie were rotten, too.
Shamalon just watched this episode before making the movie lmaoo
@@scottw3256 Some looked nice, the firebending in the intro was pretty sick. Then there was the rest of the effects...
This was an amazing episode. Guys get ready for the end, this will be great!
I think toph was originally supposed to be a muscley dude correct me if I’m wrong tho
Thats right!
Yup. I think the design for Toph was originally something between Bolin in Legend of Korra and Rokus earthbending teacher from 3x6.
It was going to be rokus teacher in 3x6 he’s also the earth bender in the intro
yeah, rokus earthbender masters design was supposed to be Toph...
Yeah it was supposed to be the earthbender in the intro

I also thought that might've been the case, but the movie came out 2 years after the show was finished so that can't be the case
The movie came out 2 years after the show ended, you idiot. Quit trying to sound smart.
This is not the case the movie came out in 2010.
To this day.. When aang slams him head down i can't help but hear him say ' Im a fucking idiot'.. Thank you The Normies....
I love this ep
