  • Join us on a River Shannon boating to Banagher adventure. We explore some of the lesser seen places on the River Shannon and in the towns along the way. Sometimes these are little hideaway moorings, and sometimes they are hints of a by-gone era.
We start out in Shannonbridge and then we explore around the now disused Fannings locks. This is a great little hideaway on the river that most boaters never stop at. That's probably because most boaters don't know that you can still get a boat in there. After all most charts show it as not navigable. In fact, Driftwood draws just over three feet and we didn't touch the bottom (why does that sound rude!).
After we check out the area at the lock, we continue down the River Shannon to the town of Banagher where you can join me for a little walkabout. And we find a few interesting things along our way.
Check out our shop at www.driftwood.... where you get your hands on our book "Driftwood from the Shannon to the Marne" the humorous account of our first ever venture into the sea, and on to the French inland waterways.

Really enjoyable video! Your mix of the trip/nature, the current views of towns, and the history is excellent. The folks in the kayaks remind me that, now that the weather is improving in my home state of Oregon, it's time to get my boat (kayak) out onto the water. Keep the great videos coming!

Hi PNW Girl and thanks for that, it's great that you enjoy the videos. I don't know what summers are like in Oregon but if they are as short as our Irish ones you'd want to get out on the water quickly or the summer will be over 😀

Thanks Gerard, at least it's a way of 'Virtually' boating! Keep safe and hopefully we'll all get out on the water soon.

@@DriftwoodBoatBlog yes it's very scary times indeed.......
Could watch the videos all day , the world looks a different place from the water I find ...
Is the boat hard to run fuel ways etc ?
      Cheers Gerard

No, fuel is the least of the costs. And we have 2 x 6 cylinder engines, but they are never under any strain so there're surprisingly cheap to run.

I went past there about 2 weeks ago and I was curious if you could go up as far as the lock. Very interesting.

Make sure to stop over the next time you pass. Seems to be plenty of water all the way up to the lock 👍
