It's awesome that a twenty six year old thermal printer still runs. That dinky little camera might even outlast a number of more modern instant digital ones!
As a French guy, I think that's a funny camera name and it should be "petite colle" as "colle" is a feminine word. But you're right it's like "little glue stick". It's funny because recently on Chinese social medias I saw a kind of new camera like this one that does thermal printing. Enjoyed your video, as always :)
Casio used to make a lot of cameras. The Exilim series were the go to for consumer high speed photography before Casio kind of gave up on them. Probably because Casio never made cameras larger than compact sized which were getting chewed up by camera phones.
@@snappinesscan you explain the buyee thing a little more, that would probably make for a nice little info video. I have checked them out for books I think but checkout is just too bewildering
Casio had made some fascinating Cameras, back in the Days. Little Fun Fact: The (in this Case Build in) Printer was made by a subsidiary of Casio itself, the Label maker Division. There is even a Printer for their most Famous Camera, the Casio QV-10, and as you can guess, it's just a modified Label printer.
Phtographer -enthuist who has a degree in photography here I love experimenting with thermal print cameras I am talking about the one you gift your kids. Unlike a polaroid or other instant camera although the image quality for the ditigial file is like a crappy old digicam It is cheaper than the other Instant cameras out on the market. The rolls of thermal paper are the exact ones you ude in a grocery store and you can get 20 for less than $50. What I enjoy about photography is you get to experiment with different cameras as a college student I;ve used a 4x5 view camera, hasselblad and lots of digital and film/analouge cameras for classes and they always left me curious.
I love the look of the prints on the little stickers! The inkjet printer setup is probably the best way to go. I remember some software from the late '90s/early '00s that let you set up custom print areas for printing a whole sheet of stickers, and I think that'd be useful here.
Cameras like this currently exist! A few years back, my nephew started taking interest in my mirrorless camera taking pictures of everything and everyone. Well, to feed his interest, I got him a cheap little thermal printer camera from Amazon. He loves it, and aside from the poor image quality from the sensor, the photos print out pretty great!
Woah thats cool bringing a dead Old Forgotten Camera and giving it a new purpose a new life! im currently saving up for my very first camera im saving up to buy a Lumix GH1 old but gold
@@snappiness WOAH there's a LITERAL Gold version?! Now that's one interesting camera to have hahaha Love your content! your content never gets old it's just perfect
This video and your previous two videos didn't appear on my subs timeline for some reason, whereas your most recent one (Sony DSC-V1) did. Not sure why that was, first time its happened. Anyway, great content and keep 'em coming, always interesting watches!
Another very interesting find. My thought was immediately that it doesn’t work because of the missing marks. Great you figured it out and made this work for more than the twelve stickers you got. And by the way congratulations on 50k subscribers! Well deserved.
That's interesting how the black lines are the "dope" for the camera to work. I wonder if it's working like a Scantron or other similar tech works using optical scans to give the camera the "Go ahead!" to print whatever it needs.
I looked into this camera a while ago but was concerned about it needing some proprietary paper and didn't buy it. I might have to reconsider again now that you've seemingly cracked the code! I would love a future video about thermal printers/cameras. :)
Probably the BPA found in thermal paper. It can be absorbed through the skin and some thermal papers used in receipts has been measured to have high amounts
Thanks for making this video! I impulse purchased this on Japanese Mercari without realising how difficult it is to source the sticker papers. Really appreciate it
Hello, I 3D printed the stencil and bought thermal sticker labels and couldn’t get it to work. I noticed the stencil was missing a section so I filled it in manually but still not working. Potentially the printing mechanism of my camera is broken… such a bummer 😢
@@MimiMatsumoto-dw8uh What error message does it give on the screen? I did also notice sometimes it's really picky about the size, so if it's too big but still slides in, it can get jammed.
Another thing that you could potentially do is... Have your replacement sticker paper to enable the printer, but also you could read the signals to the printer and at least conceptually get the digital image that way
I wonder if it truly needs ALL the markings... could you do with just the shorter black ones, or something? These "detectors" usually just work with the start of the paper (I had an electronic lock with "bar codes" that did this.) Might be worth experimenting with.
Did you do any testing to see if the camera was looking for all of the markings. It may only need one which could greatly reduce the manufacture time. Great video. Thanks for caring about the little things!
I've recently fallen in love with cheap thermal paper printers that look like kids toys. They are quite cheap, paper is cheap, some models produce quite decent images that you can gift or store as a memory.
This is the most "What was the point!?!" or "What were they thinking!?!" cameras I think I have ever seen. Like seriously its cool and stuff but not sure what the point at all of this would have been. Especially since all the photos the original owners took have faded over time and disappeared. Strangest camera I think you have ever featured. Fun video.
Looking at ebay, all of the "casio petit" devices that sold in the past three months sold on June 22nd and 23rd. The ones remaining are all around $120. So, you're literally responsible for driving up the price lol. Still a cool camera to look out for. :)
We bought a Gabby Dollhouse Camera like this to our youngest daughter and the quality is far from that and it's just a toy. At 4yo she loves taking pictures and the 5 paper rolls are already gone. By the way, "Petit Colle" in French is not a correct sentence. Normally, we should say "Petite Colle" and now it means "Little glue". "Petit Colle" could be better translate with "Boy, Glue !" like an order. In that way, the product has a funny name in French
very cool, very unique - shame there's not a way to figure out how to transfer the photo data straight to a computer, at the end of the day the camera must store these as 1s and 0s somewhere.. 🤔

I'm all about that! I don't know if I have any good advice, other than just put the camera in their hands and let them rip. My kids have been very naturally interested, and take the most random pictures lol. Sometimes they don't want to and that's fine, but I just have their cameras handy when we go out and they will often ask for them.

Yeah they probably meant "collant", adjective for "sticky" and noun for "sticker"

Nice stuff !! I managed to pick up a rare 17mm F1.8 for the Samsung NX Mini from Yahoo Japan via Buyee. Thanks to your tip from a past video.
