    It's really simple. In a finite world infinite growth is not possible. We need a system based on sustainable principles. This video does a good job of opening that conversation. Plus, Suzuki is one of the smartest people on the planet - always worth listening to!

    "Sometime in the next 15 years the END will come...an utter breakdown of the planet to support humanity" (1968)
    The above quote is attributed to Paul Ehrlich, the guy who got all this enviro-madness ideology rolling. The only breakdown I ever saw in 1983 was in a movie called MadMax.

    People expect other species to live within the same physical limits that people see themselves as exempt from. It's not only massive hypocrisy, it's dangerous.

    I heard the sales of SUV s (Stupid, Unnecessary Vehicles) hit a record high yesterday. It seems there is a public in another bubble which is impervious to all that's happening.
    The more shrunken, and beleaguered the ego the more ostentatious the vehicle I imagine. Teacher isn't giving out those little gold stars anymore. ..

    Instead of spending trillions on human reductionism and boxing humanity up, I´d rather focus on human expansionism...AD ASTRA PER ASPERA. Fu%$ yeah!!!

    "We are animals..." , a simple conclusion backed up by every bit of fact and reality there is, yet for some reason so difficult for the self-deluded species to fully encompass. Hurrah for Suzuki, keep telling them until they understand.

    Find the answer in the short film “Mankinder (Occupying Chairlifts)”! A guy working in the white house calls on an underachieving old college buddy, to solve the economy from it’s debt and unemployment troubles. A couple brief conversations with the reluctant skibum corrects the course of humanity’s future. A simple rule tweak on inheritance ends up changing the direction and purpose of modern human life! Watch “Mankinder (Occupying Chairlifts)” on youtube.

    Watch “Occupying Chairlifts” on youtube, a simple rule tweak on inheritance ends up changing the direction and purpose of modern human life! Here’s a fair way to transition forward, something specific we can demand, protest for, and adopt ourselves! Spread it around! If this isnt the best answer, at least we’re thinking about what might be. What if we were really just this close to having it work right?
    Oh yeah, it's a Ski movie thing. Watch “Occupying Chairlifts” on UA-cam!

    That's right, cite one overstated prediction of Ehrlich and ignore all the other consequences of overpopulation. Cherry pick and ignore context.

    There's only one world.
    Also, it's remarkable how few people have seen this video. It's too bad that folks are so ignorant. It's like people aren't interested in what's going on.
    Ah well, time to go look at Kim K's cleavage in Rolling Stone, it's something to see.

    Don't forget that U.S. oil production peaked around 1970, which is what precipitated American dependence on OPEC and other sources. The 1973-1975 recession was caused by U.S. Peak Oil (with a few years of lag time). Now, the whole world is in that bind.
    Republicans keep pretending that shale and other marginal energy sources were never part of that 1970 U.S. peak. They confuse abstract oil reserves with practical flow-rates and leave EROEI out of the equation, as if all oil is equal. Lies.

  • @4aSteadyStateEconomy
    @4aSteadyStateEconomy 11 років тому

    That's the same mindless Cornucopianism that this video explain as the root of our problems! It's unlikely any of it registered with you. I imagine you think global warming is a hoax, oil is abiotic, and all the species we're wiping out are trivial.
    Way to go, genius. We sure need more of that attitude. Just ignore the science, pretend nothing's wrong and promote more of the same. Ride the fancy BMW to Hell.

    End of growth as we we know it captain. ?
    Whats the plan. ? That is all its about. Capitals plan "We just keep doing what we are doing and what comes out comes out ".Basically let human greed drive, and plan everything.
    That is no plan. Thats just the line of least resistance, caving in.
    What are the goals ? .Where are we going ? What is an economy for ? Where do we want to be in 100 years ? Do we expect civilization to be here in 100 years ? Is there a plan possible that all alive could live in security, and peace in 100 years ? Dont bother let The Holy, all knowing, Market decide . Mad.
    The world starts freeing itself from one anachronistic set of beliefs, religion, and, promptly grabs a new set of delusions, The Market, and consuming or old style religion, I´m not sure which is worse.
    Population + Consumption, at present many times World Capacity; is the formula. At a standard of living similar to the standards we look for in the West. It seems we need several Earths with present population.
    Assuming we accept we need a more equal world or it will lead to big trouble somewhere down the road. What has to happen ?? Less people or less consumption ? Take your pick yer can´t increase both. Probably neither, and don't tell me about on coming tech, to squeeze another few drops out of the tired soil. Thats like running a red light at rush hour.
    What is so terrible about 4 or 5 billion living well, work as we know it much less, in a highly mechanized world which is coming. ? At the moment pseudo "service work " is being created because the old work is dying out. It is an excuse to keep the world overpopulated, and on the stupid "growth" drug lie. We just don´t need that. We need a 50,and 100 year plan yesterday. Its a new era. Spend more time at home with your family and friends. Buy less, live more.

    Enviroment problem solved with 1000 bilion(a trilion) dollars: Windmills,solar plants,hydro power and nuclear power.They all pay for themselves in a few years then reinvesting the 100 billion back into research in new cheap battery technologies and the quick development of them and offering a tax exempt for drivers that accept to switch to electric power and forcing manufacturers to convert vehicles to electric with money partly from drivers part from manufacturer part from the goverment and enviroment organizations.Bam,problem solved,panda bears very happy,drivers happy for cheap transportation,children and grandchildren happy.Muscle cars and 5 liter engines don't save the planet!

    • @KbcBerlin
      @KbcBerlin 10 років тому

      Some good ideas, but transport, and energy are just part of a greater problem to do with growth in general.
      Population and consumption growth with limited resources. We need a sustainable model of commerce, and production/consumption which is not dependent on perpetual growth, and prioritizes needs before the wants.
      Also just sum growth ie; anything as long as people any whim want it growth is not very intelligent, in our situation. Choosing the latest wide screen, car etc, before good education, health, pension and social security will happen all the time. Society, and civilization cannot go on that way. Real needs before provoked wants is the way to go.

      KbcBerlin the planet is big enough to sustain all the 7 billion people that are on it at the moment.I agree that more than 1-2 children should be controled in some dense areas.There is enough food for everybody and enough land to live in harmony with eachother.Tons of food are wasted everyday

    • @KbcBerlin
      @KbcBerlin 10 років тому

      There may,or may not be enough. But what is enough ? Who´s definition and for whom, and why more people ?
      It depends also what kind of world you want in the future. It can be pleasant with a healthy nature and biosphere, with enough for all to live at what we consider a decent standard, or an overcrowded war zone, a constant battle for resources, and status because to lose means a miserable, or non existence.
      Man has gone forward thousands of years on the natural agenda of more people, and more stuff. This assumption has reached a point for reconsideration as all things do at some point.
      It is pointless, mindless and irresponsible to carry on as if this choice was not before us.

      The way you can fix the overconsumption problem and the overpopulation problem is simple: JUST STOP EATING!! PROBLEM SOLVED 😁
