I wish these red panda's could be pets. I am not saying make them pets, I am saying that if there were millions of these furry fellows I would want one. So beautiful :D
If we make them pets there will be millions of them, bread to survive in all sorts of climates. If we didn't eat cows they would probably be endangered too, obviously I hope people never do to pandas what they've done to cows. If only they were cute, best defense against human predation.
habitat loss is a mystery? as if cars and money and humans weren't the cause of THAT. how many "mysteries" really are. and how many have answers money, and familiar ways of life, simply would themselves feel threatened to admit to?

The Russians could do it with foxes, so as long as the same genetic diversity exists in the red panda's genome and in the wild, this could be feasible. It'd also give them monetary worth, often the best way of getting a species to be protected.

I don't see the issue with that. :) If we breed them responsibly captivity then demand for wild ones will go down as a result.
