  • Before Jerry Goldsmith's theme from the first Star Trek movie was chosen, one of the considered themes of "The Next Generation" was a theme from Dennis McCarthy. Ultimately, the theme was never used, but it was released as a bonus track on the show's soundtrack, and I decided to recreate the show's opening sequence using this theme to the best of my ability.
It wasn't very easy, and I had some problems mixing the sounds and monologue perfectly together, but all in all, it's a pretty interesting take on a very iconic opening. It gives off a tone that's comparable to Galaxy Quest almost.
I hope you enjoy this little concept video of what the show may have looked like at one point, had they not selected Goldsmith's music.

0:59 This section appears a lot in the first 3 seasons, in episodes scored by Dennis McCarthy. Rick Berman told him to stop using it, and it last appears in the teaser sequence of ’Captain’s Holiday’ (most S3 appearances are very subdued, and you have to pay attention to catch them)
However, McCarthy does manage to sneak in references to it in S4 ’QPid’ and S6 ’Rascals’ later on.

Brilliant edit but in comparison this theme sounds somehow very dated, even though it's a full Orchestra like the TNG theme. In places it reminds me a bit like a take Superman and a bit like the Colbys.
