I just got my first scope, a siglent SDS-1202DL+ 200MHz and so far love it. The help button is awesome isn't it? 😉 When I heard that you blew up your old scope probing a tesla coil I gasped that loud my roomie asked what was wrong lol. Awesome video mate, you got a new sub here 👍
I bought this scope about a year ago and really like it. In fact, I have not found anything I don't like about it. For a hobbyist, this scope is a real bargain. I have never tried out the software because I use Linux but I also have read that the software is somewhat buggy. Anyway, you will enjoy this scope.
Just bought one used for $125. Thanks for the impromptu-torial, lol. I troubleshoot can-bus automotive systems, so I like the light weight since it often will be in vehicles with me.
Siglent gives you a lot of bang for the buck. I almost bought one a year ago, but went with the Owon XDS3102A instead, because of its 12 bit vertical resolution (I do mostly audio stuff). Its amazing what you can get for the money these days in a DSO.
Hey Paul, that's the scope I bought about a year ago, It does the job well. Solid well made. Siglent great for support if needed. Down to 5 nano seconds (200MHz) just means amplitude down and not really accurate, good enough for me I'm not NASA..cheers.
Yes, a comprehensive 120 page book, didn't need disk (but got one), you can download all you need from Siglent website, EG. pdf manual if you ever need it? Last firmware update was 2014. My only criticism is the menus are a little deep, takes a while to learn where all the options are, otherwise all good...You won't have any problems I'm sure. I heard Siglent were making some models for the likes of Agilent and Keysight. Good scope..Someone did a good video on ytube re. using, if i find it I'll send link..
Paul, Don't feel bad about glowing up your other scope. For what it's worth, I blew up a $20,000 frequency counter while I was working for the Government as an Electronic Tech. It happens with to every one at least once. As I mentioned before, that sort of work is the work of a condition that some of us have at times called "Operators Head space" $20,000 loss is a drop in the bucket for the Government but, still a front page article of me that seems to last for years among the other tech's.
By the way, what destroyed the counter was 500 watts of RF. At that time I did not know what a RF Pickup which we called a tickler was. A fuse would have saved the counter but, a fuse would be reactive on very high frequencies. So, no fuse, no pickup, and NO BRAINS caused the problem. I had to fix it and loved doing it too. The inside of the counter was just beautiful.
I really liked your old Hantek, liked it so much I bought one for myself. Your new Siglent looks very similar, although I doubt if I will buy one of those.
I just got this and have NO clue how to use it. Probe is attached to ground and a clock pulse square wave output and it shows a bunch of tightly spaced vertical lines instead of a nice square wave, which I am reasonably certain I have. Blinking led clock circuit running about 2hz.
Interesting, the Siglent was cheaper than a Hantek! Anyway, thanks for doing the showcase of the unit. I hope you have many fun hours with it and keep all tesla coils far away from it ;)
I would like a new Rigol DS1054Z, 50 MHz, 4 channel. Not so much to ask right? So I need advice: How can I buy this without being murdered in my sleep by my wife? :)
thinking of getting one for upgrading the basic ut81b portable scope. I'll probe some 230V mains using isolation transformer at most dangerous :P , not a lot of energy involved. Still a good scope for hobby electronics?
Sir i want to purchase a Oscilloscope my budget is very low. i mainly work with arduino i want to view I2C, RS232 and SPI. can i purchase this model and view the serial data.please advise a rigol 1054z costs rs 43000 ($650) here in india
I have a comment, and I usually don't. I let all my meters (this one Siglent DMM baby and a Tektronix 465b +dmm) boot up and stabilize. I have a high frequency counter from China that is highly accurate. Just let everything get to room temp, and all will work. Unless you are in the tundra, or a douche.
Just bought that Siglent SDS1052 DL+. New to Osc's but VERY dissapointed (in Osc's). How do you measure Sine wave and even DC voltages with that???!. The cheapest multimeter will give those voltage in a nano-second. Waayyy too complicated and non-intuitive.

There is just something mystical and exciting about a scope!

I also own a SDS1052DL+ that I got last october. I guess we are now scope twins!!
I have a siglent sds 1104x-e and love it.

True! For $250 bucks? Ten years ago this level of scope would have been a couple thousand.
Do a tear down. I never looked inside of mine. There are no tear down videos that I know of on the Internet and only 2 reviews.
Ok
Nice scope and look fwd to seeing it in future videos!
More to come my friend!
learnelectronics I2C application? 😀

Cool, glad to hear from someone who owns the scope and likes it. Did you get a printed manual or disk? I did not get either...

Just a tip, if you cant find something, hit the ch1 or ch2 button. You'll see what I mean. (like probe 10x etc.) Sure you'll sus it in no time..

Thank you for sharing. You're right, it happens to all of us eventually.

The Hantek was fantastic, I miss it.
TRADER!!! You convinced us all to buy the Hantek, then you blew it up so you can get this one. Now we are all jealous. :)
how is your hantek going ?
Nice new scope Paul. Don't break it this time. ;-)
Beautiful scope Paul. The last I had was a 1990s tektronix. Things sure have progressed since I've played.
Thank you
learnelectronics pssst! if you've no use for the co2 detector, I do if you'd like to pay it forward. I've an arduino and have a project in mind. ;)

Turn the horizontal control to adjust space between pulses.
Might as well 'test' the tesla coil with this one too. If it cant handle a few dozen 100kv then what good is it?!
it is a nice new toy.. you need to take care with this one, Ok?
What does the USB port for??? What things can be done with it??
You can store and recall waveforms
If you can do that..then please show us in a video how to do it..
Yes there will be a video coming up with a review of the features and a tear down
learnelectronics thanks sir... Will be waiting
Nice scope! 👍👍
Thanks
Nice scope..excellent..
does it have Tesla coil protection?
Lol I wish. I'll just keep the hv far away
Maybe operator's headspace protection would be better.
Nice looking scope. "Handle with care"! ;-)
I shall do my best not to introduce any HV into this lovely instrument.
Is is possible to display Vpp for two channels at the same time? Thanks.
Yes
Nice scope. Any reason you chose this over the Rigol? Or another Hantek?
Price

How to use X Y mode

Between this and the Hantek DSO5072P. Either one will do you well.
Thank you great unboxing video!

No this scope fires not do serial decode.

lines are so thin and faint on that screen
