As a Williams and Alex fan, I am so happy to see them make the strides to p7 in champuonship. Fingers crossed they can maintain it to the end of the season. That would be their highest position since 2017! Alex really is at home in the Williams . I think the team atmosphere and lack of pressure has really put him in a healthy and happy place mentally which has allowed him to thrive. He is so much happier now he has left Red Bull. I honestly believe the Vowells and Albon combination will really push Williams to the midfield. They are doing a great job so far this season
Williams and Albon just seem like the perfect partnership at the moment. The problem for Williams is that he will probably get some offers from other teams eventually so they have to keep improving to keep him
Get Sargeant to improve quickly or replace him with a better driver and Williams could be looking at p6 next year with Alpine in a mess. Albon, however, definitely deserves praise.
Surprising how Oscar Piastri is placed the third best driver in the whole of F1 for the first half of 2023. What has he done to deserve it . Got a second place in a sprint race and been out qualified convincingly and in the GP by his team mate who had two second places. The reason apparently is he is a rookie. There is also pressure on him to perform. Well that's true of every driver on the grid. Oscar Piastri is by far the best rookie this year and has huge potential. When he realizes that potential then he should be in the top three.
@@NotApplicableJB Yes and where have you put LeClerc on your rating now after over six years of improvement. Not a good omen for Oscar. I rest my case.
As a McLaren fan, I'm thrilled with Oscar's performance and I do believe he has the talent to be one of the greats. That being said, I don't think it's fair to put Oscar ahead of Lewis. Other than this, I'm fine with the rankings.
I would still personally put Lando above Piastri, even if he is a rookie. I don’t think Piastri would’ve been able to drive back up to 7th like Lando did in Spa for example (if you omit his DNF).
Verstappen- outstanding. Red Bull on course to repeat Arsenal 03/04 Invincible Perez- meh. He's in serious danger of the boot Leclerc- frustrated at a stagnant Ferrari team Sainz- okay but prone to mistakes Hamilton- brilliant at times but complains far too much Russell- not as good as 2022 Gasly- not at his best but lots of bad luck too Ocon- drove well at Monaco Lando- very good at Silverstone Piastri- made solid progress and led at spa sprint Bottas- whatever Zhou- unlucky at Hungary start, but committed a cardinal sin by repeating Bottas' mistake from 2021 by plowing into his rivals. His radio crying beyond a joke Alonso- outstanding with 6 podiums, but he has dropped off slightly since Stroll- It’s Lance Stroll. Magnussen- poor year so far. Hulkenberg- brilliant qualifying, but limited by poor race pace of his Haas Tsunoda- great start, but dropped a bit until de Vries was sacked De Vries- Sacked Ricciardo- Too early Albon- scintillatingly fantastic. Sargeant- even as a rookie, this is not good enough at all
Norris imo performs so consistently that he often is lower on rankings like these. He's done it so metronomically for 3 years now that it's just seen as a standard season for him and that he hasn't done anything spectacular. I'd argue it's just that he's just spectacular almost every race. Just imagine if someone like Ocon had a season like Lando has this year, he'd be top 5 or even 3 easily
Personally I put Alonso top of the performances ahead of Max. Max is brilliant, and has certainly delivered, but has spent so much of this season driving within himself that it's hard to put him top. Whereas Alonso has had to extract every drop of performance from his car and that, for me, puts him top. I think a little bit of recency bias with the rating for Piastri too - he's had an excellent rookie season so far, no doubt, but it's only in the last few races he's really impressed. I'd put him about 6th or 7th I think, just behind Norris.
I wouldn't give 'rookies' a higher ranking just because they are 'rookies'. This should be a drivers' performance ranking in which car and experience is taken out of the equation (IMO). Suggested amendments: (real rookie) Sargeant below (claimed not to be rookie) de Vries (and Magnussen). Sargeant has been the worst performer so far IMO. Piastri below Norris (and both above Tsunoda, Hulkenberg, and Albon), as Piastri couldn't get as much out of the car as Norris did (in the races where they had the same upgrades). I agree though that talent wise Piastri seems to be the real deal.
Great ratings, wouldn’t change a thing. Maybe Piastri as a rookie is more impressive than Max, but how do you beat perfection? On another note, what happened to your watch alongs? I really enjoyed them and suddenly they were gone. Hope you will be back with them after the break.
Yeah I maybe went a bit too high with the McLaren boys considering they’ve only really been towards the top in the last couple of races They will indeed be back after the summer. For Hungary I was on The Last Lap podcast and then for Spa I was away
@@NotApplicableJB Piastri, Russell, Tsunoda and Hulkenberg for sure. I understand that the car has to be taken into account but Charles has had some of the worst luck and bone-headed “strategy” decisions forced onto him this season. Since we have to take the car/team into account, they’ve been pretty terrible. I will say that I believe Piastri is the real deal. His calm in ALL situations will serve him really well. Lando has been well, Lando. If I’m being honest I’d rank Norris one spot ahead of Charles at this point this season. So, Verstappen, Hamilton (and I really dislike him), Alonso, Norris, Leclerc, Albon, Sainz, Piastri, Perez, Tsunoda are my top ten at the break.

Fantastic video! 😀

I agree that I may have gone a little high but I haven’t been as convinced by a rookie since Leclerc came through

I think if I put Oscar right at the top people would question my McLaren bias even more 😅
