- In this episode of Combat Approved, we’ll tell you about a Russian weapon that NATO countries consider no less dangerous than nuclear weapons: the Iskander-M missile system. Thanks to its unique aeroballistic missile, it is capable of penetrating any missile defense system of any Western country. The thing is that in flight this missile reaches hypersonic mode (speed over 6 Mach) and the extreme 35G overloads! And what is important, such flight is following a completely unpredictable trajectory, which is why it is impossible to intercept such a missile with modern defense means. Having been in the US Air Force, I have to say the Russian army has made some serious headway in their missile technology. Impressive, to say the least!
American missile development, especially in the supersonic regime, has really been quite stagnant. We're still relying on Minuteman III (deployed in 1970) for a ground based deterrent, and those were only upgraded to solid state hardware a few years ago. American industry almost certainly can compete, but too much effort goes to the development of botched or just outright silly projects.

The only time they tried to intercept a Tochka missile with the "David sling system" (Syria, abt 2016, a missile launched towards the jihadists in the south) the intercept failed, and the sams fell into Syrian territory and were already in Russia 2 days later.
Not to mention the failures of the Patriot to stop several Irakis Scuds during Desert Storm, one of them causing dozens of victims when it hit a US base in Saudi Arabia (towards the end of the war, the warhead was "intercepted", by Patriots, but not shot down)

This is actually Russia subtle way of saying that they have far more nuclear missile then they give out to the public, and those missiles are hypersonic.

The Iskander-M is a world class weapon to be recon with. This missile makes the U.S. Navy's Tomahawk cruise missile obsolete. Combining both speed and maneuverability, it's sure to deliver 100% lethality. The Tomahawk focuses on stealth and range. It's lagging behind the Iskander-M being subsubsonic vs. hypersonic.

When they said "dryer" I expected like a clothes dryer, not an industrial grade general purpose machine for drying things like 'boots and mushrooms'.
this is actually really smart. they basicly took their strongest position which is detection and ground to air defence and combined their nukes into the platform. so what is essentially a defensive system is now an offensive system.
they have amazing satelite surveilence and a huge land mass. with this level of mobility and firepower. its the brilliance of basic thought. (it doesnt have to be fancy. it only has to be effective). they essentially have one of the world most powerfull offensive/defensive systems known to man. at a fraction of the cost of any competitor. minimal man power. they can essentially have millions of nukes running around ready to launch
literally no amount of technology can beat that. simple fact is they use the most common tactic known to man. overwhelm your enemy. if your enemy cant lift his head out of the hole he cant shoot back. no amount of air power can touch this system (not counting missile systems like minuteman) no airforce essentially will penetrate them.
they could even smuggle these things out to launch from ally countries. they are so compact you can sneak these things around.
now combine that with russia landmass and an underground tunnel system to move them around. ^^ well fuck... nothing fighting that. (we havent even started to cover things like the weather and hunger)
Its going to be interesting to see the development of hypersonics and laser defense systems in parallel. Laser weapons systems with 100+ km range and MW power delivery will eventually render all missiles useless unless the missiles are used in saturation attacks.
The laser has a number of serious disadvantages. Rain, fog, low clouds, blizzard, etc. The energetic gluttony of a combat laser. The Russians have created a laser on a car chassis. This was not simply due to the required generator power.

Russia needs like 10 more years to build up and are pretending this is for NATO/USA as to trick the CCP/China. Putin dislikes the USA but knows he has zero chance against 30 nato countries which include all the highest tech countries/planes/etc. However, Putin knows the US wont invade Russia but knows China will try (and has been trying with india and a few other bordering states. Add to the fact the CCP has already stated some Russian land is there it is a matter of time. China has like the 1/5th of equipment and most old stuff and wouldn't have a chance against the US let alone NATO so they will try to pick a fight with Russia which is closer to their level (but still far away from being equal as China military is worst but China has money and man power 5x Russia so they could build up and get close). Of course this is all stupid because starting a war will likely result in nukes and everyone dying on Earth.

It's likely same system they use now called 3M-54 Kalibr (club cruise missile land based variant) . They used those Kalibr sub and boat launched cruise missiles to attack ISIS targets in Syria and Iraq.
@alex cych I think the actual range of 3М-54Т is no longer then 1500 to 2500 km , to have that 5000 km range cruise missile fuel tank must me twice as big, thus making missile monstruosly big , probably ineffective ; too bulky - it's just a megalomania.
China has done something far better with DongFeng 17 hypersonic glider system that is likely far superior to Iskender/Kalibr missiles...
