    Oh also: the opening for turning. I baste with the longest stitch length along that opening and start sewing again (back stitching of course). Then I press open the basted part. Seam rip open the turning hole, and turn. It is so easy after you have turned it out to tuck that opening back in.

    • @OklaRoots
      @OklaRoots  4 роки тому +1

      Well ding dang, I never thought to do that. Trying it on the next bag!

  • @krisvanallen
    @krisvanallen 4 роки тому +1

    About pressing the handle portion after you turn it: if you wet your fingers, it is easier to roll that seam all the way out.

    I am going to make this bag for 2 of my grandchildren to use at Mardi Gras parades to put their beads and stuff in. I think I will get a painters cloth to make it. That is a good strong cloth. I don't think I will have to line it. You are an excellent teacher. I enjoy your videos.

    A swoon Rosie was the first thing I ever sewed on a machine and it came out great! Her patterns are so great to follow, no confusion!
    This is a great bag for fabric scraps to make a grocery shopping bag out of! Sew your scraps together to make the bag pieces. Easy peasy!
    Tip: stock up on interfacing when joanns has it on 60 or 70% off. They do this frequently.

    I am thrilled to see this bag. I purchased a similar one when I was in Hawaii and I love to take it with me on trips because it can collect all. I wanted another one just like it and then I saw this pattern. this one is much more than my current bag as it has pockets. I will definitely be making this.

    Thanks so much for this video, Jess. I successfully made one of the small size bags. I LOVE it! I did find that I had to sew the curves a few times to get them smooth. It was a little easier for me to put the main panel (ghostie block) down instead of the side panels. Love your energy and pacing in this video. I've been waiting since the pattern came out in 2018 to actually make the bag since I couldn't quite understand it. You have made it clear and I'm making another one for my sister.

    Thank you so much, Jessica! I love how you teach! I always search your channel when I want to make a pattern- just in case you've made it. I am not very experienced, so I try to judge how difficult it is *before* I print or buy the pattern. :) The only thing I wished you had done was try to put the mini bag as a crossbody (we're the same height). So I may make the handles longer. I'm disabled and walk with a cane, so I make all my bags crossbody. I know this is a reversible bag, so I am curious as to adding a closure without it looking silly when the bag is reversed.
    Can you please make the Swoon Vivian??

  • @gophersmom
    @gophersmom 4 роки тому

    Hi, I just found your channel and I love watching youtube videos but I rarely comment. Getting kinda old and not up on all the new fangled technologies. Anyway, I have noticed that like many, one of the biggest pains is getting our finished seams to lie just right where one isn't peeking over the other. I also noticed you love vinyl and of course this wouldn't work, but on just your fabric seams, a lady named Donna Jordan from Jordan Fabrics has a little technique she uses that makes it so easy! Not all that finger rolling etc. If you have a seam that her technique wouldn't work on, then you can take your tool that you use to poke out your corners and drag it along the inside of the inner part of the seam (do you know where I mean) and kinda of give it a little run and it will also help you not have to do all that rolling.

    • @OklaRoots
      @OklaRoots  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you for the advice, Paula! I'll take a look at Donna Jordan. Those seams really a bugger to keep flat for me.

    Love this bag. It would be great to take my stuff to the pool for deep water aerobics.
