    Why couldn't Wayne Dalton just be normal and use 1/4" channels? I want to upgrade my seal to one of the ones that have the O within the U, but of course, they won't fit.

      Hello. It's part of their proprietary design for their doors. I think their seals are worse on the 8300/8500 series steelback doors. Unfortunately there is no universal standard for the manufactures. Thanks for the feedback.

    What a great video! With some super useful pro tips. I like how you refer to bottom rubber as astrical. Not a lot of people say it like that. Keep up the good work Santiago!

      Thank you so much Richard! I was afraid that this video was gonna sound redundant and it wasn't going to be as helpful. But I find more customers in my area asking for a bottom garage door seal replacement for Wayne Dalton than any other door.

    Thank you so much for this video. Just spent 3 hours of hell trying to fit a T type seal into our door, trimming, heating, spraying silicone spray got 3/4 done and then it just wouldn’t go any further. So ready to pull my hair out. The guy at Lowe’s said it was a universal seal. Luckily I found this video and will order the correct seal. Hope it works!🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

      Hello Jonathan. If you can determine your garage door model you should be able to find the astragal and bottom retainer. Here's a video I recently posted on how to do this process.

    I think my doors are kind of getting close to needing a new seal, they are starting to get flat. I remember changing the seal on my old wood doors, we had to pull tons of nails and then nail the new one back into place.

  • @Barryd57
    @Barryd57 5 місяців тому +1

    The seal is affixed by a long metal bracket. It was impossible to remove the seal from the bracket whilst it was installed so I opened the door about 5 feet, locked the tension bar with two locking pliers in both directions, raised the door manually by 1 inch to take the weight off the lift cables, propped the door up with wood, and loosened the cable brackets at the bottom of the door at each end. I removed all of the screws on the cable brackets, allowing them to flop about. After marking the holes, I removed all of the self tapping screws that hold the bracket. After removing the various self-tapping screws along the long bracket, I was able to get the bracket out and performed the removal of the old seal using my bench vise & a wood horse. There were two dimples squeezing the old seal at each end so they had to be punched flat before the seal would move. I did not use WD40. I cleaned out the guide, added some lubricant to the guide (not WD40) and installed the new seal. The garage door had to be adjusted by removing some of the down movement else it would collapse the new seal. In total, I did 4 doors like this.

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  5 місяців тому

      Wow! Thanks for sharing your experience.
      Yes the two dimples or pinch points to keep the seal from moving make it difficult to replace. Yet it looks like you were successful.

    Wayne dalton doors are the worst doors I have ever had the displeasure of installing it's now at the point if I'm called for one I either tell them to get someone else or I charge triple the only advice someone needs for these doors is how to burn them and remove them from the market

      Woah! Those are some strong convictions. And I must say that I agree with you in part. The fact that WD does not offer nylon bearing rollers when all other door manufactures do baffles me. But the folks down here at Wayne Dalton are good people and they have fair customer service. So I keep going back for them. What door do you prefer to install Mr Torbjorn?

      WD 8000 and TS series doors aren't awful, but the 9000 series are all garbage. The bulb-type bottom rubber is the absolute worst, although I have come up with tricks to make it a bit easier, and the Texas clip on seal for commercial doors is terrible to replace. Give me C.H.I. doors any day.

      @@sosgds I don't even know if I have a WD garage door. I was just shaking my head where you said they can have their own customer weather stripping and I immediately realized the scam they are playing by doing that. If they can't use the same standard sizes of weather seal that you can find in any big box hardware store, then they shouldn't be designing products. People need to be able to DIY fix their own stuff on a garage door that my be 22 years old (like mine). And often you'll run into cases where the manufacturer has discontinued that particular line of product (probably 10 years prior) and now you are stuck with some custom disposable part that you can't replace. Or have to pay a very high mark up fee because they are the only one who sell it. oh well.

      Hello. Yes I have heard of Boer seals. They seem good quality but I don't install them in my area. The type of seal you'll need for your door will depend on the bottom retainer. If it is an aluminum retainer than you should be ok with a Boer seal.
