Music has no boundaries, religion or language, this is such a beautiful song, i am 40 now, a Sikh, living in India, i don't understand a word of this song, but as a child this was the first song i learnt to sing !!! my dad introduced me to Harry Belafontes songs.

How many of you are here after watching 'Mozhi' (Tamil) film? 😄And then, realised Tamil composer Mr. Ilayaraja had lifted this tune and used it for one of his songs in the Kamal starrer film 'Vikram'... for 'En Jodi Manja Kuruvi' song!!! 🤪

“Hava Nagila” (הבה נגילה Havah Nagilah, "Let us rejoice") is an Israeli folk song traditionally sung at Jewish celebrations. It is perhaps the first modern Israeli folk song in the Hebrew language that has become a staple of band performers at Jewish weddings and bar/bat mitzvah celebrations. It was composed in the 1920s in the British Mandate of Palestine, at a time when Hebrew was first being revived as a spoken language for the first time in 2,000 years (since the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 CE). For the first time, Jews were being encouraged to speak Hebrew as a common language, instead of Yiddish, Arabic, Ladino, or other regional Jewish languages.

Thank you so much for that information!
I love the Jewish people, their traditions, music and culture..
      And their weddings..
I have two American Jews married into the family...
I also love the film Fiddler on the roof..
And an Israeli friend Nurit presented me with a Tora which is a very precious gift to me.
Next life I'd like to be born a Jew...☺
And I've always loved this song from the age of 10 and I am 60 now...

This unlocked a DEEP SEATED memory! I first heard this after a long time from that Hunters show, and then I was wondering why it sounded familiar but not quite...then I found this and it all made sense! My grandmother and mother used to listen to a lot of Harry Belafonte, so I probably heard his version before anything else.
