I would think that studying mermaids must be a really high-budget project where you’re gonna need a lot of equipment and this people here are recording a fucking transformation in what appears to be ipads, phones and one or two cameras. Couldn’t they install cameras at every angle of that room so they didn’t take the risk of having shaky videos of this epic moment because of the researchers running around the fish tank like headless chickens? 😂😂😂😂
i think they got more laid back since they already studied like that a mermaid and now they know they can get another. plus this is to look as unintrusive as possible to Ryn so she would keep coming on her own
Kinda reminds me of the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale where when the mermaid becomes human, her body feels like a sword is slashing through her in half.
I love watching the way she is as she's in her (original) mermaid form, the way she transforms back into human form, and as Ben and Maddie give her a towel to cover herself.
Not only is the most painfull and tortous thing. But is incredible belivebla. This séries is actually showing how could be real mermaids. Its also kind of horrofying thinking that Ryn is passing for this. Not only the pain, but the humiliation, I imagine that for mermaids being seen in this perspective must be desonerable as their show as Top Predators. But this series mythology and effects are amazing. Just great.
The part where her tail is severed from the rest of her body was pretty gory-even more gory than the werewolf transformations in An American Werewolf In London and the first Howling movie combined!

Jo Smith I didn’t say it was better than American Werewolf, I just said it was more gory, meaning that we see more blood in this transformation than we do in American Werewolf’s transformation which hardly showed any blood at all in their transformation. But personally I agree with you in that no one can really top American Werewolf in terms of it’s transformation or it’s special effects
My favorite bit is that the tail fin stayed behind as solid flesh it freaking broke off amazing really nice detail i always hated how they always rolled the finns up to magically make them feet in othermovies and shows

Crywolf I completely agree! I love that detail too (the fact that they don't change right away), since it makes it even more realistic. The show has shown that at least the turning INTO a mermaid gets shorter after they do it a few times. For example, the first clip of Ryn turning (S1E1) was really slow and painfully (she just kind of stood still in the ocean), but by the end of the season (last/second to last episode of S1) she was able to jump right into the ocean off the boat and start swimming as the quicker transformation took place. However, from what we’ve seen of their turning into humans, it seems to take longer and be riskier. At the start of S2 they found several dead mermaids and merman and one nearly died from a collapsed lung.
