Fun fact that isn't technically related to the video, but in Kirby Star Allies their is a secret congratulation statue you can find in the game, and once you find it and if you have vibrations on for your Switch controller, it will play the main Kirby song "Green Green". Why is this such a big deal? Because the controller doesn't have speakers, the controller will literally vibrate in such a way that it plays the song.
@@hyper_sword8835 It's either a HAL Room or the level you unlock after beating Void Termina. It should be in the final world as one of the EX/Bonus stages.
28:51 no, they cannot. BUT, here is a thing that paul prower pointed out: his jumps. "Kirby and Dedede can fly because they have mastered the power of inhalation. Meta Knight can fly because he has wings. Waddle Dee can fly because he really wants it. He just wants it more, so he just jumps off of nothing." - medibot
This video didn’t mention it, but it’s actually heavily implied in a trailer for Star Allies that the Waddle Dee from Crystal Shards is actually Bandanna Dee before he donned his bandanna! That just makes his character development all the more potent, because it shows that aside from his drive to be a strong ally for Dedede, Kirby is the one who first showed him that a little guy like him really can be more, even if the occasional insecurities pop up every now and then. I love Bandee 🧡
Bandana Waddle Dee is my all time favorite character in Kirby. Maybe even in gaming period. He is just so cute and relatable. Sure, you could find relatable traits in other kirby characters. the kindness and friendship of Kirby. The leadership and dedication to be the best in Dedede, the Honor and glory of Meta Knight. The misguided path that Magalor and Hyness found themselves in that would take them to their ultimate goal but never reach real happiness. Maybe even the tragedies of lost family and love in Suzie or Taranza. But their overall story isn't something most could or want to relate to. Bandee isn't any of that. He is just a guy. No tragedy, no personal strife worth mentioning beyond his relatable and VERY understandable insecurities. Just a guy who looked at all these incredible people in his life and thought: 'Yeah, I can be there too!' His beginnings were simple: He is a Waddle Dee. And yet there he is. Player 2 in every coop Kirby game and there until the end against dark gods, reality bending universe creating/destroying masters of magic, and the perfect dimension conquering lifeform. All because of that one thought. All until he finally reached his goal. Yeah, he IS there alright. Side by side with his best friend Kirby and behind his "Great King" every step of the way. In Return to Dreamland, he was described as "The Idol of Dreamland" and why wouldn't he? He rose up to fight gods and god-like monsters just because he wanted to help until he became an actual Legend of Waddle Dees. I think that anyone, dreamland or not would find that inspiring and something to aspire to. Bandee's message above all others felt the most impactful and relatable to me: If a nobody waddle dee with a blue bandana and a love of apple juice could attain his dream of being like his heroes, why can't you? All it takes, is effort. This has been my TedTalk. Thank you. Like or Dislike as you see fit.
The fact that Bandana Dee has no major backstory, or call to adventure beyond "this other person is doing great things" is very inspiring to me. He could continue living his life as normal. He has no issue he has to overcome with a quest, or any threat he must stop himself. He just sees people doing great and decides "I can be like them if I work hard enough" and goes for it. No one would shame him if he didn't try for greatness, yet he diligently pursues his goal purely because that's who he wishes to become. And through his hard work and determination, he achieves greatness. There is something so enjoyable about someone who doesn't have to be a hero for any reason. No trauma driving him, no threat forcing him to get stronger, just pure drive and a desire to be a better person.
Sailor Dee may not be as main stream and popular as Bandana Dee, but I adore him so much. Even Meta Knight respects the little sailor. It’s not about who you are, it’s about what you do.
Pyrr, the one who does the voiceover for DesigningFor and is kind of the leader of the bunch, has said that he’s been waiting for the next new mainline game in case Meta Knight gets something big like Dedede got in Forgotten Land so the video isn’t immediately outdated
My goodness, you really are becoming a Kirby fan! You are going above and beyond when it comes to Kirby reaction content. Should you ever start paying the games, I'll be there.
Waddle Dee is just the purest form of support that you just have to love. They don't care if you are good or bad, they don't care if you do the right thing or not, they still love you as long as you are nice to them, and they will support you all the way. They are the weakest there is, but they still are the ones who'll always be with you. And that is why you have to wish them the best
27:16 You can call him Bandana Dee, a lot of people call him that. "Bandee" is just an abbreviation of an abbreviation But Both are just fan nicknames.
5:22 "So essentially, Kirby allows for a very wide berth of a gamer's skill to be able to enjoy." Pretty much. The Kirby games are easy to beat, but getting to 100% completion in them is a real challenge. They have all sorts of puzzles, collectables, minigames, extra modes with increased difficulty, boss arenas where you get progressively less food or abilities as you go on, etc. There are plenty of challenges to be had in Kirby games, but they aren't necessary to just beat the game normally.
Bandee really exudes the vibe of a sweet little brother, he's just so cute, I feel like he looks at Kirby with the biggest most inspired looking eyes, so star struck, it's adorable. I can't believe ppl just call him a glorified Goomba when the conversation of him being added to Smash in the future comes up :( the times when Bandee has been playable in the Kirby series he's been so fun to use too. He's just a lil guy.
5:38 Another aspect to the kindness angle is the more varied the difficulty range, the more accessible. And providing accessibility for all is a kindness!
1:472:0112:0212:2313:59 Every time Kirby's Epic Yarn footage was used!! I LOVE KIRBY'S EPIC YARN SO MUCH!!! it's like literally the easiest Kirby game /srs but it was one of the 1st games I've ever played & is the most charming one imo
I just love how you take the videos seriously and pays attention! For a franchise that looks super cutesy and kid like, you’re giving it the real attention of a super fan and I really appreciate that! Welcome to loving Kirby, first stop, play the games, next stop get ready to empty your wallet with cute merchandise. I hope you play some of the games!! I’ll definitely watch them all even streams! (I’m also gunna binge your hollow knight vods if they are available)
I really love your reactions to watching Kirby's lore/history, it makes me happy seeing people not knowing much about the Kirby series getting enjoyment learning about him and his friends, I highly recommend watching "Magolor's Bag of Lore " video which contains pretty new lore about Magolor that you haven't witness yet
YOOO you watched it! I was honestly expecting the Marx video to go next, considering it's a shorter watch, but this is probably my favorite out of all the Designing For videos, so I'm really happy regardless! I really think you should get into playing the actual games-they're loads of fun and actually lend themselves pretty well to streams as far as I'm concerned-different difficulties for if it's a chill or more engaged stream, multiplayer for collabs, and generally good vibes all around. If you are interested in trying it out, I'd recommend Star Allies the most-in my opinion, it's kind of the most "complete" Kirby package, what with all the characters from the series history and the extra modes and such. The music always goes insanely hard as well. Queen Sectonia's and Fecto Elfilis's themes, Moonstruck Blossom and Two Planets Approach the Roche Limit, respectively, are especially incredible-you should give them a listen sometime! In any case, it's always a blast seeing people get into the Kirby series! There really is something for everyone there, and seeing people's reactions to the insane lore is fun, too.
Omg, I relate to the fighting game thing sooo much. I'm a very cerebral player, my ideal game was always something where I could sit there and plan for 1 hour before the boss, and then spend up to minutes minutes each turn deciding the best course of action... (Also have a processing speed debuff in addition to reaction times being really bad).
@@TheLegitWeebs Now that I have been noticed (Thank you btw, I found your channel from the Kirby reacts, but I've since started watching your Nier and Hollow Knight series... Great stuff 👍) I noticed that you played the persona games... I haven't, but I do love Atlus. I was wondering if you were planning on playing Metaphor, and if you've heard of Etrian Odyssey (which is my personal favorite Atlus series), which is where a good chunk of the non-persona mechanics and references in metaphor come from.
I've heard of both of these series and I do currently plan to play Metaphor at some point. Likely once I finish SMT V Vengeance or a spot opens in the schedule. Etrian isn't on the list, but if interest is high enough we could check that out in the future.
Thanks for the commentary. Always fun to see someone learn more about Kirby. As someone who also mostly grew up on turn based gameplay, Kirby was one of the two only exceptions. Kirby games on the surface are simple straightforward fun with fights and a small element of exploration. While I never beat the hardest portions for 100%, the main story, while not brain dead easy, is by no means hard. If you get the chance, you should try playing a few. (I can’t vouch for the difficulty of forgotten land, haven’t gotten around to playing it, but based on the Quality of Kirby, just about any Kirby game is bound to be a good time) Last up for the time being is Marx, Designing for Corruption. Looking forward to it. :D
