Steve Downes is the voice of Halo's Master Chief, as well as the host of Chicago's 97.1 FM The Drive's morning show. He's also famous for his "Master Chief Chili". Go behind the scenes and into the recording booth with Steve as he reads some of Master Chief's most classic lines.

I met you Steve at SacAnime January 2022. You were very kind and awesome to talk to. We chatted for a bit after our Photo-Op session. You made my day that weekend. I remember seeing this years ago as a kid and it was the first time I’d ever seen the voice to the chief, my video game hero. You’ve aged well and many more healthy years to you!

Imagine having Master Chief on your local radio station, regularly. I'd be ringing in every time those silly competitions they often do comes up.

Hey mr.downs, you did a cameo a few years ago for me when I was in the military and it meant alot. Thanks for giving me the courage to finish the fight when I had just enlisted and I was going through alot of schoolhouses while I was in. I'd remind myself to finish the fight anytime I felt like I wanted to give up and be selfish but I had the strength to keep going because of the influence you've had being this mythological hero of the master chief in my life and many others. No matter how the franchise does the legacy you've left behind has touched so many, including me, and you've made such a impact. Thank you Chief
Steve Downes is one of those guys who's really good looking, but he gets even better looking as time goes on.
Steve, you know you're part of a very select group of actors. Actors who's voices will never be disassociated with their character. This group consists of people like James Earl Jones with Darth Vader and Peter Cullen with Optimus Prime. Studios may try to modernize the Master Chief as time goes on with other voices, but your contribution, your dedication to the true Master Chief will always be cemented in time, and in all of our hearts. That will never be replaced, no matter what they do with Halo.

This is exactly why Steve will continue to be a motivation and inspiration to me when it comes to someone who’s really trying to get into video game voice acting. He’s been the same video game character for 23 years. 23 YEARS….that’s JOB SECURITY. If you can use your voice for a certain character, especially to be the embodiment of that character forever, you’ve just set yourself for life right there. This is what I want! I’m going to this. I will do this….
