I just wanted to drop by to thank you. I've had chronic pain and mobility issues my entire life. I have endometriosis, which caused me to be intermittently bedbound for about 12 years, and recently I've been diagnosed with EDS hypermobile type. I never go out or do fun things because it hurts too much and it means I can't do what I need to do. Since watching your videos I've decided to talk to my provider about getting an electric wheelchair so I can be more mobile without sacrificing my pain level or my stamina. You're doing such important work and I recommend your channel to everybody! Thank you so much for helping me and helping everyone who watches your videos!!

Have you heard of Smart drive? It’s a motor you have to a wheelchair you control it with a watch on your wrist. I have both EDS and endometriosis, and also have the same problems like you. I got my light wheelchair in June this year and got the smart drive in July. It’s such a freedom to be able to do things with less pain and not let the body control what I do outside of my home. If you can get the possibility to test to see if it’s something for you. I have traveled with my smart drive on a plane, had it as extra hand luggage.

Alison Lane if you look up chronically jaquie she had a smart drive and had EDS sadly she passed earlier this year. She did some videos about it and the other version with the motor is in the wheels it’s called e mover but the wheels are really heavy because of that.

@@simonjriley Yes, thanks. Now Parkinson's is trying to convince me to go on wheels and motorized. I'll look it up, too. I kicked the wheels once (car accident/back injury) and I figure if Richard can kick his twice and walk again, I can accept wheels again - at 75 yo. Been fighting to stay on my feet since my late 20s. I'm getting pretty tired.

I'm going to be getting a custom wheelchair, and I was very seriously considering getting solid inserts for my wheels because I can't apply enough pressure with a hand pump to fill up even a soccer ball. So glad you talked about the air compressor, because now I don't have to worry about my chair wheels going flat, and it's a way for me to fill up my bicycle tires once a year (I can't bike very often - usually one week each year - so they usually go mostly flat in between uses, and I can never get them even close to full by hand). I've also been in the market for a good shower head with a hose, and having some trouble deciding on one - you just solved that for me, so thank you.

Mittens or gloves are always a welcome gift for us who have to deal with wintery weather, also along those same lines a nice hand cream. Leggings and undies is also a good idea because we wear them out so fast with all the tugging... (I'm eyeing up that mini air compressor now that would be soo much easier!)

I still live at home and so things like the stove the top is to high for me to use to make myself food and so my mom has a indoor grill/griddle so now it’s on the cupboard I use about thee years ago me and my mom went to one of our towns big hardware stores and bought one of those wheel around island but we didn’t put the wheels on it so it’s the right height for me to use and I love it. It’s definitely a great investment when you can’t have cupboards lowered yeah it’s might just be a couple inches lower the normal height cupboard but when your short in and out of your wheelchair anything that helps make cooking easier is great in my book

This might sound like a dumb gift, but a reacher is awesome. I don't have enough of them. One in the kitchen, one in the bath, one in the laundry room. I need one in my van for when I grocery shop (I always forget to bring one)& one more in the garage, just so I don't have to go back in the house if my wheels are cruddy from yard work. And thanks for the information on that bag you sling over your back. That looks so cool & seems to stay put.

For socks, another thing I use is USB foot warmers, insoles, wheelchair cushions and so on. Super cheap if you check out places like vipon, I wear fluffy ugg type boots in the winter and my feet are still like ice. But I can wear these, tuck a cheap charger pack into one leg and my feet stay pretty cosy for my journey, real game changer in the winter. People forget you can get super cold as a wheelchair user, especially the lower half. I'm not quite ready to trade my street cred for a cosy toes like babies have just yet 😂

there are shower thingies which are just a bar with a thing that the shower head can clip into but can be adjusted to different heights depending on the placement of the bar, which is useful for those, like myself, who can't have their arms up for too long.

    • @junbh2
      @junbh2 5 років тому +1

My parents have something like this in two different bathrooms and they are awesome. There's a vertical metal bar and you can slide the holder up or down and lock it at any height, or take the showerhead out of the holder and hold it in your hand. No one in our family has any disabilities, but they are just better period. It means you can wash properly, not just your head, and when you do have it in the holder it can be equally comfortable for everyone regardless of their height.

Dreamweaver, I tie the shower head loosely to my horizontal grip bar (inside the shower stall) with a stretchy, waterproof, straightened-out bath scrubbie. Tee hee, it doesn't get put up out of reach that way and I can use it down low without taking it loose. Never have to stand up from the safety of my bath chair/risk losing my balance and a fall. Afterwards, it just hangs down, tied to the bar, till next shower. No change of installation hardware necessary (if you have a long cord).

While I do love my air-fryer, I must say, I absolutely could NOT live without my INSTAPOT! 👩🏻‍🍳💕🍽
You can seriously cook ANYTHING in it!! 😍
I went to culinary school & cooking has always been one of my biggest passions; as much as I loved cooking, I was utterly devastated when I could no longer physically spend much time in the kitchen. -But my Instapot changed EVERYTHING! I can make gourmet meals that would’ve normally taken hours in minutes (literally!), and I absolutely love the convenience of being able to toss all my stuff into the pot, set the timer, and come home at the end of the day to a perfectly cooked meal. 😊
    #gamechanger!

I have one and use it but wouldn’t call it “easy” unless you know what you’re doing. However, it’s really easy to learn with an insta pot!

This is interesting I'd seen adverts for the instapot and it is available in the UK, I assume air fryers are even if it's a different brand. I'd been thinking about getting an instapot a while back and had pretty much forgotten about it - you could argue that means I'm coping with my existing setup, but then I have some stomach issues and I know I'm not eating enough vegetables. I don't cook anything from scratch (which is not as bad in the UK compared to the US, I lived there for 5 years and we have a lot more preprepared stuff that isn't just full of fat available here). So I feel like I need to do something and I really don't know what!

Great video, perfect for the upcoming holiday season. Could be keen for the massager for lower back pain for sure, and I'll definitely look into the air fryer too. Sounds great for someone like me who enjoys cooking a lot. A few things I might add are: Alexa or Google Home device for voice activated stuff. Getting into bed and realising you left the hallway light on? No problem! Another thing are those robot vacuum things that clean your apartment while you're out. Very handy! Plus they work with Alexa so you can feel like you're living in the future when your personal assistant cleans the floor for you.
Also, Andrew, great work on the Christmas intro dude! Had me laughing. Merry Christmas

Sorry, not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but I'd not recommend the automatic robot vacuum for anyone with pets. I have friends who had one and their cat got sick on the floor while they were at work. They came home to it smeared all over the dining room floor because the robot just drive over it. So gross.

Angie 978 I agree. I have 2 cats and 2 dogs and the Roomba didn’t work for us. We had to change the brushes 2-3x in a year. It just wasn’t worth it.

Not a wheelchair user but I’m debating on buying 5 of those robot litter boxes... I’m a crazy cat lady& have 6 cats. One half of my laundry room is constantly covered in a fine layer of dust because of the litter and I’m constantly cleaning litter.
    So, I need them.

Curious about wheelchair gloves you would suggest.
There's a clip on umbrella holder.
As for around the house there's shevles that extend out that would be a good gift. But I'm not sure what they're called.
I use just dance and sports wii games to get upper body strength and excercises and have fun all at once. So maybe that.
