  • This is Episode 3 of Mastering Lightroom Classic CC. In this video, I demonstrate all the different ways you can cull images then I talk about the different ways you can compare two or more images to one-another and finally I offer various ways to view the image and folders that contain your images. I cover a lot of ground in this episode and mention a lot of keyboard shortcuts so you may find it beneficial to take notes as you watch.

Anthony, like so many others who have commented on your video series, after struggling for so long I finally buckled down to watch the videos in their entirety and I have learned so much!! Your approach to teaching is the best. It's at a pace that allows the topic to sink in. What's absolutely the best is, I have my laptop beside my desktop (where I watch the video) and this gives me the opportunity to actually perform the actions you explain. I just downloaded your Lightroom Shortcuts Cheat Sheet and made a small donation. Thanks again, and keep up the good work.

I'd like to agree with Joice, because of you I no longer fear Lightroom, it's true.
I have looked at so many people explaining how to use lightroom that I was completely lost and every
time I opened up lightroom, I ended up closing and saying to myself where did I go wrong.
I seem to know better now how to solve things and don't worry about going wrong so much. Big thanks to you and your approach to teaching.

You speak clearly and not so quickly that I get left behind! I also like the manner in which you demonstrate what you are saying, it is timely to what you are conveying. Your subject is presented in an organized way, at least in a way I personally can follow easily--you do not jump ahead before you have laid the groundwork. I completely understood everything you were explaining!

Episode 3 was fantastic for me. I pretty much understand how to cull my images now, but I will watch it again. I never knew whether to use the flags, stars or colors. A no-brainer for me now: the flags! Before the video, I had been wasting precious time by culling images manually on a folder in my hard drive, THEN importing only those images to LR. I would have to peruse the whole batch in Explorer several times, writing down the image numbers on paper, putting one or a double check to the side to designate it as a possible keeper and a need for a review. I know.. dumb, dumb... but that's the way I did it before LR, and I simply continued the process. Other videos and Kelby's book said what you said in your video, but the others were just too confusing for me. Great job! I hit the "thumbs up" and "subscribed," too. Can't wait to go to 4 - Collections.. another stumbling block for me. Oh, and I really like your limiting the video to 30 minutes. I start to drift after that, and no fault of yours. I'm 82 and just can't concentrate longer than that.

Thank you so very much for being thorough, methodical and clear..I'm new to Lightroom cc and I felt lost. Went though so many UA-cam videos with bits and pieces of information . Came across your series and that was it..!!....Still going through them one by one and learnt a lot and at last, imported my photos.....Thank you from Sydney Australia. Hope you're safe and healthy. THANK YOU! I have been following you for more than a year and working with Lightroom. From experience I know one has to use an application over time to become "fluent" with it. And then there is the whole discussion of photography of which "developing" photos is just one aspect. I returned from Father's Day weekend with my daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren. I imported all the images I shot into Lightroom, and then struggled to find an efficient way to browse through them to make initial decisions about which to keep and which to revisit for developing. THEN I watched your "Cull & Organize" video. You published it just over a month ago, but today it was RELEVANT. Thanks again.

Hi Anthony ... Fabulous video and series overall ... really helpful ... A question: I'm trying to delete photos selected with an "X" flag ... I tried using "Delete Rejected Photos" but keep getting a message that says, "The original files can not be deleted because they are missing or on a volume that is offline." I get an active "Remove" button, but this indicates the pics will be deleted from Lightroom and not my MacBook Pro hard drive ... I tried doing this in both "Previous Imports" as well as bringing up the film strip in the subfolder ... Wondering what I'm doing wrong ... Suggestions?

Great video, Anthony! I am so appreciative of your great teaching style. I just discovered this series. I have been using Lightroom for a few years and thought I understood organizing folders but was given some wrong or incomplete info from a very prominent "instructor". I imported from external hard drive into collections and did not pay attention to the folders at all. I created collection sets and collections within as I culled the photos. I have now located all of my folders within Lightroom since I did use a good org system on my external hard drive. I now need to figure out how to eliminate all of the unnecessary layers in collection sets. Since I wasn't very skilled at processing I am OK with losing the edits I made. Should I delete the collection sets and just re-import my raw images into folders and then cull within the folders? If you have a video on this or any suggestions I am really anxious to fix the organization system and get on with processing the many images that I want to work on. Thanks! Sue

Hello, I love your videos, they have been very helpful!
I am a beginner only looking to do photography as a hobby, and I have an easy question that I can't seem to find anywhere. Do you have a recommendation on what to do when you are done editing a photo from an organization perspective. Since it's a hobby, I am only opening up lightroom from time to time, and I may also have some old photo's that I haven't gotten to yet. I sometimes find myself not remembering which photos are done, which ones still need to be corrected, etc. Unless I am missing something (which has a high probability), there doesn't seem to be a "done" flag. I guess I could use one of the colors or setup a custom label, but I would think this is not that much of a unique thing that it wouldn't already be built in.
Any quick tip (or even referring to a video where I missed this topic), would be appreciated! Thanks!

Thank you for sharing the information. I believe ratings can be added to the metadata if an image file. Does that happen work the star ratings, or are those only in the Lightroom catalog. If like to rate my photos for household slideshows on other devices.

Great videos, very helpful! Thanks a lot! I have 2 specific questions regarding the organization of photos. 1) I'm using LR CC on the phone to shoot photos and let them automatically sync with LR Classic CC. Then I organize the photos in different folders (in LR Classic CC) and delete many of them in LR CC because I don't want to have them all in LR CC. Over time there are a lot of photos inside one folder (in LR Classic CC) which are syncing with LR CC besides others which don't sync. Is there a way to filter photos which are syncing/not syncing inside LR Classic CC? 2) Is there a way to export single developed photos from one LR library to another with all the non destructive modifications I made so that I can make further adjustments in the new library resp. go back to the original photo there? Thanks a lot in advance!
