    I got the P0403 Error Code :
    4891 - EGR Valve (N18)
    P0403 00 [032] - Malfunction

    Here is why my EGR valve has failed at only 90.000km(56.000miles) . Multiple causes found while taking it apart.

    I got a CFFB from 2011 with 160.000 km. Still first AGR. No Problems yet, even after Software Update 25.000km ago.

    Same issue on Skoda Superb 2.0 tdi, CFFB. Same p0403 error code. 114 k Km, error occured 9 times so far. Only solution is to replace it. Keep it up!

      Yes ! must be replaced ASAP , because it will overflow the DPF filter and eventuyally clog it ! keep an eye on the DPF parameters until the part change ! You can damage your DPF filter in only few hundred kilometers if you run the car with the error.

      122k on my wife's Jetta TDi CFFB and it's crap... lots of problems.. Peugeot make better diesel cars.. I love my 307 No FAP issues and pusing 210K on that

      239K on my ‘13 golf TDI but check engine light goes on and off every few days. Dealership did diagnostics and think it’s EGR but not exactly sure. Drives great though. I just hope it lasts me another 100K miles.

      Confirm , the motor it was very good up to 230kkm , after that I had problems with bullshit system adblue engineering of VAG ! but no problems with engine it self !!!

      Nu exista KIT - sunt diferite unele garnituri in functie de cod motor , tip dpf , generatie , se comanda doar dupa seria de sasiu la magazine specializate , nu de pe magazine online. Anul trecut le-a comandat o cunostinta online dupa "coduri" si jumatate nu s-au potrivit, chiar daca erau dupa seria de masina.......

      I don't think this model can be blocked due to the software installed that measures the input and output preasures , the car will just throw limp mode.

    Hi, I would like to ask you something after you installed the new egr, you had to reinstall it in ecm

      After instalation you need to to the calibration procedure with VCDS or ODIS in order for the EGR valve to learn it's NEW position. Not doeing this can cause the car to work improperly or ever worse , damage the new EGR.

    i change my egr on my mk6 golf i got a fault code. Turbo boost control postion circuit implausble signal, Had to clear the fault out a few times before it stead away. i would like to asked you my car lacks the power it use to have after changine egr out any ideas what it could be, Many thanks in return

      Did you run a basic settings after install? Was the EGR OE?

    Taking the EGR off and cleaning it with such details will set you back an almost new EGR valve.
    It will take time and patience and mechanics will change you big for that.

      I did not clean it , i changed it with new OE part, still goeing after 100k kilometers now . The video is about the old ones faults .

      @@TheSweetVillain yes , city driving is the main reason for ot's death. But also the coolant, that needs to be changed every two years. It makes deposits in the Egr pipes and it will not do it's job .

      @@andreydavydov6417 NO coolant in VW portfolio is forever , it has a maximum lifespan of 75K miles in 4 Years but that is in the perfect environment driving conditions , That is why it is recomented every 2 years or 40 k . This 50 euro/dollars preventive maintenance can save enormous sums of money in other future components damaged by the coolant goeing bad. One example : check on google what happens when old coolant separates in original components glycol and etc......

      You have to change it with OE part. These models are not fixable

      If there is no heavy wear, all this can be cleaned with a cleaner for cooking stoves, grease with PTFE and will work for a long time. The main thing is that the teeth on the gears are not worn out. Even with heavy mechanical wear, there are ways to get around errors.     I've been driving my Tig for the last 20,000 miles with this fault code. Would there be any adverse effect from this? The car seems to run absolutely fine... I've had it go in to limp mode twice but that was about it. I'm debating on whether or not to bother replacing it

      Yes , the DPF and throttle body will be deeply afected. One of my friends drove with the error for les then 10.000km and the DPF was dammaged beyond repair , not even a chemical clean could refurbish it , it was melted innside.

      I'm guessing it's because I mostly do miles on the motorway that the DPF hasn't gone so soon. I know for certain that its stuck closed, because theres no running issues at all.
      I do notice the engine trying to do a regen on the DPF at times, I'll check the parameters for it.

    Hi there,
    I got the EGR valve on my VW Touran 2013 2.0TDI changed a few months ago as it was blocked and car was going into limp mode until it failed to start. Now after 2 months I’m getting fault code P0403. The EGR was genuine Pierburg. Any ideas please?

      If the egr was nor calibrated before using the car , this could be the cause. Did you witness the operation ? I mean did you see the part beeing changed under your own eyes? Most mechanics scam customers and do a cleaning on the old valve, cleaning that doesn't last very long.

      @@doomyro thanks for the fast reply! I don’t think the mechanic calibrated the new one. He definitely changed it, I have the old one with me and witness him changing it. How hard is this to do with VCDS? Is it permanently damaged?

      @@adil6974 its not hard , i can't tell you if it's damaged or not for sure. But that error indicates that the main valve is stuck .

      @@adil6974 I checked with my mechanic and he told me if it was not calibrated the first time , the gunk has build up on the valve shaft and the egr if compromised , he also told me to check the % percentage build up on the DPF filter , because if it is allmost full , the EGR will suffer as well.

    Is it possible for to you make a video showing EGR location on the CFFB engine ? I literally can't find it . Also, how difficult is removal?

      You can't find it because it's on the back of the engine (on the engine lower body) under the DPF . You can barely see it from under the car and cannot be seen from the top of the engine . This video will help you : ua-cam.com/video/BzvTw92JwJA/v-deo.html It's in a 2WD golf but still the same part . On 2WD cars the operation takes from 2 to 4 hours and must be done according to ETKA specificatiions.
      For 4wd cars the operation can take from 6 to 8 hours Because there are a lot more pieces to remove including the driveshaft from under the car , the front subframe.
      Either way , allmost every bolt has to be new on reinstalation , 90% of them are "one time use" in vw specs . Not only that but there can be serious consequences if some bolts/washers are reused.

      That code is the biggest simptom. Do not drive the car anymore or you will clog the DPF filter.

      @@doomyro dpf is off already....thing is code comming up on first key in the mornings sometimes, swich the car off and then turn on and the code and the flash light from the dash disappeare
      But sometimes when I when I'm on junctions and car is stopped on idle I feel a shaking engine,but the rpm stay normal
      Also I feel sometimes the car kick off and boost properly ...sometimes not

      @@shaftt4067 as i said in other comments , this kind of EGR is very hard to turn OFF without MAJOR modifications both mecanic and software . The hustle and risks to cancel an EGR of this type surpass the cost of a new one.
      In your case the problem is SOFTWARE , because you did the mechanical modifications to cancel but you did not update the software to tell the ECU you canceled it.

      @@doomyro dpf was removed only,rest of the parts are there,resort and that s it
      Thing is I don t know if that egr valve is blocked or not...
      Question is if is any wat to clean that egr valve or at least to try it to clean with out removing, is down behind the engine
      Was thinking to a carbon cleaning service but I don tknow if this helps

    Was the egr valve salvageable? Could a good cleaning of all the components restore it to its original working order or was it beyond repair

      CERTANLY NO, there is no repairing or restoring this model , the problem keeps repeating if done so. The labor price is not worth the risk. A faulty EGR valve of this kind can damage the DPF filter .

      Rezolvi garantat daca pui EGR OE si garnituri noi. Nu uita de adaptare inainte de prima pornire !

    I have Skoda Octavia Scout (4WD) 2012 with 165000km ==> 2.0 TDI 140cv CR FAP (CFHC). French model
    Just got the error : 4891 - Soupape de recyclage des gaz (N18) Dysfonctionnement P0403 00 [237]
    I tried to erase it, manage to drive twice 30min annd got it again but no limp mode everything works fine.
    SInce it is maybe not completely blocked I was wondering if using the VCDS I should not try to activate (throguh the actionner menu) the EGR valve manually severaly times and hope to have it fonctionnal again few thousands kilometers ...
    Am I too optimistic ? :(
    I saw from few post that is a fucking hell to change it on Haldex (4WD) model man !
    I recently did the timing belt but here looks much more challenging

      I'm sorry mate but "hell" is upon you , there is no other way other that changing it . Running the car with the error code stored will damage the DPF filter because the EGR is not closed all the way and will permanently send fumes to the filter . If you try to calibrate it via VCDS multiple times , at some point you will get a failed callibration message and from that point forward callibration is no longer possible , you must use Dealership Odis software to reset it.
      Change it....

      @@doomyro Thanks for answering. Actually I do not want to calibrate it but just forcing the valve to move open/close (there is an "actionner" menu in VCDS where you can manually open/close the valve to test it I guess). But of course I understand that even if this error message only occurs few times a day it means that the EGR is partially (almost fully) obstructed and would need to change it ASAP.
      By the way, do you have in mind any good video or text tutorial to replace the EGR+radiator ? If I well understand while ahing 4WD (Haldex) + DSG, at least one bolt need to be cut to be able to remove the EGR without getting out the gear box :(.
      If you have any procedure in mind that you can write me down, I will be tahnksfull :).

      @@thibod12 it's different for each model of 4motion VAG , you need to get ahold of the Skoda procedure to change it , do not read every crap you see on the internet that you need to cut screws or modify parts like you see on Briskoda forum..... follow the Skoda procedure and all will be fine.
      Don't forget to change every gasket necesary in the process .

I always be unlcuky finding a very complete "Skoda workshop documentation" (with all details and procedure) on the internet. Do you know by chance a website where I can access/downoad such thing ?       Martor in bord ai doar daca eroarea e cu status Malfunction - Defective , la mine a fost cu intermitent si nu am avut martor sau simptome , am descoperit eroarea la o scanare de rutina .
      ESTE OBLIGATORIU ( schimbarea intregului EGR) nu gasesti piese separate decat AM -> NU folosi alta piesa decat cel OE sunt sanse mari sa ai probleme iar pe partea electronica daca folosesti piesa AM sau OEM . Acum EGR este cam 1800 ron , toate garniturile si accesoriile separate sunt ~200 RON - daca il faci pentru model masina 4x4 unde necesita puntea jos trebuie reinnoite suruburile de punte pentru ca sunt cu unica strangere adaugi inca ~200 ron . Obligatoriu se adapteaza din soft inainte de prima cheie in caz contrar se poate strica la prima pornire.

      @@doomyro nu am 4*4. Cine il produce oe ? Deci trebuie sa ma pregatesc de schimbare. Probabil la defectarea lui si softul dieselgate a ajutat.

      @@18csr Nu ai fost atent la ce am scris mai sus , daca te orientezi la cine il produce adica producator OEM - vei avea probleme ! Ia doar original Adica VW si nu ai cum sa dai gres ! OE = VW -> terminatie DQ ~1800 ron , OEM = BTN - BENTELLER si AM =Hitachi....sau alte basini ......etc cunosc cazuri care au montat de 700 lei egr si a tinut 20 zile......iar la altii acelasi EGR merge de 2 ani ....... nu am auzit pe nimeni care a montat OE sa ii pice dupa montaj.
      AI dieselgate? NORMAL ca trebuie dat jos inainte de montarea noului EGR ca il colmatezi in cateva mii de km .
      SFAT : NU MERGE CU MASINA ASA ! vei colmata DPF daca ai eroarea inregistrata pentru ca inchiderea imperfecta permite rasuflarea gazelor direct in DPF atunci cand este in program sa recircule.....este o chestiune de 500-1000km pana iei eroare de DPF daca mergi asa.

      @@doomyro si.a facut regenerare acum 240 km, iar eroarea a aparut cam de 2k km si am sters.o de aprox 3 ori.
      Pe unele oe am vazut ca scrie wahler, am urmarit ceva clipuri pe yt.
      Ai ceva cod pt un kit de garnituri ?

      @@18csr Degeaba face regenerare ....nu asta se urmareste , vezi presiunea difererentiala pe bank 1 nu are voie sa fie peste 10 hpa la cald si de acolo iti dai seama ca DPF primeste gaze la greu si face fata cu greu la ardere......si la 240km ......normal mie imi face la peste 400 spre 500 in mers mixt iar afara sare de 800 uneori si de 1000km .
      Te risti pe propia raspundere , stergerea erorii agraveaza situatia pentru ca "pacalesti" bcm sa creada ca este ok , citeste pe forumuri ce au patit altii si si-au topit propiul DPF (worst case scenario) , au ramas cu masina 100% in limp.....sau mai grav , au patit limp cand faceau depasiri.....
      Nu am coduri , le-am luat pe seria se sasiu , oricum difera unele de la 4x4 la cel fara pentru ca sunt conducte diferite (unele) iar in functie de EGR-ul luat , poate sau nu sa vina deja cu garnituri.

    Salut. La minutul 2.05 dati cu-n sprei mecanizmul de miscare al EGRului, acest mecanizm este acoperit de o cutie neagra de plastic, as dori sa stiu daca se poate ajunge la acest mecanizm de miscare cu EGRul instalat pe motor, la flap bearing din cite am inteles se poate ajunge cu un sprei din spatele motorului. Din cite am inteles cutia neagra se afla in spatele motorului EGR, intre EGR si motorul masiniii, inteleg ca nu etse o solutie de lunga durata dar pine cind il dau jos ar merge.Mersi mult pentru video postat este foarte informativ.

      Spray-ul este doar cu scop demonstrativ , egrul din film a ajuns la reciclare , acest model nu se repara. Iar de ajuns la el , depinde mult de model de masina , la Tiguan , nici o sansa sa ajungi fara desfacut punte . Nu ai cu ce spray sa dai pentru ca problema este blocarea rulmentului , sprayul doar temporar rezolva . Nu e solutie nici temporara ca daca iti ramane pe deschis in loc de inchis vei colmata DPF in ptima mie de km de mers. De la momentul primei erori calibrarea veche se pierde , deci datul cu spray ca sa revina corect pe pozitie poate cauza alte probleme fara o recalibrare.

      @@doomyro Salut, am b7 2.0 170hp il are in spate pus ca draqu, ideea este da eroare ca este egr si a fost de fapt computerul de sub stergatori! am schimbat si dupa un an si ceva iar apare ca prob egr. daca apas fara sa pornesc masina de 3-6 ori cheia rapid dispare martorul de check engine? cate o data apare rezistenta..

      Doar cu masina ridicata pe elevator se ajunge la el greu pe dedesubt , daca este 4motion , nu se poate ajunge fara desfacut cardan.

      No economic driving here , it was the series with the known fault, and had the dieselgate emisions software installed.

    I had problems after software fix, going to limp mode and DPF fault, had egr removed and dpf internals removed, emissions stayed same for last 2yrs now, cost me £400

    Inainte de asta o data mi s a aprins si filtru dpf, si am facut o regenerare fortata.
    Primul mecanic a vazut codul si a zis sa schimb egr ul(a zis ca e 2000 + 400 manopera)
    Al doilea mecanic a zis ca e doar o eroare in calculator a sters o, si a zis ca nu trebuie sa schimb.
    Ce sa fac?

      Schimba EGR de urgenta ! Daca mergi cu codul asta stocat se va colmata DPF definitiv !

      @@jitcadavid2582 a spus asta ca nu are experienta destulla sa stie ce inseamna acest cod de eroare pe generatia 5 de EGR care este controlata electronic de ECU si racita activ. EGR se schimba la prima eroare P0403 primita pe acest model , se pune doar egr OE ca sa tina cel putin 100k km ...... Verificati sa aveti soft dieselgate scos de pe masina !

    Instead of replacing it with another which comes in around £300/320 for genuine or £220/240 for decent aftermarket. I would have caped the egr off and removed the dpf and had the car remapped. Yes it against the law but the car would perform/drive better and be more economical

      Very hard to achieve the cap off to this particular engine , the remap is not enough ! there are sensors to be bypassed and also cancel the electrical connection , if it is done with only the remap , your DPF will be gone in les then 10k miles....melted...kaput. .... learn from the mistakes of others .

      I have a 2013 touran 2.0tdi which im assuming is exactly the same as this tiguan, iv had my egr and dpf removed and remaped, its been around 2 years now and iv had no warning lights or no problems, i have more power and better fuel economy

    Just had mine changed at 107k kilometres. Dreadful design and awful to change

      You are part of the lucky ones if it survived 107k kilomiters , some people need to change them at 30k kilometers , and depending on the car , 4motion or 2wd it can be a nightmare to change.

      Lots of people tried cleaning, it did not last , the fault is with the electrical board of the motor , or the bearings of the flaps. They overheat and lose their grease .

      @@doomyro thanks mate definitely gonna look at getting it changed mines chugging at idle and bad Mpg and delayed acceleration sometimes it just works fine them it does it again
