The most entertaining interview I’ve enjoyed for years by a personal favourite of mine. Marty is the complete package.Brilliant guitarist in the Kress,Reuss tradition.Wonderful comedian and engaging singer. In all honesty, what’s not to love?

@@filliusjazzarchive I wish you had managed to get Mel Powell Monk.If I could be greedy, Ray McKinley as well. I guess you can dream.
By the way.Did you get my old boss
      Peanuts Hucko?
Huck could tell a tale or two!

Hilarious and fascinating. Lol What a colorful guy. You can tell Monk had a great time too. Maybe my favorite Fillius Jazz Archive interview.

Marty's expressiveness as an acoustic archtop player has always greatly impressed me, as the instrument itself is not especially expressive, and it seems that, so far as the general public is concerned, rhythm, his preferred role, has never held the romance that soloing, particularly the single-string variety, has. So glad to hear one of my favorite musicians and one of jazz's true wits speaking at length -- that is, beyond the realm of CD liner note writing. Thanks for this excellent interview!
