Owl hoot during fret check banjo cracked me up
Lol, totally. Great vid as always, Phil!
I humbly bow and tip my hat for the patience you have. 15 yrs is an eternity in dog years. Sounds like it was worth the wait.
Nice guitar and great playing Phil. Airways love hearing your insight.
Love the finish and the tone is to die for! I see why you've wanted this for so long.
Some of your best riffing Phil👍🏼
Beautiful guitar and terrific tones!
Gorgeous finish! I love blue guitars!
Super great tone monster. Beautiful guitar & great features. Thanks for the time and effort Phil. Good tbings come to those with patience!
Man, when you switched into split on the bridge with overdrive you were rocking the heck out of that guitar. Great rhythm stuff.👍👍👍
Nice guitar, and I like the sound. Inspiring. Must be fun to play. A long wait to get it, but must be extra gratifying to have it in your hands. Good work PRS!
I have an SE Paul's guitar that sounds and plays great , the pick-ups are unique sounding amongst my other guitars. I friggin love your workshop.
Best sounding SE imo
Beautiful guitar my friend. But man you have gotten so much better ! Well done!
Beautiful axe great sound
Man, what a beautiful guitar. And it sounded great through that Fender amp!
Getting clever with editing... I like it!
That's a beauty . Love those pups in my Studio but also love the 85/15s in the previous ten 24-08. No wonder when you go PRS you buy another.....
15:09 splitting both pickups sound so sweet❤
"More like the core then ever before" Phillip is dropping bars in this vid
Great video Phil you covered everything. Loved the Bango 😅
I have the 24/08 Core, what a wonderful and versatile instrument! The colour you got is amazing!
Best playing I’ve ever heard from you. That guitar speaks for itself
Dang, your playing was killer on this video! You continue to show us that PRS makes top notch guitars. Appreciate the reviews.
That's a Beautiful Guitar 🎸🎶 Thanks for Sharing 🎸
That's a long time to wait! And the thing still has those birds on the fret board! I have been waiting also for a PRS without the crazy Hitchcock birds!
I love that approach to the switches. I like my Les Paul, but honestly I don't love the multiple volume and tone controls, I like the one control for that and the switches to single out the coils. That thing sounds amazing in all modes, plus it's beautiful. I do like the darker blue of the Core model, but that doesn't make it worth twice as much to me. Great guitar.
That is a gorgeous guitar.
For some reason I’m always surprised and impressed by Phil’s playing, and this S2 sounds great
I’m going to expect the owl 🦉 with every 24-fret PRS review
Congrats on your NGD! Pretty nice sounding guitar for half the price of a Core. Enjoy Phil!
Definitely saving up for this guitar
Loving that owl Phil!
That is one beautiful guitar
I really like the S2 line, especially now that they have USA pickups. I replaced the electronics in my 35th anniversary S2 with the USA 58/15 LT pickups and pots, and now I find myself playing it more than my core models.
Nice axe. Glad you have it now. Enjoy.
Congrats on your "dream" becoming a reality!!! Patience paid off.
The little owl hoots as you played all the notes was a nice touch! Never noticed the little owl there at the 24th fret.
Awesome tax write off!! It's, quite literally, the guitar in your logo
It looks just stunning. I also like he TCI-Pickups, probably for the same reason I like Mini Humbuckers so much. And let's be honest, PRS is one of the few mass producing brands you can be 99.9% sure you get an instrument with great QC.
Nitro looks nice, they must bring it back for also lower cost models like SE.
Awesome guitar
I waited something like 15 years for my first Stratocaster, but the one I waited the longest for was my Gretsch! Something like 40 years before I got a Hollow body orange Gretsch! Came out of the the case with the sound I wanted and my fave of them all!
That’s a do it all guitar. Nice!
Man i love prs quality, but i haven't found one with a neck i like yet, always seem a little to thick for me personally. Dang i got to go play one of these guitars, stunning to look at and i actually like the coil splitting. 🎉
S2 by far my favourite PRS line
They are nice, many people like them. I don't care for PRS. Glad you are happy and hope you enjoy it.
I believe the end goal is to get as many people buying the overseas products as they can as it seems to be very profitable. I also believe there is no incentive for them add new or changes features as long as they are people are buying that line of products at the level they determine is acceptable. When sales shrink due to competition or economics then they are motivated towards change in features and or prices to stimulate sales. Should they integrate more core feature sets into the other lines or modify the designs based on consumers requests? I would have to say that "it depends." It depends on their goals, strategy and business plans for the future. Some companies don't even want to be promoted on social media. It is also important to remember that the thing with most "successful" people is they tend not to listen to you unless they deem that you are more successful then they are. This is rooted in the believe that why should they follow the advice of someone who is not as smart as they are? They tend to believe that they are smarter than you because otherwise you would be more successful than they are. Of course this is measured in whatever metric they deem to be successful. That being said personally I would like to see the integration of the better tech across all the lower lines along without raising the prices. LOL. Oh ya and the good old fashioned idea of just lowering the prices would NOT hurt my feelings either. I am like a lot of people and looking for a bargain on great gear. Thanks to the whole "Phillip McKnight Team" for all you do to provide honest, accurate and meaningful information about guitars and related gear. I sincerely wish y'all the best.
I got a custom 24 in 2016 and it had the same finish problem mentioned here. It was peeling off around the 12th fret. I sent it off and it took about 6 months to get it back but not a problem since
I waited 15 years to write this comment
I waited 15 years to write this reply
It’s funny when I saw they did this guitar I had the idea for the title and wrote down I waited 6 years for the guitar and when I started I realized it was in 2009. Crazy time flys or does it
@@PhillipMcKnightThe fact that 2009 was 15 years ago
and 1999 was 25 years ago is nuts. That's quarter of a century. Definitely doesn't feel like it. Time does fly indeed
I've waited 25 years to read your comment...
And you didn't even leave one.
Fail. 😂😂😂😂
Maybe stainless steel frets will be standard in fifteen years 🙂
Brother you shore are one helluva banjer picker!
Oh, man.... just sold 4 guitars and felt like I was in rehab. So much for that... p.s. your playing gets better every time you do a deep dive.... lovely.
Just in time
Maryland is beautiful
As long as you've never been anywhere else😂.
I absolutely adore my S2 24-08. Bought it in 2023 though so that was annoying 😂 57/08s have been put in though 🥳
3:24 or get one of those gems from John Mann's Guitar Vault for an in between price, plus the nostalgia of buying from the guy who made the original PRS bridges...
I’d like a core for the price of an SE too lol. I have an SE 2408. I can’t decide between it and my American Strat which is my favorite guitar and there’s a big price difference.
In regards to the PRS SE Guitars. They should offer 2 types of veneers:
Quilted & Curly Maple.
Also in regards to the PRS SE Silver Sky: how about offering a Piano Black body & a Maple neck. Not a sermon, just a thought.
being an auto painter, i don't think you could spray acrylic eurethane as a ground coat, at least if we are calling laquer the same thing, laquer clear was always reduced with laquer thinner, and i know from experience in doing so that it WILL lift or re-animate acrylic eurethane clear coat, this has always been a blurred topic as to what guitar companies and auto body call laquer clear,,,, and then there's the civillian who tends to call any clear coat "laquer", i do know that the solvents used with acrylic laquer are way stronger than eurethane reducers,, one would disolve the other,,,i'm pretty sure what most guitar companies are using for clear is closer to something like bar top finish or fiberglass resin, at least that's what it smells like when you sand it
In 2014, I was lucky enough to be able to buy a "Core", "10 top 24-08 style, brushstrokes" PRS, with tremolo, 2 of "Paul's" pick ups (not the current TCI but very similar) with same coil tap. £2900.00 Still love it.
I've been looking at these.
Have you explained inductance vs. resistance?
Great video!
Great looking and sounding guitar. If I was in the market I could never see myself ponying up an extra 2000 for a Core. Not a chance.
Fantastic demo. Sounds fantastic as well. I agree that the SE models should be upgraded but of course then it's going to get more expensive. I don't think they would upgrade hardware, volume pots, tone pots, you name it, and keep that $949 price tag.
I love how Phil explains the sock test in every video, just for the newcomers who haven't seen him do it a hundred times. I remember when he first started doing the sock test, and had some people pushing back on it! Crazy. It's such a clear demonstration of how smooth the frets are.
The TCI-s pickups in my Anniversary 35 measure over 11k. It's strange that they use the model name TCIwith so different values. Nice guitar and video as always.
Oh heck yea, PRS is the best of the best!
The Pattern Regular neck is the only PRS neck I can use, other than the DGT, and I wish it were available with a wider array of models (such as one with these pickups).
I like the pick ups
Idk if it was just what you played but the coil splits actually sounded better than the full Humbuckers to my ears.
Gas gas gas gas gas gas! I also wonder if they will ever make a s2 version of the modern eagle V
The s2 2023 (10th anniversary) and all new 2024 that are $2250+ have all core electronics. That means the $500 85/15 humbuckers and pots and switches. Other than the tremolo system and wood and finishes you have a core sounding guitar for half price now. Not cheap, but well worth the new price tag
5:56 My favorite part of the video!
I liked your first little jam.
Never played a prs . My most expensive guitar i have ever bought is an ltd ec1000 for $999 lol. Im not sure i could ever do it and not keep it locked in a case
Nice job! Now will you be keeping your "perfect guitar" and will it take the place as your new favorite? Look forward to finding out how you get on with it. Cheers!
I'm a fan of the SE line, but I wish PRS would upgrade the line with Core pickups and a much better nut like the Core nut and locking tuners. Beyond that, I'm very happy with the SE line.
Maybe they will since epiphone is using gibson usa pickups..I would expect similar prices as epiphone as well
@@johnfoskey7855 We shall see. I just think it's ridiculous to put much lower grade pickups in any guitar. Pickups are extremely important to tone.
Yeah, but it is a method of cost control. Epiphones with Gibson pickups nowadays are over 1k, 1200 USD on average. There isn't a reason to drop Core features into the SE line unless you want to pay prices closer to the S2.
Great!
You can always tell when Phil is having fun. He gets a little smirk and bobs his head. Beautiful guitar. Sounds great, but a little too "switchy" for me.
I am happy PRS decided to upgrade the S2 line to core electronics. Those of us that already own S2s are stuck with the SE electronics, of course. This must certainly hurt the value of our guitars. Maybe PRS could offer us current S2 owners a discount on a set of core pickups.
to answer the se question, at first my reaction was a no since that'd entail yet another price hike, but you know what, if I want a basic se, I could still get the standard 24 or the ce, so it's be cool if they made a all out se version of this for half the price of the s2
Almost thought that was a javelina in the bush at 19:41 but it was a barrel cactus :)
I glad it wasn't, that picture was from my walk a couple weeks ago. Do not need to meet at Javelina on the trail. lol
That guitar would look amazing at my dentist's waiting room
Wurds is hard.
Another dentist PRS considering the economy (south eu here) 😢
@@gonzopewpew7838 Where is the mistake? Dentist's is possessive it is the waiting room of the dentist.
@@toliskoskinas hoping it will improve for you balkan bro - assuming
@@two50ne77I’m only guessing, but typically one would say “in my dentist’s waiting room,” and not “at.” I’m not sure that’s what they meant, but it’s kind of nit picky and obnoxious. That’s the only thing I can think of that isn’t textbook perfect.
Personally, I would be happy with an SE. While I appreciate the upgrades...they really aren't important to ME. I own 1 Core original McCarty made in 1997. This guitar now resides at my son's house, and I own 4 SE models that I play regularly. They are tools to add different tones, or "sounds" to my Musical Tool Box for my Music. The SE's perform and sound GREAT for my needs. Nice playing be the way!
P90's, noisless 19:42 ... you should check out jj's pickups. Bret Kingman demo's most all the his pickups, you'll be surprised.
Not sure on all these soft bags I just feel better when the guitar is in its case. Plus (showing my age) could go to music shops asking for any cool stickers or gigs you would play at and cover your case with some great things over the years, you’d see who where the guitar crowd checking out peoples hard cases. Sounds ridiculous but true and stickers where cooler lol. I miss my black Case and goodies with a USA Standard. I’m just upping my USA Standard with a soft mint scratch gaurd and a set of the one run 63 custom shop joe Bonamassa crocodile rock strat, he plays every show. Seymour Duncan’s custom shop really went out. Name of person that hand wound your set and numbered and each signed by joe. Un potted yet I did test some new potentials against some older CTS 250k all CTS 243-246, other popular name 223-229.5.. CTS used and it had how joes was wired and what cap. So did as had and ordered the .05.mfd fender capacitor. Other than spot on when measured, Strat had since 2013 sunburst yet maple naturally rolled edges. Ash which like my 62 Ri 12 last of the great fender 62 unless ordered custom shop. Maybe it’s in the head yet 62 with CS 62’s sounds different to the 63 and I do believe it’s nicer tone , also put and cut new bone nut. Made from Australian beef. Veteran pensioner australian army like to buy Australian not as cheap, yet I buy USA as love the couple of non us or australian guitars and think it’s down to picking the right one at hopefully a good time. Funny as 3 guitars made Indonesia one China yet all USA made and assembled pickups Seymour’s or Gibson USA paf Burst buckers lol.. stay strong all, cheers Matt🫡🪖🇦🇺
I would love to see the SE get the Nitro finish, this is one thing we don't see in this range. Because I love aged guitar
I want my first electric guitar back. A blue crackle GTX. yeah it is just for nostalgia. Just like I'd like to have my first car back
?? Love the owl sounds!🤣 What is the measurement on the wider neck ? I like the upgrades on the S2 and I think all guitars should have those upgrades …keep the $949 price…I just want a neck with those birds… 43mm …I’ll take one with a scratch for $850 🤷 The guitar sounds great to me. ❤
this is a true Super Strat. sounds sweet!!! Purdy tooo
Nice meeting
What I'm waiting 15 years for (probably): a guitar at a half decent price point (Korean made perhaps) with a baked quartersawn maple neck, stainless steel frets, classic/classy body shape (perhaps a jazzmaster) with classic/classy color (shell pink/sonic blue), a two point tremolo (either a nonfloating Floyd Rose or wilkinson), a classic/not ugly headstock (fender-esque), and two hottish, not muddy alnico humbuckers that coil split and/or do parallel/series wiring.
Looks like really nice guitar. It's roughly 8x the price of any of mine. I get some great tones / action so I can't see me spending my is inheritance on one of these. I also like my guitars to be plain Jane's so blue flames isn't my thing. Sounds very nice!
In my opinion the 90S CE22 OR CE24. Is the Best bang for the buck. Deep carve tops, Brass bridge saddles and block, Ressesed back plates ,treble bleed ect...
$1,400-$1 700 used
When a guitar makes you smile it means you’re in love with it.
Coil split o coil tap? Looking at the electronics it seems more like coil tap but... maybe I'm wrong. Nice review.
2:50 so, nitro finishes supposedly let the wood “breathe” but they put another finish under the nitro?
Insane price up
Beautiful guitar, I love my S2 24-08, I just wish the back plates would be recessed and for $2300 a hard case should be included instead of the gig bag.
Right before this announcement was made, I acquired a 10th Anniversary S2 594 (which is basically the same idea: S2 with Core electronics). Now I'm considering replacing my SE Custom 24 with a new S2, but I wonder about the differences between the 24 and 24-08. In the five switch positions they have in common, do the Core TCI pickups sound the same as 85/15? Or, are they something different, entirely?
Will P90’s fit in the cavity if you want to replace the pickups?m
Make a review of Ibanez AZES40
Dean made a popular guitar, looked exactly like that
?Phillip ...congrats on the AX.
Man! That is amazing. Just a bit out of my price point by about $2k. Lol
