Sweeeeeeeet Usually "ambient chillout" jams on youtube are just endless and boring simple-tweaking performances, but my friend, this is utterly awesome. Great vibes, sounds and programming. All hail the swedish king of synths!
Which part is the Nord? I think that the Nord A1 is amazing even against current synths. There is something unique about it. The great thing about Nords is they stand out in a mix or live.
Everything you hear is from the Nord. :) The Yamaha keybpoard was used as a midi controller/arpeggiator. There was a drum track going on on the Yamaha, that's why you see it's led meter going, but I decided to mute it (red marked fader all the way down).
Excellent !!!!! I like this various songs based and modulated by the same string's ensemble and the sequencer is fully in harmony with the mainstream . Great job ST . .
Alberto: I've not heard the NL4 in person - only on YT and read a few articles about the differences. I love the analogue sound of the A1R & there is a pretty good discussion of the differences @ forums.musicplayer.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/2621710/Nord_Lead_A1_vs_Lead_4Enjoy!
All sounds here are being played by the Lead A1, the Yamaha used only as a controller. The Yamaha MOXF is a few years old model (derived from the Motif XF) it is still being sold. Thanks for listening!
Thanks for the kind comment. A few obvious advices: make sure it has the latest OS running. Go thorugh the manual once, while the unit is infront of you to understand the workflow, shift functions, led screens, settings, etc quickly. I'd recommend using the Nord Sound Manager on your pc, to browse patches, as there are actual patch names associated with the bank and patch numbers, and the ability to order patches by category is very convenient that way. Have fun!
Do you still own the A1? I'm thinking about picking one up. I hear that it's a little limiting with the LFO's and such. But it sounds really nice. Thanks for the demo.
I had to sell it, to fund other gear, that gets used more. If I could have kept the A1, I would have done that. It's a good synth, but I had to make a decision. Thanks for listening.
The TR-8 and the Yamaha keyboard are tempo synced via MIDI. The TR-8 is muted, but it had a continuosly running sequencer in 4/4, and the running light served only, as a visual metronome. The 'sequencer' as you call it, is in fact multiple arpeggiators on the Yamaha, and are engaged by touching the keyboard. I bring in & out different arpeggiator layers on the panel with a push of dedicated buttons.
The rack unit should be ~1.2k eur new, if you find one, but they don't seem to be available anymore, so you'll probably have to try the used market. The keyboard version can be bought around 1.5k new though.
Thanks Adam! Yes all sounds are coming from the Lead A1 in realtime, external keyboard is used to play and arpeggiate some sounds. Enjoy your Lead 4, it is tonally a very similar beast.
hi thanks can you recommend any web pages or books etc for learning how to use it ! Just listening to your track again - my 17 daughter likes it too - and shes fussy about her music!
I know it sounds dull, but I'd recommend to read the user manual Nord provides, while the unit is infront of you, and try things out on the go. You'll quickly learn important things, like turning off "memory protect" in the settings, to be able to save your own programs/performances to begin with. Download it from their website (www.nordkeyboards.com) if you don't have a print. I'm glad your daughter approves of my music! :)
There are 4 patches used. The pad sound is an unmodified factory program: 2.14. There is one more factory program that I've mildly modified (don't remember it's number right now), and also 2 custom patches by me. If you'd like to purchase the custom patches, drop me an email (see bottom of my 'about' page for address) and we'll see.
If you mean real analog poly, then my pick would be the Deepmind 12. If virtual analog, the Nord Lead A1. But there are many other options, really depends on your preference, music style, and your existing gear to complement well.
Hi. With a Sub37, what extra synth would you recommend? I am interested in berlin school, ambient, soundscapes and melodious techno. Been thinking about the OB-6 or pro2... preferably both :) what is your opinion? Thx!

Never failed to be amazed at the sounds achievable with the A1 and this sounds amazing

Great Sounds and Great Playing
~This is beautiful and love the Pads and Nord sounds - really nicely done.
Thanks for watching, yes the Nord A1 is a great instrument.
Very nice tune...got my Nord Lead A1 a few weeks ago...an amazing mashine :-)
Excellent !!!!! I like this various songs based and modulated by the same string's ensemble and the sequencer is fully in harmony with the mainstream . Great job ST . .
Very nice session... Lovely patches you made there, thanks for sharing :)
Thanks for listening, I'm glad you liked it!
Lovely ambience with just the right amount of spacey-ness. Made me wish that it was another 5 minutes longer.
Thanks for listening! More music maybe in a next video. :)
Nice! do you have this patch available? At least just the pad part? Because I was thinking of grabbing this if patches like this can be had.
The pad is among the factory programs: bank 2 patch 14, also the tweet sound is among the default patches too, but can't check now.
Wow. I've never heard a Nord sound so good.
Great track ST! I own the Lead A1R & LOVE this synth! Thank you for sharing :)
I'm very impressed with the A1. Thanks for listening!
Muad'dib i have it and i love it. i also want the lead 4 do u think it change a lot one between the other?

VNV Nation - When is the future ? : >
Hello ! Incredible sound from the beginning pad! Could you share it? thank you very much !
Hi! Try factory program 2.14
Amazing....is this a program i can buy from you? Thanks
This sounds kind of like Kavinsky :) Very cool!
Thanks!
Not quite La Roux though. ;)
Sounds great. I love my A1 too. What do you play on the Yamaha? Is it a modern Yamaha synth?
All sounds here are being played by the Lead A1, the Yamaha used only as a controller. The Yamaha MOXF is a few years old model (derived from the Motif XF) it is still being sold. Thanks for listening!
Love it. Bravo. Picking up a brand new A1R this week at a sweet price. Any advice for a newcomer to the unit?

Amazing man!
Thanks!
Starts the sequencer from the Roland TR-8s ?

Very nice I assume Yama is producing the spacious pads...
Thanks! Pads are played by the Lead A1 too. It is capable to do sounds up to 4 part multitimbrality.
That's Nice! Thanks.
Thanks for listening.
What is the price point of this beautiful rack ? I think I’m getting to buy one
The rack unit should be ~1.2k eur new, if you find one, but they don't seem to be available anymore, so you'll probably have to try the used market. The keyboard version can be bought around 1.5k new though.
Great stuff - I have just bought a Nord Lead 4R but don't know where to begin - this is very inspiring - are all these tracks from the Nord?
Thanks Adam! Yes all sounds are coming from the Lead A1 in realtime, external keyboard is used to play and arpeggiate some sounds. Enjoy your Lead 4, it is tonally a very similar beast.

Hello are these synths available to buy? Thanks
This tune give me the chills. In a good way. Must ask you, do you use the TR-8 as master clock for this tune?
Yep the TR-8 provided the master clock. Glad to hear you liked it!
Where can i get these patches from if they are for sale that is
There are 4 patches used. The pad sound is an unmodified factory program: 2.14. Is that an arp or sequencer creating the sounds?
Arp. Randomized arp on the A1 doing the 'bird" sounds, the melodic arp is from the moxf.
Nice..:)
Thanks!
I just got back some tax money, and decided to buy an analog type synth...what is the best I could get for 1000-1500 euros ... in your opinion?
If you mean real analog poly, then my pick would be the Deepmind 12. If virtual analog, the Nord Lead A1.
But there are many other options, really depends on your preference, music style, and your existing gear to complement well.

I think I will go for a used Nord Wave at 900 euros..plus a Studiologic Sledge for 550...
Humon nord......
:-)
