I agree with the ranking of the singles. I do really like this album, Going Nowhere is excellent, I like Sail Away, Like it Or Not, amazes me how prolific they were, bearing in mind how many albums they’d made at that point they were releasing albums with 16 songs on and a load of b sides too. All decent.
I quite liked Restless as a song but I didn't think it deserved to be in the live setlist. It got added to the Just For The Tour setlist before Thirsty Work was released and was also played at "The Appointment" gig too. I read somewhere at the time that Francis was trying to push the song, how official that was I don't know. It was always played as first song of the encore and as soon as Rick went over to the keys you knew what they were going to do. Fortunately I think Francis realised it wasn't popular and was dropped after the Thirsty Work tour.
I liked the thirsty work album, and a large number of tracks i liked but this album was more for a francis solo album than Quo itself i like restless and is a lovely song and the song suited Francis voice, when i saw them live doing it in Cardiff 1994 it was disappointing tho that only one song on the album that has ricks lead vocal on it being Queenie, which is a typical rick rocking song, and should have been a single in my opinion,
I’m relieved you didn’t include the Man United song in there. It really does the band no favours. I have to say I am not keen on Thirsty Work as an album, although admittedly it still has a few good songs on there. I Didn’t Mean it is my favourite out of the singles released from the album
This was during a time when Quo became a pop band. I stopped buying the Quo albums after In the Army Now. They missed the influence of Alan Lancaster RIP, who was the rocker of the band. As for Rhino Edwards song writing abilities, Sherri Don't Fail Me Now sums him up. Give me Alan Lancaster's Backwater anytime.
Thank you Jamie!
Always nice listening to your podcasts!
I always thought the singing of Francis is very weak in restless

The singles since 1994 have been awful.
Rossi at the time said Sherry was the best thing they ever recorded, what a joke
Restless should never have been anywhere near a Quo album.
Just isn't Quo for god's sake.
