    Awesome colored chrome looks. When I get around to it, I would like to try using less chrome over the colored spoons, to get more of the color showing. While I was watching, I was like "stop there". Hard to tell on the video what it would really look like. Great job Barbatos Rex. Thanx for another great video.

    I've the most important aspect for painting alclad chrome is how glossy the base is. That is why I love your 2k gloss black for whenever I use chrome. It makes it look like real metal with that as a base. And I believe since your gloss black is a urethane, it makes Alclad chrome more durable because it is a much stronger base.

    • @pawpawstew
      @pawpawstew 3 місяці тому

      That's a misconception. It's how smooth the surface is. I've got a friend who painted a beautiful glossy base coat, but the surface was grainy... Glossy, but grainy. It ruined the metal effect.

    • @nismojukerich2994
      @nismojukerich2994 3 місяці тому +1

      @@pawpawstew It's really a combination of needing both, a smooth and also glossy surface to get the proper "chrome" effect.

    the problem with clear coating chrome is that chrome is a surface effect. So anything that takes the chrome below the surface pretty much ruins its light refractive properties. For a true mirror finish, you would need to try tank plating plastic in silver solution to reach the mirror finish, then sealing with like a 2K clear.

    when done over gloss and or flat black you can get the look of multiple metals
    everything from aluminum, steel and even that real chrome look
    it is a flip flop on which does a better job ALCLAD or SHRAPNEL and I would say it'll depend on your base material since Shrapnel works on flexible materials
    I made a great set of chromed compound bow limbs for the Smallville Green Arrow prop and Alclad was pure perfection for that because I was painting fiberglass limbs that had little flex

    • @barbatosrex9473
      @barbatosrex9473  3 місяці тому

      Chrome piant has a special type of pigment of flakes in it. They're flat. So when they settle it forms the chrome look. When applying a solvent based clear on top it unsettles the flat pigments, pulling them up and out of place let's say, thus ruining the chrome appearance. It has no affect of coarse when using an acrylic

    This waa great review/test of alclad chrome on colors. I loved it, going to try it over gloss orange.
    1st question, does alclad chrome require a base, meaning can you spray it bare plastic whatever the color?
    2nd question, i think you mentioned a heavy application can come out dull. So can you polish a shine using a cotton t-shirt or diaper?
    3rd question, can you use a rubbing compound or Tamiya's polishing compound on it?
    Last question, just curious on the average how many hours a day do spend at the bench? Thanks as always. Come on 100k sub's.

    • @itsagundam79
      @itsagundam79 3 місяці тому +2

      I know some of these so I'll address them the best I can.
      1) Alclad chrome goes over their gloss black base. Spraying chrome on bare plastic won't do anything. Almost all chrome will require a base, those "chrome" rustoleum paints at the hardware store are just silver.
      2) this isn't real chrome, like a metalized finish, so polishing will just rub off the paint.
      3) pretty much the only topcoat that you should really be using is Alclad's aqua gloss. That's about the only topcoat that won't destroy the chrome finish. You might be able to get away with Pledge floor polish, I haven't tried that over chrome paints. Oh and don't use any compounds on it. It'll just strip off the paint and / or clear topcoat

Bought your Barbatos Rex Swallow tail and both Mobius airbrushes on your recommendation and love them. Still working to getting better at airbrushing but getting decent results. One question. Hello I recently bought some Hobby Mio transparents and metalic paints, but I haven't been able to get this brand's cleaner for the airbrush. What can I use from another brand that can clean these paints? . Thanks!

      Alclad makes a chrome for R/C car bodies. You can do it in reverse, spray the color inside the clear body then the chrome and then the black

    I want to see a test of the mirror chrome by culture hustle. It’s $50 a jar. Wanna see if lives up to the price.

    I have had less than stellar results with Alclad chrome also. I have not tried the Tamiya black yet.
