When I saw the veeners and the press method, I said to my sefl, that deck does not look durable. A couple of minutres on the video and it snapped. Lol!

I got the same question too man, but ive seen people use 1/4 or even 1/8 inch thick plys. At least i think so man, dont take my word for it...

I would say, use hickory and cut the profile you want with a band saw. Glue them together and plane it and sand it smooth and level.

Hey guys, no need to spray your skateboard with water from a bottle. That's adding too much moisture to the deck. If you're worried it won't bend and conform to the mold, the PVA glue already contains water to do that for you. Hope this helps save you time on curing :)

It snapped because the cross ply veneer they used wasn’t one solid piece. Also idk what y’all were thinking but the wheelbase on this was all wrong, I could see the giant gap between where the truck sits and where the dip was. For those who don’t know what a dip is it’s the part where the kicks dip down into the concave. Not bad though for using what you had

It snapped because it wasn’t solid they could’ve have waited for about 48 hours for it to be solid
You have to use half vaneers going horizontal and half going vertical
That wood veneer was paper thin lol.

What a shame!, the tricks are so toxic for skateboards and people. I preffer avoid all not necessary tricks, is the most intelligent decission. But, over all, congratullations for your work.

Beware, the quality of faboards is terrible and the support is leaving you with more cost. Many other good esk8 are out there.
one question to you guys - thinking about creating one for my small friend. So the base clamp doesnt need to be perfect smooth at the pushing surface ? 00:09 ? Im talkign about this glued pieces of chipboard/plywood
obviously yes the mold has to be nice and smooth before use it
DIY.. all you need is a band saw, belt sander, pillar drill and 3 friends to clamp it down before the glue dries
The original idea behind this video is that you buy a skateboard not make them.

When u noticed the "swaying" u could have mounted two aluminium rails. But that's not so popular these days. Or what once was popular was plastic rails.
What did you use to hold the cross-grain together. I'm assuming a thin tape which ends up in the lamination?

Love it what varnish do you use because I just sanded an old board and would like to put some finish on it
Try to change the position of the shorter cross grain veneers. So that the „sewed together“ part changes place every layer. If theyre all at the same spot thats a huge durability loss...

Cryo I guess not all boards are the same slightly longer nose than tail etc but usually have a similar space between trucks, if you have skated a few boards you may have a preference and pretty much have an educated guess where you want them.

its called veneers they are thin strips of wood...you would layer them together to make the board

Geo Huete I believe he meant adding a layer of fiberglass to the veneer. I've tried it before by adding a layer of fiberglass to the bottom of the board once all the layers of wood were pressed and dry and it definitely makes the board stronger but you gotta be carful not to put to much resin on or it'll come out really stiff. I made a longboard though, not a skateboard.

I think it is not enough clamping force/not enough glue. You should be gluing both sides of each sheet(it is not clear if you did that). You should see a lot of glue coming out the edges. I have been reading on how to make boards.

Ragaa you can't buy it you have do do it yourself but the good side about it it's you can make your proper concave!
Where is the easiest place to get veneer?
+Donovan Tong probably lowes or homedepot, they'll have the cheapest but it won't be the best quality if you want good quality veneer and don't mind spending some extra money on it go to a wood store, just go on google maps and look up one near you

Mr.roastyonutsack Jr. I know this is three years old but I wanted to comment that I've never seen veneer in Home Depot or Lowes in Northern California. Specialty wood working suppliers or online from skateboard material suppliers I would check those first.
