While you can defend takedowns, most ways to easily deal with them are prohibited. Now obviously khabib is a world class fighter under this ruleset, but he would not be nearly as succesful in a fight without rules. Also Nates points about his record is actually true. The most noteworthy opponent he had was a washed mcgregor, plus a few other ranked opponents. It gets overhyped cause it is 29-0. As a Judo Blackbelt (Nidan) with four year boxing experience i can beat 29 untrained guys with no problem, but that is simply not impressive. I would get beaten to death by some world class fighters, being as helpless as a baby.

He is somewhat right though. Khabib is incredibly limited in his fighting style and it only works that well cause of the ruleset. While you can defend takedowns, most ways to easily deal with them are prohibited. Now obviously khabib is a world class fighter under this ruleset, but he would not be nearly as succesful in a fight without rules.
Also Nates points about his record is actually true. The most noteworthy opponent he had was a washed mcgregor, plus a few other ranked opponents. It gets overhyped cause it is 29-0. As a Judo Blackbelt (Nidan) with four year boxing experience i can beat 29 untrained guys with no problem, but that is simply not impressive. I would get beaten to death by some world class fighters, being as helpless as a baby.
