My father in law was shot down as the pilot of a B24 and the Polish partisans got him out, at GREAT risk to themselves. He loved the Poles from that day on and would help any Polish person he knew that needed it. They are a proud and brave people, as are Ukrainians, obviously.

Thanks from Poland. Well, when you live somewhere for dozens of generations, your culture evolves to suit the conditions, and the conditions here are... well, let's say we've had a major war every two or three generations at best since the 1600s, and now it's been three generations without a major war... so it's due time, I guess.

@@user-sm5sj6mg2t It's a damn shame is what it is. But if it happens this time you are NOT alone in it. The old NATO, we got your back and you got ours is a good thing when there are prowling wolves around. Russia is no match for US/NATO, not EVEN CLOSE. :-)
If they come at any of the NATO countries they will very quickly find out how far below that weight class they really are. Lately, the Russians are just pissing me off, frankly. It's about time they had a good smack down. Just as the US or European NATO countries cannot invade Russia, so they cannot invade us (I am American, BTW).
As Denys Davidov always says, Cheers, my friend. His is one of the very good channels presented by Ukrainians, BTW, for Ukrainian war updates, if you are interested.
Operator Starsky is another, he is Ukrainian National Guard and covers topics a lot of others don't, like some of the incredibly stupid stuff that comes out on Russian TV (part of his job, as he says, unfortunately). I love his droll sense of humor, and a lot of varied topics.
If you want more, just ask. Stay safe!

Without seeming to be the slightest bit romantic, it is significant when British troops integrate with the Poles for their defence. In the Battle of Britain, the Polish airmen who flew alongside our own were essential for victory. There is a 70-odd year old historical inter-dependent brotherhood among our nations.
May God bless our own troops and the Polish troops in what they might be called to do.
I sincerely hope that the UK is already upping its production of Challenger 2 and all other components for our military capability. If not, we will run out!
ANY UK GOVERNMENT IN THE IMMEDIATE FUTURE THAT CUTS BACK ON OUR MILITARY CAPABILITY IS CLEARLY BETRAYING ITS PRIMARY DUTY TO THE PEOPLE OF THE UK!

If we're brothers, treat us as a part of the Western culture in which we've been for 1037 years with small exception for German-Russian occupation during the WWII and that Russian post-war occupation in the years of 1945-1989 that crushed our economy :D Just half-joking, I'm aware you're not responsible for that, it needs some change in collective thinking. Tbh we also hate when someone claims that we're situated in Eastern Europe and prefer 'Central Europe' (Imo it's more geographically accurate). I guess it's because the word 'Eastern' has strong connotation with Russia in that case.

Like all the lands that the Soviet Union/Russia has annexed - some others are parts of Ukraine, about 10% of Finland, part of Georgia, part of Moldova, the Kuril Islands of Japan - I would like to see Russia kicked out of them all.

The British army’s quality is superb.
There’s just not enough of it.
Traditionally, as an island nation, we have relied on sea power (and then AirPower) as our main defence assets. However, whenever something kicks off on the continent it does require us to have a bigger army. 70k personnel and the inability to field a single armoured division is just not enough.
Of course, a bigger army means a bigger slice of the budget and armies are personnel heavy which is the biggest bit of your overheads (as in all business) the navy and the RAF are equipment expenditure heavy but less so for ongoing personnel costs.

I am not sure if your aware but the Polish pilots were without doubt the most aggressive during the battle of Britain. They had suffered during the defence of Poland in inferior planes....flying with Spitfires and Hurricanes they were hungry for payback. This is illustrated when their airfield was fogged in and you couldn't see more than a few metres. The fighters were therefore ordered to remain grounded.....The engines of German bombers were heard passing overhead. Two Polish Pilots knew they could get the fighters up, so they defied orders, took off in next to zero visibility, got above the fog, chased and shot down the Luftwaffe bombers and then landed at a different airfield until the fog at their own cleared. I have no doubt they got a thorough bollocking from the RAF for disobeying orders followed by a quiet smile and well done from their Commanding Officer. The contribution of the Polish Pilots in the Battle of Britain will never be forgotten, I have frequented the same pub where many of your pilots lodged on many occasions which to this day has a model Spitfire on a pole in its Gardens. The official Polish War Memorial is a couple of miles down the road in Northolt. Hopefully the current catastrophe in Ukraine will end soon.

NLAW & Javelin have their own niche. The UK uses both. Javelin has more range and is reloadable but is twice as heavy as NLAW so you use those on vehicles to create mobile rangy tank destroyers. Great for 8 man sabre squadrons like SAS squads using Supacat HMT 400 vehicles or the US equivalent with SEAL squads. The NLAW's are a squad level system that are cheap, quick to use, light and good for shorter ranges e.g. ambushes with light infantry. In the event of a war, you'd probably find the US and others would use the same setup

Lol, the best comments on this video - "Anything Russia touches just downgrades," and "Russia's magic touch everything turns to garbage." It's too true and a real shame. I visited Russia in the early 2000s before the Georgia invasion. Russia was becoming an international tech hub and was seeing a cultural revitalization. Then, Putin began stealing money from western financial institutions operating in Russia and chased it out. It has been nothing but a long downhill slog to Mordorism. Putin traded in a legacy of reformation and modernization for tyranny, oppression, and corruption. Russia could have been great, but now it's the failed State we've all come to hate.

    • @StrawHat83
      @StrawHat83 2 роки тому

@RoBo MAc Depends on the Russian and how you define "the same." A significant minority of Russians are Western thinking, anti-imperialism, and pro-freedom. Unfortunately, the majority are govern-me-harder-daddy, strongman followers who have become so nationalistic they are borderline (or full-blown) the group associated with such things. Take the toxic nationalism and add the openly advocated elimination, destruction, and denial of UA people, ethnicity, and culture - I find it hard to see the argument that "they are the same as us." (Of course, I'm attempting to navigate your generalization, but I think I've articulated my point.)

"They're mounted in Mastiff at the moment, so we can kind of use them in the same way we would use warrior"
Translation: we haven't appropriate kit so we're making do with whatever we have.
"So when we come out to -unintelligible, presumably some exercise name- they'll be mounted in the back of warrior as well so that's a nice hybrid"
Translation: Even for the big exercise we still won't have decent vehicles that can keep up with (sort of) modern IFV's such as Warrior
"They provide a lot of close combat assistance that we wouldn't necessarily be able to provide ourselves" oh, why is that then? You are infantry aren't you? With antitank weapons, right?
" because we can't really dismount from this platform"
    Translation: It's a bloody death-trap.
"We're putting out a frontage so that all of the armour that we're working with can operate behind us and that gives them a huge amount of flexibility and freedom"
Translation: We are the meat shield for the valuable stuff.
"We will punch out before the main body and have a devastating impact on the enemy before the main armament is brought to bear"
He says this in front of a high, slow, under-armed vehicle designed to withstand impact from below while driving on roads/tracks. Well, I'm sure there will be a devastating impact the moment they show up in those things. The Russians will die laughing.
"This gives us a capability that they simply do not have"
Nonsense, inn these vehicles you are just as road-bound as the Russians.
Certainly a well-supported dispersed infantry/recce screen with strong anti-tank capability in advance of the armour is the required tactic.
And, of course, the drone spotting/recce screen that these days is absolutely necessary. Did I just not notice those because they were hidden among all the yellow paint or because they just weren’t there?
When will the MOD actually properly equip our people?
