This will be the final video on the 144001 series for a little while so that i can concentrate on some new ideas for the channel.

Today we test the buggy out on the stock gearing but with a 4s setup to see what it can achieve!
Last time on 3s we hit 54mph which again is a great speed to achieve out of such a small and lightweight buggy (1/14th Scale)

Guys this is just a bit of fun i dont intend to run this setup daily if anything i think i will run a higher KV motor and 60a ESC with 2s-3s pack running on 4s was just to see what we could achieve!
I am aware of many people doing this conversion and some even reaching speeds in excess of 100mph but this requires a lot more time, effort and sometimes custom work so my videos are aimed at the person looking to upgrade their buggy to get more speed and performance out of it.
Some have spent 5x or more the cost of the buggy to reach these insane speeds which sort of defeats the reason for buying a budget model in the first place.
I am not looking to set any records but i think the current record for these is sitting at 105mph. I doubt i will ever aim for that maybe 70mph with adjusted gearing and moved up to a higher KV Motor.
The motor mounts on these buggies do not allow you to be flexible when it comes to pinion choice so because the holes are pre drilled you are stuck using the stock gearing setup.

I know i am not the first to do this conversion and many of you have already done it but thought it would be nice to document my efforts for those of you who may be interested in doing this.
There are a few issues you will face along the way including the super glued / thread locked pinion grub screw and motor mount screws without heat you will almost certainly strip the heads.

I know its an old vid mate, but this is tidy!...well done man!....Im currently doing my 144001 upgrading it with the 957 motor mount and fitting the HPI WR8 Subaru Flux 3s system!! hahah!! everything fits now that we have the offset 2nd floor for the ESC.

I'm running a dirt cheap brushless system in mine. 5200 kv 3650 motor on 3s gave me 70mph. This is great content to watch.

What 3s battery do you recommend? Also, which servo is better, the Savox SH0265MG Micro Size Digital Servo 15g or the JX 1181 servo?

Those just fit in the battery location but you will need a longer strap. Not sure if any larger would fit.
With the Savox it will be slightly smaller as you may have to do a little mod to secure it down like what i did in the part 2 build
The JX servo is an exact direct fit with no modification is also slightly more powerful and i still have one on order the only reason i went for the savox was because it has been on backorder for 2 months on banggood and i wasn't prepared to wait.

That’s awesome dude I have got 75mph on 5900kv motor on 2s stock gearing and planning on getting a 120a esc and putting a 3s pack in it
One way to avoid problems caused by body constraints is to not use one. Simply mask-off the tires & shocks and spray/brush the rest with attractive colors in imaginative patterns.

Mate it's a rocket! Managed to dial down the steering rate on my sanwa mx6 in the end 🤣. Very happy with the achieved speed on stock gears. Will leave this for a while now as you know I'm working on some new stuff for the channel. But will definitely go back to it in the coming months maybe even build a 100mph one. Think the record is 105 which is insane.

However, I have one question: You used the original ratio 27T/44T, and an original motor mount with the 4 holes (550 motor) together with a brushless 3650 motor. Does this work without changing the motor mount? Wltoys uses a different ratio, a different motor mount (6 holes) and a 2845 motor for the brushless version 2.0.
Before I buy the wrong parts, it would be great if I were sure.
I have two Wltoys 124018. One I improved with 80 A brushed crawler ESC, 3.5 kg Emax metalgear servo and a Dumbroc receiver (gyro). and controller, because these parts are cheap scrap on the factory car. Now it is perfect, good brushed systems also have advantages. I would like to convert the second 124018 to a brushless system. You have shown here wonderfully how this can be done cost-effectively, and made the necessary tests 2,3,4S for us. Thank you very much!!!
they stock mount on a 124018 fits 3650 motors with the original gear ratio , but you can also get the brushless V2 motor + new mount + new gear combo for 30$

Yes great video I’m on my 2nd 144001 as the 1st one I just pulled outta the box and ran it!! Not good I upgraded it with the metal parts not good either!! So I bought another 144001. I’ve the 1st one as a donor car for a few parts n I’ve started a new build with the contact foams Phat atak body and am still brushed but it is smoother and faster as I followed your 3 tips b4 you run it. It’s not even been on the road yet but I can tell it’s faster. It’s so smooth and quiet just on 2s. I want to go brushless can you pls 🙏 tell me the motor,esc and servo you are using please?? I think I’ve found a servo? But motor and esc is something I need to get right and there is so much weight in the standard 550brushed I have in it now that you can see and feel not much rebound on the back right swingarm. I don’t want a huge brushless can of coke sized motor in there 🤣 but just something along the lines you are running? 3650? I don’t wanna go right up to a 4600kv or 5200 as I think these motors are too much 4 this car? I would b greatful of any input off you when you’ve time pls? Regards Andy 👍
Hey Andy im glad you enjoyed the video! So servo wise i would say a JX1181MG or something similar would be a good choice i know some Emax servos are a direct fit but not sure on model numbers. 3650 would be ideal on this maybe up to a 4200kv or similar if you intend to run 2s something like that would work fine with a 60a ESC.
@@beyondRC thanks for your input and yes I’ve ordered the JX1181MG servo there a straight swap from the stock one. I think I’m going with a Gool RC 3650 and 60amp ESC and 4200kv will cost about £30-£40 for them both I did a costing and coz I’ve an old 144001 I’m gonna take the mount and pinion off that one and just replace the motor on it with the one that comes out of the new 144001 the contact foams were £15 and I found a great tip off @MeHim RC bigger bearings I think there 7x4x2.5mm? And we’re £5 and stop the wheel wobble. Two either side on both the front drive shafts and one either side on the outside of the back cups got the phat atak body and all for about £140 which is still cheaper than the brushless EMB and it will be all my own work. I will catch you on your next video 🙏 for your help 😎
@@beyondRC does the stock pinion off the 144001 go straight on a 3.175mm drive shaft of a 3650 brushless motor pls? Say a Gool RC 3650, 4300kv......I tried getting the pinion off the 550 brushed stock motor 🔥. Used a Bunsen burner lighter n got the motor mount screws out but the grub was not happening 🔥🙈 Rounded it with the Allen key!!! Bought the mount n new pinion for £6.93 off E-Bay, easier 🥵. Just wanna now that it will fit n mesh nice with the brushless motor b4 I buy that? I would appreciate any help? Thanks 👍
Yes it does its a straight swap. I have no idea why they use glue instead of threadlock it's very annoying! Good luck with the conversion 😁😁
@@beyondRC so happy 🤣 I can order the motor and esc now, I’m going with the Gool rc 3650 ,4300kv I’ve the jx servo on order aswell n did the tail yesterday on the build and cut the body. I’m not sure I’ve so many options? Velcro along the stock black side skirt and a strip with on the body to grip and it would be solid? And I could use 2 body posts aswell? Where did you get the wheels and foams? I've gotten mine to 59mph with a 35$ brushless esc combo and 5$ steering servo from amazon on 3s. Thanks

i hope this is not a stuppid question but how do you know when the lipo is discharged?
the ESC will cut out. This is known as LVD (low voltage detection)

Cheers mate! Considering stock gearing im happy with that speed! Higher kv motor, gearing and few other bits this thing will fly. Plans for it in the coming months and ill have to find a runway! 🤣

A few basic screwdrivers and a decent set of hex drivers and you will be good to go :)

This is an awesome mod. I recently got my 124019 to 105kph on 3s. Not sure I could get away with it on 4s though... maybe. I have a brushless 3650 kk series surpasshobby 3600kvmotor, and a 60A surpass hobby esc.
Sounds about right, I got my 144001 to 99,7kph on 3s with a 3300kv motor!

What off road tires do you recommend?
Have to be honest have only tried the stock tires and the foams so difficult to say. You have given me an idea for a future video though maybe researching and trying out some off road tires :)

I got my Jato motor upgrade today: Speed was above 200 MPH but could not find the GPS after the run... neither the car.
I do not recommend Jato motors unless you place a tracker on the car.

yes if you decide to go brushless! you won't be able to use the stock servo as the stock system it has a 5 wire system and pretty much all receivers have 3 wires.

All you speed run guys seem to go about it a rather odd way... Let's take a go cart and try to fit a 1000hp hellcat drivetrain in it. Instead of a 1000hp lightweight say Hayabusa engine on it.
Guaranteed the lighter option will be faster.
Brushless motors , for the most part shouldn't be reved over 60,000rpms, and with a vehicle that small, you don't need 540 sized torque. A 380 size motor (@28mm) would have ample torque.
But back to the RPM issue. A 5700kv motor on 3s will be spinning faster than it should and you risk destroying the motor.
I guess my point is, my Losi mini 8 with a 2035 4500kv motor on 3s is faster than your car. I don't get the "big motor" craze.
