honestly did not enter this video expecting to watch the whole thing
but here we are
grindcore !
goes down like butter, baby
nor did I expect to be perfectly still and captivated the entire time!
time traveler: sneezes
time line: ERIC - "T2JD"
and Cavs is off making shiny disks with cool colors for Eric
the same man once said in a Q&A double kick would be something very hard that he would want to achieve, now look at him!!
I think about that interview all the time. Such a cool moment getting to see the band grow as musicians!
I think it was a “what’s in my bag” interview and he mentions Motörhead’s drummer.
@@Timoteisespor2011yep! filthy phil
I was just thinking about this too mans is insane
The thing about double bass pedals is that once you’ve conquered the hi-hat, you just need to tweak your left foot slightly to move like your right foot. The muscle is already there.
When they played this at the Chunky Shrapnel screening the entire audience went absolutely mental at the announcement of CAVS new album, standing ovation and thunderous applause. it was pretty incredible, and so well deserved. I spoke to him about it afterward and he said it was pretty overwhelming, but man that had to feel pretty great
The title drop was mad!
Every new word that came up on screen the audience just exploded
album?? did i miss something !
Man that sounds glorious.
@@toberle9468 self titled album
That hi hat and double bass drum action... he should be promoted from CAVS to CALVES
HAH!
Underrated comment here.
He would be CALVES but Eric already took the L
the fucking endurance and discipline one has to keep that double bass pattern while doing the insane shit hes doing is astounding, praise cavs he is god
Yeah he is incredibly talented goddamn and underrated, Gizzard too, I understand their authenticity I think they are a great band with great musicians
Cavs will go down in history as one of the greatest drummers in australian history
man in history period. This dude is a machine
hell, maybe even the greatest in Antarctica!
It’s every drummer’s dream to have a video of them shot like this. Congrats on living the dream and amazing job sir Cavs
8:58 that look, when you pour your body, mind and soul into something. Go Cavs.
Imagine him playing this live at a KGATLW concert, or even alone
He played a solo similar to this one with eric at one concert. It's not the same but at the end you can notice similar arragements to this drum solo. It's realle close

@@pasli4268 yo i was there pog. woulda love to have seen cavs go full ham but having eric and stuff may have held him back a little. i would have said time was a constraint, but considering they pushed their time to the very limit that night (12am curfew, they very nearly hit it lol), id say that didnt matter too much aha
he actually does solos like this when they play KGLW live
Inhabits all four dimensions. No wonder he’s a spider in catching smoke. Amazing
Best comment
Damn 😤 Gizz have arguably one of the most talented drummers in the world.
And Walky jake also.
When Cavs hits the drums, I say "yes."
That's a lot of "yes"s
They screened this ahead of the chunky shrapnel screening in Melbourne and Jesus Christ seeing this shit on the big screen was breathtaking!
Jealous! its breathtaking on my laptop so its hard ti imagine
I like the way he hits those drums
Is this a Death Grips reference
He flickity flams those drums
They like the way he hits them.
Bam Bam
Holy shit, that double kick drum technique over that long a time is seriously impressive. I watched the whole thing with a smile. Also, congrats on the upcoming baby dude! Everyone in this comments section is hoping everything goes well.
Honestly, it's more brute force than technique. Doesn't make it less impressive tho
Sounds very Ginger Baker esque… 👌
You guys obviously have a very limited awareness of the drumming scene. It's ok to like a drummer from your favourite band. But if you're impressed by 16th notes on the bass drum, then you've demonstrated your ignorance of drumming as a whole.
Cavs literally deserves to be remembered as one of the best drummers of all time. Just an everlasting force that drives the whole band into a neverending abyss of music and creation. I'm so glad to be able to experience such phenomenal musicianship inside one band. Cheers Michael!!
those acrylics sound so good tuned up
@Joshua R as you can tell
8:36 Great sound recording, JOE Walker
Come a long way from the Gamma Knife solo
His work with odd time signatures, the ability to make such complex stuff so danceable and groovy; this man will undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest drummers in history. Realized at the end i had turned the volume all the way up but still tried to turn it louder!
I'm so proud of him
A percussion album! Cavs just made me think of percussions as a much deeper and expressive instrument. Thanks for that man.
wish i’d been shown this day 1 of music class, would be 100% motivated to learn. Phenomenal lad
To me, Cavs started as the weakest member of the band in terms of outward musical ability (not that the band prides themselves as elite musicians or anything). The 2 drummer train schtick was amazing and got people talking about the band but it was a sign that the rhythm section needed more support. Overtime Cavs has been the reflection of the bands growth and change, as the band grew in sounds and ideas, so has Cavs talent been nurtured and he has grown through (I believe) continuous care, discipline and training. He is now indispensable to the Gizz sound and vibe.. I remember him saying he couldn't double pedal bass like motorhead in an interview, and now look at them playing thrash w/ 2xpedal, such an inspiration! To me, seeing that journey has made Cavs the heart of the band. The band gave him the space to grow and, as he grows the band grows. Its like the band had a child and we witnessed its growth. Its hard to define what I am trying to say but look at his curls they do wonders for me!
Well said, and let's be honest, the heart of any band is the drummer, they just normally don't get appreciated. Great to see he is. He's one of my biggest influences for sure!
Frankly disagree, having two drummers is SIGNIFICANTLY harder than having one. I would consider it a testament of a strong rhythm section.
Hey @@rliberati750 you are welcome to your own opinion :)
Don't think I've ever lost myself in a drum solo before, but wow, this is it. It's gonna be a long wait for the album now.
doing what the universe was made for
Baker & Bonzo would be proud… or maybe just indifferent. Nice work Cavs! 🤘🏻
Baker would be indifferent but that's an indictment on him
Baker sucked
And Billy Cobham!
Bakers style was unreal, and he was a true musician, but man the dude was an asshole!
Imagine if Cavs covered the A Saucerful of Secrets drum section, man that would be insane.
Cavs such a great drummer, the energy he puts when playing live is beyond words!
The bing bong bing bong bing and the dukkadukkadukkadukkadukkadukkadukka parts were my favorite
Those 7/4 to 6/8 switches were mind-blowing. Wow.
Agreed
I'm proud of cavs ❤️ i saw him grow on KG since 2015 when i discovered the band also i was there when he did an interview on amoeba about learning the double bass drum, later he and KG released my fav album, infest the rat's nest
Telling my dad this is a secret homage to him because he used to drum and the nickname I gave him growing up was terminator
I am so incredibly amped to see Cavs breaking out in a major way
My favorite part of the video is when Cavs was on screen
Edit:seeing Cavs do double bass pedals almost made me tear up. I’m so proud of him :)
Cavs finally unleashed his full power
Nobody:
J.K Simmons in a aussy accent: Not quite my tempo mate
Drumming was absolutely incredible. Also loved the film. That ending was fantastic too, all that energy needs breathing room afterwards. The silence really made the music louder
Neil peart of my generation! Killing it Cavs!!
Epic. Love modern jazz/metal on a retro sounding kit/cymbals. King Gizz have come such a long way from where they started and i rate Cav as being one of the best in the biz, what a legend.
No wonder Eric lost his kick drum privileges.
XD
Oof
CAVS 🤘 CAVS 🤘 CAVS 🤘puttin his heart n soul into his craft ❤️
Love getting to see Cavs grow and improve over the years. It’s like it’s all been leading up to this. Can’t wait to listen :)
that's insane
I really hope I can meet him one day and thank him for how inspiring he is as a drummer as one myself. His ability to grow from the beginning of KG is amazing. I can’t wait to see where ends up in his career, and I’m super stocked for the album!
Same though
my new favorite video actually amazing and his face at the end pure passion
I need your clothes, your boots, and your drum sticks.
Spot on T2JD comment!
Cavs is the drummer. He just is.
coming back to this to say that his solo at redrocks was some of the best drumming ive ever seen
the intro with the tuned drums reminds me of fmb isntrumental so sick cavs :))) !!!
This is Fletcher’s tempo
Once you start watching, you just can't stop! This is incredible
that was intense! its like watching those air acrobat dudes swinging around without a safety net
PHC did it again. sick drums, sick filming.
Cavs is definitely one of the best rock drummers if not drummers in general of our time.
Cavs is the perfect drummer for Gizz
Hey PCH Films, I followed you guys for Amyl & The Sniffers, and am sure glad I did! Thanks for introducing me to some great new artists - like CAVS! 👍🏽
Bro check out King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard!
remember the days when cavs only had a five piece drum set? he’s all grown up now
One of the best drum performances I've ever seen, really
he’s so fucking good, i’m so proud of him. this was both motivating and astonishing to watch and listen
Yes. Just yes.
Damn, this is genuinely captivating. This drum solo tells a story and has melody and musicality to it. I rarely get entranced by drum solos because usually it’s just people showing off. This was fantastic. Good shit Cavs!
incredible! Can't wait for the album!! Fantastic camera work too. One take circling the entire time. I've gotten dizzy doing that after just a minute. Big kudos to all involved.
So good. Inspiring performance really, makes me want to practice
So nice to hear...An homage to Terry Bozzio in the beginning segments, it is lovely to hear drums sound real instead of that awful facehugger compressed sounds that is popular, proper "boingy" drums here!! Brilliant endurance and a great concept, the cymbals sounds fab!!!!
Incredible, i'm so curious to hear the rest of the album, as a King Gizz fan, I had no idea it existed! I want to jam along to this asap
I'm a guitarist/singer, and so never really watched many drumming videos like this before - seriously inspiring to see the instrument used in such a great way solo, it really tells a story, the same way a good guitar solo can.
7/8 is always a joy to hear.
I'm so grateful for drummers.
go off king
Time 2 Jam Dudes
This is fucking crazy, great drummer
Incredible, your control is unMATCHED
Great work by everyone showcasing the master at work!
so much melody!! hahaha love the blast beats
Insanely fine tuned drums if I may say as a drummer myself. Like, holy drum heads…
YEAAHHHHH THIS IS EPIC
Phc and flightless are really doing gods work
My smile only continued to grow the further the clip progressed. Beautiful.
Day 2 of watching this. I think I will need to get used to my ears harbouring the corners of my mouth. My smile is permanent.
Cavs really caught in his element here! A gentleman and a scholarly drummer. Amazing.
Everything about this is crisp as a fresh iceberg lettuce.
I just love him.
absolutely legendary
He's a total beast on the bangers. Machine time Cavs
What an absolute unit of a drummer. Cavs 🔥
my favorite part was when he played the drums
this is pretty impressive. He's really gotten better in terms of exploring aspects of what drums and percussion can be in a year like 2021
Jesus christ this man is good.
easily my main drums reference, you're a god cavs, keep doing your great work!
easily one of the best shot and recorded drum solos out there, production is amazing on this.
Nothing but love for this video.
I never heard of you before but I really enjoyed it. Awesome dynamics
Modified Glyn Johns drum mic technique! Those drums sound fantastic and Cavs playing is impeccable - finesse and explosive power under control. And this video is beautifully shot...
This gives me "The great vizier's garden party" vibes
INSANE!!!! That double kick sequence is absolute madness!!!........as expected for KGLW genius drummer...
Idk why I find this so satisfying to watch
Fantastic. I want it more.
I’d love to see a drum battle between CAVS and Morgan Simpson from Black midi
I like how at 5:35 you can hear "K-G-L-W"
every drummers wet dream
