SÜHNOPFER, hailing from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France, return with their most fully realised release to-date of blasting, emotive, edge-of-seat Baroque Black Metal.
"Nous sommes d'Hier", the band's 4th full length since formation in 2001, finds sole member and multi-instrumentalist Ardraos continuing to explore a medieval universe in his quest to restore the tarnished glory of the Bourbons - marching between the Middle Ages and the modern era to weave compulsive tales of dark times, remembered legends and places that resonate with the death of an age.
Using master musicianship and tightly honed songwriting SÜHNOPFER intertwine frantically flowing drums, ardent volleys of shapeshifting classical guitar melodies and desperately impassioned vocals. The album incorporates choral themes from Baroque composers Charpentier and Cherubini, and features a guest spot for Vindsval (BLUT AUS NORD) providing choirs/lead guitar to the exceptional "Sermon sur le Trépassement".
The record concludes with "Le Bal des Laze", a cover version of a late '60s song from French chanson artist Polnareff. Performed originally as a funeral march, the track lends itself perfectly to a Black Metal adaptation and epitomises SÜHNOPFER's sense of daring as a living emanation from a boisterous past.

This is really, really French. You guys get what I mean? It's got that Frenchness about it which somehow makes it fucking brilliant, in a slightly arrogant way.

très bonne idée de reprise.c'est tout à fait dans la trajectoire de Suhnopfer.C'est un des rares morceaux de polnareff que j'apprécie justement pour son coté dramatique et grandiloquant.Bien vue.
