"if you never find that breaking point for a painting, then you'll never know how good it might be" Wow. Amazing advice. Something I struggle with. Getting to a point where I fall in love with where it's at and I don't want to screw it up by doing anything else to it.

THIS! After years of designing on a computer i miss the security of "undo." More often than not I fail to push thing further out of fear that I will ruin it.

Good looks tend to fade out but the mind never does, it only grows. The face is not a picture of itself, it's the mirror of it's mind. That's why good portrait art at all times needs to capture the soul of it's subject. Something that starts to happen in this painting of a man. I especially love the eyes in this portrait. It's often in the eyes, the eyes of people reflect the desires of their passions. Eyes in artworks have something special, they often say more then words can. Eyes are very similar to drawings in that regard, if you can say it in words there's no need to draw it...
I guess art is a reflection of what we allow ourselves to see.

I literally justed started painting! I'm doing my second piece. And I started binge-watching art and paint-related videos until I pass out in the middle of the night. It's so fascinating. And I'm starting to realize that I might have missed an opportunity, in college, when I decided I didn't wanna listen in art history classes. The whole thing about movements and styles is just getting closer and closer to my heart and I just feel like feeding off of it for days nonstop.

@1:09 Does anyone know how a tracing of an image can be done with Adobe PS as shown here. Which layers/tools should be used etc. Is a graphic tablet required/recommended or can it simply be done with an ordinary mouse?

Joshua your paint is pretty cool. Although I want to comment on the statement that says that your painting should always go further and try to see what’s up by adding up layers and processes depending on your thoughts of the moment. Well about this, I think that it should be done on a number of different artworks, and each time see how far it can go in the process, our of the first stroke.
