Jeff, you obviously have a wealth of whitetail hunting wisdom... but I’m a person before a hunter...you seem like a very high quality person by the way you treat people. I want you to know I’m gonna do my best to patronize your partners. Thank you for your values...namely the way you treat people.

Jeff, I own 600 acres in the Poconos in Pa. I’ve hired a wildlife and forestry biologist to develop a plan and we just started harvesting some timber for a regeneration cut with intent to fund trails and food plots. After watching some of your videos I’d love to chat about some things and I’m concerned we may not be doing the right things. I’d be willing to pay for an hour of your time. This is my first ever UA-cam comment so I’m not really sure how else to reach out. Hope this works. Thanks

Without a doubt our land could use screening ! Open hardwoods, alfalfa, stand access, bedding and everything else is in need of it. To think of the wasted years and potential by not working the land for the wildlife. We take amazing bucks but we could do SO much better. Thanks Jeff !

Took you advice a while back. Thank you. Seen 5 bucks this morning. To nice rack bucks. It will probably be a 2 weeks I go back. Only a 1/4 mile from my house. I go about every 2 weeks if the weather is right. The neighbors have 9 people hunting 2000 acres. They are always in there during hunting season. I’m glad. I kill more big bucks in two years. Then they do in 5 years. Same landscape. I just take took your advice a while back. An let them put all the pressure on them. They run them straight to my 300. An I leave them alone. I will ride the edge every few days. Never go in. Expect when I’m hunting during hunting season.

I think a video about reseeding an Egyptian Wheat screening would be helpful. Do you remove the old stalks? Do you broadcast into them and cut them down over them? Etc.

Great content! Your advice helped me bag a 15 pt 5 and 1/2 year old last year! Quick question, I frost/snow seeded my switch grass into over 75% dirt in February, i had been weed killing the strip for a couple years, I applied simazine first week in april and did a early may 2 4 d and round up combo. I was thinking by now I would see some seed because corn is starting to pop but not seeing much. Any chance you planted any this year and know about where the growing should be? I live in Winona so same growing zone. Maybe I was too late with the simazine? Thanks again!

Would you please have a segment on dealing with trespassers and poachers how to discourage them.
I've been plagued by them for two years now, have had no luck keeping them out.they are sneaky and very experience at poaching and tresspassing. They are very good at evading cameras.
These night vision scopes on a crossbow greatly increase poaching!!

Hey Jeff, great video. We have a 50 acre parcel with a public bike trail (old RR grade) running the entire length( about 1,500ft). It is about 40ft wide, so it does get some sunlight, but not full as you would in an open field setting. Is there any type of screening that could handle moderate sunlight?

I was going to plant a 1/2 acre food plot, but it's in the woods and I wanted to plant a cover crop soon then my fall crop in late summer. I just don't know what crop to plant in order to smother the weeds because I seen that buckwheat won't grow in the shade. Love you videos, great information

Hey Jeff! Do you also seek out naturally screened areas on public land? I have been finding with my heavy scouting with all this down time that crossing creeks/etc. in southern Michigan has led me to more what I would interpret as fall deer sign. Less fresh sign because these are thick areas and like you said they don't seek those out this time of year. I guess seeking edge habitat serves as screening in a way when you add up the layers of edge? Thanks as always!

Solid info, I have a few questions tho. I'm going to be planting Egyptian wheat in the very near future for the first time. Im planting roughly 8000-9000sq feet. How many pounds of seed will I need and what setting on the earth way ev-n-spred do you recommend? Also, what kind of fertilizer regimen do you recommend? I'm thinking 3ish pounds will get the job done?

Hey Jeff- I have flash flooding and moving water over my 2 acre field right now, that I frost seeded in switchgrass in January. Should I be concerned that new seedlings and seeds that haven’t germinated yet, are getting washed out? Or with the freezing and thawing are the seeds in deep enough??

Jeff, Would someone be well advised to alter their screening strategies based on the level of predators within their particular hunting ground? Is this a consideration when planning screenings? I believe I have heard this mentioned on videos, but I cannot recall details. Thanks

Jeff, on a long and narrow plot, say a power line or gas pipeline, how often would you "section" it off? Ours is 200 yards long by 15-20 yards wide. Am I wrong to think about splitting this up a bit?

How do you manage your lime and fertilizer needs. I am putting in 2 acres. I will not have access to Heavy equipment. I’m Currently using a 2750 Earthway hand spreader. I bought pelletized lime and cast the amount for 2 acres they called for on the bags versus 4000 pounds of the ag powder lime. Our plans our Winter Rye. Only equipment is a tank sprayer. Packer max. And earthway spreader. Is it absolutely necessary to get a soil sample?

    • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751

Hi Danny! Often Switchgrass is the cheapest, fastest and most effective if you have full sunlight. Conifers are great with full sun and hinge cut blocking if in the woods. Really just depends...no real best method, just the method that fits the best.
