    Way back in 1977, I was a Junior in High School in Northeast Arkansas. I shared an Art Class with one of the prettiest girls in our small school. She was a Senior and she drove her Dad's car which was a Mustang II on the weekends. We became good friends in school and a month or so later after school started she was up town driving in her Dad's Mustang II. She stopped me and asked if I wanted to ride around with her. I did, and we talked almost non-stop. I was very much attracted to her and at the end of the night, I asked her out on a date. She accepted and we started dating. After about four months of dating, I was always trying my best to sleep with her, but she wouldn't. Finally, I told her I could not go on like we were doing. I told her how I felt about her and that I had fallen in love with her. Later that same night, we made love for the first time at my Parent's home. We dated strongly for the next year, then she graduated in 1978 from High School and left for college. This killed our relationship. She attended a Christian college and was saved in the church during this time. Because of this, she broke up with me. Claiming I was too much of a temptation to Sin. All this broke my heart, and my entire Senior year I barely saw her. However, she did attend my Graduation. Afterwards, we talked and went riding around uptown and talking about the good days. She told me her true feelings about me, that she still loved me, but I was not much into church at 17 years old. Later that same night, we made love for the last time, and she returned to college. I only spoke to her a couple of times after that night. In 1982, I joined the USAF and she married a guy from her church. To this day, I think of her every day. She was my first real love. When, I saw your Mustang II all these memories came back to me, very emotional. Thank you for sharing this video. Her Dad's Mustang II was Silver as well, just not as fancy. I will never forget that first night we rode around in that car, nor will I ever forget her!

      Yes, me too. Please pay atention to the curved shape wich runs from top to rear. It is same as actual Mazda MX5, (MIATA) similar also the classic 1968 Corvette.
      Notice Mustan II : it starts curve up where the front wheel, later door, curved down, trunk curved up again.

    So glad to see one of these now-rare seventies cars preserved! Usually, enthusiasts only save the performance models, and performance cars weren't a big thing in the mid-70s. Plush appointments were the thing, like on this car: landau roofs, opera windows, standup hood ornaments, velour interiors, the works. Cool car.

    • @NeighborhoodCarReviews
      @NeighborhoodCarReviews  9 років тому

      +colibri1 Yeah. It's a real time capsule. We have it in a garage here on in the building along with a 1989 Ford Bronco II XLT with 30,000 miles, a 1976 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible with 70,000 miles and a 1986 Nissan/Datsun 380ZX.

    I,m a Mustang ll fan. I've only owned 2 of them in my life time and my first car I ever had was a 1977 Mustang ll and I loved that thing. I was 15 years old and it had the 2.3L in it and now I'm a proud owner of an (Early 1974) Mustang ll. They were built from September 1973 to November 1973 before they went back to design the new 74-78 model. From all my research I could only fined 8 of these models left in the USA. It needs a lot of work and parts are hard to find But I'm still trying to get her finished.

    I graduated in 1986 in North East Arkansas, shout out to @rockbay79, and this was my first car. It was the silver Karmen Ghia but mine was a 4-speed standard and did not have the luggage rack. It is funny looking through these comments at how many people had this as a first car. My dad paid 500 dollars for it at the time and I thought I was in heaven. I really miss that car and one day I hope to have another one.

    Say what you want about the '74 ~ '78 Mustangs, but they looked (I repeat, LOOKED) way more like a Mustang than the '79 ~ '93 Fox Bodies EVER did. The wide-open grille, the Pony in the grille, the 3-bar taillights, the simulated "C"-scoops, all styling cues that say "Mustang". The Fox Bodies had none of theses things.

    My first car was a yellow 76 Mustang II coupe with the V6 and four speed manual trans, bought for $1,800 in 1981, a few months after I got my license. It was a great little car and I still miss it sometimes.

    • @NeighborhoodCarReviews
      @NeighborhoodCarReviews  5 років тому

      +ddavejb This Car gets a lot of hate, but it saved the Mustang. It was exactly what it needed to be during that time, and it really paved the way for the next-Gen Fox Body Mustang. While it’s not the best, this Ghia Edition was an exceptional example and worth filming. It’s a much older style review, and I wish I had the opportunity to revamp the review to how I do it now.

    Ford was very creative during this austere time. They needed to come up with a solution to meet market demand, with minimal investment. To their credit they managed to do a lot with these little cars. Sure they look like dressed up Pintos in many regards. However, once you dive into the real meat of the second generation Mustand, you see there are hardly any components borrowed from the Pinto. What really turned some off was using what looks like a modified Pinto for the Cobra. Consumers see the Mustang II as a modified Pinto as a result. What most don't know is the wheelbase is actually longer than the Pinto. Thus most components were not fluid between the two badges.
    Could Ford have done more to blur the lines between the subcompact Pinto and the compact Mustang II? Yes. But sales were strong for the duration of the second generation Mustang. Few modifications allowed for maximum profits while maintaining strong sales beyond the oil crisis.

    This is probably one of just a handful of silver Mustangs of this era with the original paint. All the Cords of this era with silver paint color would get sun faded and then shed the finish to the primer. There was actually a class action lawsuit against Ford by a group of unhappy owners.
    I had several Mustang II over the years and liked all of them except for the 4 cylinder version. They were well built and nicely finished. The interiors were much more luxurious than the earlier Mustang ever had. The biggest downside to the Mustang II was the bumper design. It was heavy and almost impossible to repair and very expensive to replace. In rust belt states the rear bumpers would rust out. Under the eurathane that was bonded to the bumper bar and the whole thing would droop and then fall off..

      +CAT_MIX_A_LOT Gaming It’s an important car to Ford during that time. Unfortunately with the Oil Crisis, Small, underpowered Cars were what made money for them at that time. The Mustang II was very popular and a great seller and with the decline of the muscle cars, that’s what it was. I actually like the Mustang II, but that’s just me.

      I say Ford was very creative during this austere time. They needed to come up with a solution with minimal investment. To their credit they managed to do a lot with these little cars. Sure they look like dressed up Pintos in many regards. However, once you dive into the real meat of the vehicle you see there are hardly any components borrowed from the Pinto. What really turned many off was using what looks like a modified Pinto for the Cobra. Consumers see the Mustang II as a modified Pinto as a result. What most don't know is the wheelbase is actually longer than the Pinto. Could Ford have done more to blur the lines between the subcompact Pinto and the compact Mustang II? Yes. But sales were strong for the duration of the second generation Mustang. Few modifications allowed for maximum profits while maintaining strong sales beyond the oil crisis.

      Yeah. It’s not for everyone, for sure. I just thought when I recorded the video, how cool it was that it’s in such pristine shape and wanted to share with others! Love seeing classics still in amazing condition.
