Fantastic photography, music. Truely professional Monika. Hollywood calling!! You really portrayed the architecture, nostalgia and vibe. I want to go there.
Class, thank you,I am retiring early next year and hope to move to Tenerife,as an Irishman I know Oscar Wilde’s father went to Tenerife to spend quality time in North Tenerife, there are gardens there today, same place he stayed managed owned by a quality man.Top Class,Thank you,Derek.
Another wonderful vlog, Freddie and Monika. Counting down the days before heading to Puerto de la Cruz on New Year’s Eve. I’ve heard that Agatha Christie stayed in Puerto and there are the Agatha Christie steps near to Playa Martianez heading up to the La Paz area of the town. Keep up with your great work. Loved the Datsun!
Hi both! Yeah, my dad had the 120Y hatch back. Quite nippy as I remember, and finished in an Aston Martin esc gun metal grey. Lovely! Another very enjoyable video guys. Well done.
I am old enough to remember the Datsun 120 and that one you found was in great condition. It also looked like it had its original hub caps. Great videos keep them coming. 😀👍
Hi both, thanks for the tenerife tour, i have never been. Will change that in future i hope. Its very interesting and beautiful. Savvy Uk car buyers flocked to Datsun models for reliability and they were no more rotten than the fords/ vauxhalls/ renaults and citroens of their day. Thing is they did something about it. The chassis were copies of uk cars leaf springs and all but their engines as in Japanese motorcycles were so smooth and reliable and gearboxes like mk 2 fords, like butter. As a mature person i had several nissans and for the first time in my life as a poorer youth, i dint have to spend time and money on repairs. I also have had german british and japanese motorcycles. The japanese reliability wise do not have a competitor.
Yes I remember the Datsun 120Ys they had a lovely coupe model, all the rage in the 70s. We love Puerto de la Cruz haven’t been since 1979 that’s where we stayed on our honeymoon. Chickens and Pumpkins must be a local delicacy (chicken and pumpkin soup). The local dish was rabbit when we were there. Great vlog thanks for taking us with you, great to see you both back on the Bonne.
Awesome old character the buildings not you freddie 😀 love you choice of music history and wonderful coffee breaks👌 I’m 64 so can remember Datsun my dream car then was the Sport Datsun Z3000c😊 keep em coming awesome reviews
Now now Freddie, you were exaggerating slightly by saying its cold up here...can be cool at times but never cold 🤣.... and thank you and Monika so much for showing my lovely Puerto in such a good way....I love it here ❤
Fantastic video Freddie as usual best channel on here at the moment ! I am so shocked at the weather difference between north and south of the island wow Keep em coming pls.... high Monica great job as usual 👍🌞
Thanks Lee! Within the space of one hour ride, it can go from 30 degrees in Adeje to snow up Teide, or 14 degrees in the north east- it’s incredible!🥶🥵
The thing about Tenerife is the constant change in altitude, pop to the supermarket and it’s 5 degrees different! I’d take 16 degrees and surrounded by palm trees in the depth of the winter over 6 degrees and drizzle in the UK 😂
I really hope you are getting paid off the Tenerife tourist sport because you are doing a great job in selling the island fantastic almost makes me feel I want to go out there myself keep up the good work..
Freddie I remember these Datsuns on the road back in the 70s , they were the original Nissan brand . My first car was a mini and it was a choice between a Datsun Cherry . The Datsuns were a reliable car for the times . Great vlog again .
Love Monikas infectious chuckle. Great choice in music this week. I agree away from the tourist haunts you do get value for money. Enjoy your vehicle trips of the past, loads of character sadly cars of today are quite boring they tend to look much the same sadly. Hope you get to see share any old style bikes.
Really glad you enjoyed it Christopher! We just happen to not see many old bikes while filming, but I always have my eyes peeled🙂🏍 Completely agree- there’s something very special about the older cars👌🏻
Just come across your channel by accident. So glad I did. I’ve been following other vloggers on the island and now I can add you to my favourites to follow. You remind me of the Long Road with Ewan McGregor and Charlie
We had a light blue Datsun 120Y in the 70's CLS 28R was the reg. I loved Puerto de la Cruz when I visited around 6 years ago. It was November and around 20 deg. Also very cosmopolitan...
Hi Fred and Mon, I love your channel great photography and very informative and it’s great to see the sun as it’s dark and dreary here in the uk. I remember my sister in law had a Datsun cherry and yeah I’m old enough to remember all the old crocks that fascinate you over there, but it is good to see them in such good nick over there as they would be scrappers and wrecks if you managed to find one here eh? Keep up the good work both. 👍
Hello again Freddie and Monica. Woooow 😂😂😂 what memories you have made me relive seeing that Datsun 120Y. My father had one exactly the same color, but it was not a sw type. It had 4 doors and a short boot. Incredible 😮😮😮, the license plate of the car according to the application that I have installed on my mobile is from January 1, 1979 (it is 42 years and 10 months). I'm sorry to tell you that car has been restored. I remember that my father's car had sheet metal problems and I don't think it has held up so well these 42 and a half years, without going through a workshop. I am very happy that you continue to enjoy my island so much. 👏🏼👏🏼👌👌👌 I hope that you will soon also visit one of the towns considered "most beautiful in Spain" - Garachico. With its great volcanic history. The people that rose from the ashes, like the Phoenix. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🔟 I hope at some point I can see you on one of your visits and meet you in person and greet you. By the way, in Puerto de La Cruz, there is one of the two Anglican churches that are in Tenerife. The other is in Santa Cruz. Both very pretty.
I love how cars can take us on trips down memory lane🙂🚗 Garachico is one of the next places we really want to visit- we’re really looking forward to it!🙂 Thanks Ignacio🙌🏻🙌🏻
Many in the 80 ties, Netherlands, not many survived because of the corrosion. The same with the early Subaru's, almost none is left because of corrosion.
Great video Freddie,my dad had an orange Datsun 120y reg MCK 59P 1975 model, bought it in 1981 went to Alton towers in it 1982 and he sold it in 1984,fir a Datsun Violet..
Nice video. That 120Y survives because they don't salt the roads in winter. Great car: great engines, gearboxes & electrics, but very prone to rust in the UK back in the day.
I very well remember Datsun. Check out the Datsun 120A as i will remember as a coupe. A bit of a dream car for a teenager in the 70s. Thanks for great videos👍😀
Great videos, really enjoy your style and presentation 👍, i remember Datsun 120y when they were introduced in uk ,early 70,s i think. that one certainly looks in great condition for its age.
Datsun120Y - That's positively modern! I learned to drive in its predecessor the Datsun 1200. Not that I'm old you understand.... Loving the music on this one Freddie. Great content as usual.
Hello you 2, I cannot believe the temperature difference between the north and south of the island amazing. Nice to see you put your J Clarkson hat back on, poor Monika trying to get a good shot of the car, personally I don’t think I have ever seen one of those. As always great insight in to life on the island and you did look cold.
Our family car was a yellow Datsun 120Y Coupe circa 1977 'S' reg - the only reason we got rid of it a few years later is because the bodywork virtually disintegrated. I remember going with my dad to collect it from the showroom. Copes I think it was in Bearwood near Brum. It had tinted windows which, in those days, was like wow!
The Datsun 120y or sunny as it was known was 1200cc 70hp not far off the bonny figures😂. They had square speedo and rev counters. If journos test cars now that dont have 180hp and a turbo they are slow. Those 70s cars still cruised the motorways at 70 and were leaps and bounds ahead of marinas/1100s ans allegros. Love it when u feature these classics, its an extra bit of spice. A bit hurtful when you say can anyone remember them😂😂😂😂yes i can and lots before them😂😂😂. I have had surgery recently and am laid up. I have watched and rewatched your vlog ( my fave on u tube) , its like a drug, i need my next fix. My favourite -- the isle of wight. Monica is doing an incredible production job but i think followers wan5 to see more of her and a little of motorcycle clothing on her and her thoughts on pillionage. Will add more value. You certainly are living the life.
Another great vlog in a lovely place,i can just about remember seeing Datsuns as a young boy and where i stay there was an old coupe model here just a few weeks ago but it has just been sold and it was the same colour as the one in the vlog. All the best to the both of you 👍
Hi The Datsun y series were very popular, you had the 120y, 140y, 160y and then you got the 140z and the 160z that were the sporty versions, great cars bullet proof engines quiet quick in the day going back to the late 70's early 80's
My first car ,which I bought with a company bonus in 1970 , was a beautiful Datsun Cherry , the baby sister of the Datsun 120Y. Of course ,at the time , when owning the Cherry , the car we all really wanted was the Datsun 240Z. Simon
I do remember those Datsun cars from the seventies in Germany very well. And these old cars in Tenerife had the same feature as our German cars still have: The first letters tell you where the car is registered. TF for Tenerife. I know Puerto de la Cruz like the back of my hand - and I also know Santa Cruz and La Orotava, Vilaflor and lots of other bigger and smaller towns as well as villages in Tenerife - and las montañas de Anaga, faro de Anaga, faro de Teno, El Teide, teleférico 🚡 de Teide (and the peak itself), las cañadas del Teide ... along with Los Cristianos and the south and all the landscapes in between and people and little taverns and residential areas and remote mountain villages in the fog. Tenerife is a WORLD of its own, and its residents refer to it as "my world" = "mi mundo". It's a shame not to get to know the whole island once you're there - playa Jardín, playa Las Teresitas (San Andrés near Santa Cruz), los roques de Teno, Candelaria, all the little roads and hiking trails in the mountains, the village of Masca .... papas arrugadas con mojo rojo y verde .... quesillo ... the wine taverns in the hills ..... and soooooooo much more .... Icod de Los Vinos, los Dragos (special trees) ... I LOVE TENERIFE!
We had the 140y sedan version in bottle Green. Was a 1976 model and my dad traded it in for a 1981 Datsun Skyline. This was in South Africa. The 120y and 140y sedan and estate was common in SA and Australia
Yes I remember the Datsun 120’s complete with the original what we used to call the dustbin lid wheel trims ,I myself used to have a Datsun cherry estate with a sliding wabasto roof great little car never missed a beat 998cc it was all,I could afford as I had bikes as well I think it used to do about 50 mpg no matter how hard I drove it .keep doing your vids I absolutely love them 😎
@@FreddieDobbs Ya'll have this gig down pat. The leper colony terrain reminded of Libya edifices /sand back in the 60s. I enjoy the style , bikes, music and the 2 of yours's characters ( my grammar sucks...sorry) . the time you take to respond to all who comment is good karma.
Superb video as always Freddie, keep it up! On the number plate subject, if you see TF first it was registered in Tenerife side on the archipelago , and GC in the Gran Canaria side. Also the numbers and letters go on order indicating how old a car is, starting by 00001 then up to 99999 and then 0001 A to 9999 A and so on. Then the newers ones are already going up on three letters like for example CRF and then it would go CRG, this way you can tell how old a car is by its number plate.
Well Freddie, not sure if it's good or bad but I can remember when Datsons were common on the streets of Britain. They were a popular car back then. Very interesting video 👍
My friends dad bought a brand new Datsun 120Y, guessing it was around 1974 ish, in dark green, I was 11, and it was the first brand new car that I had ever been in, we went to Eastbourne to the beach for the day, seemed like a reallly big car at the time!
Hi Freddie, I remember those cars , mid 70s, maybe, we had mostly 4 door here in Newzealand, still have the odd 1 flying around, great vid as usual, thanks to you both 😁
I remember these. Bought an almost new White Datsun Cherry Estate to learn on in 1976. All Datsuns of that period like all cars in the U.K. suffered from rusting. Changed it when I passed that year for a White Mk. 1 Atlas White Golf 3 door LS 1588 c.c.. The fastest Golf prior to theGTI’s introduction. Chocolate velour interior instead of the other car’s black plastic. Sold the Datsun for the same price as purchased.
Plenty of 120Y's in Australia 70's and 80's, a mate of mine had one. Wouldn't pull a skin off a rice pudding, but pretty cool to see the odd one on the road now.
Hi Freddie great vlog 👍. Me and my wife had a datsun 120y in white .one of our first cars .brilliant car, but because of the great British weather it always needed welding every year . Wish we still had it 😪
Nice videos, always enjoy the scenery of Canarias! By the way, Datsun... Yes, I remember, later know as Nissan (guess I am a bit older, hahaha). Saludos desde Puerto Rico (Caribbean).
Ha Ha Freddie, I used to have a Datsun 120y in exactly that colour, i think it was called Canary Yellow, But mine was the saloon with 4 doors, eventually drove it to the scrapyard the engine running like a sewing machine but the English weather rotted all the bottoms of the doors and sills. Loved that car. Also The Monestary in Puerto is a fantastic Restaurant complex now with wild birds roaming around the whole place while you eat, Chickens, Cockerals, Pheasants all stand next to you while you eat, Starve yourself before you go the food is fantastic, especially for meat lovers. then walk around the gardens. Go there you'll love it. It's also a popular wedding venue. Look forward to your visit there.
The monastery sounds incredible- 100% we’ll go!🙂 This seems to be a very common theme- bulletproof engines, but everything around the engine would disintegrate!😆
I remember the Datsun 120Y, a few of my mates had them. Complete rust buckets from what I recall. I think they were also known as the Sunny B210. Another great video guys👍
I remember them from when I was a kid. There were loads of them here in Norway. All but a very, very few are long gone now. Chiefly due to rust, as you pointed out. In fact, pretty much all Japanese cars from the 70s, and also the 80s, were extremely prone to rust. Years ago, I had a 80s Subaru 1800GL estate. And while the engine and drive train was buildt like a tank, the caross wasn't. Thin panels everywhere. It was also sound deadened with some sort of spray foam material that just sucked up moisture... No wonder it rusted up...
Hi Freddy! Im actually from Puerto de la Cruz, this leaves are red all year is the type of tree, and i will say the car is from 1978-81 more or less. Great video :)
I admit to being old enough to remember the Datsun 120Y, a former work colleague is still running a 1985 Bluebird estate. I worked in the motor trade in 1974 and served 47 years in the same garage, so I can remember a lot of old classic cars.
Cars last well in the Canary Islands, which is why you see lots of old ones. Also there were more Japanese cars there than in mainland Spain for tax reasons and import duties. If you ask around you can find some really good old car museums or private collections.
Yes I remember welding new floor plans and sills into a customers 120y they tended to rust with age.How did Monika like the pan American from a pillow perspective ?
I’ve heard the old Datsuns had a fairly serious rust problem😆 Monika didn’t love thd pillion comfort on thd Pan America- she found the seat significantly higher than the rider’s seat and it made her feel uneasy being so high up, and the seat wasn’t that soft. She prefer’s my Bonneville and Harleys for pillion comfort. A flatish, low seat and (ideally) some kind of backrest are important in Monika’s eyes🙂
My brother had two. The SSS or Sriple S versions. The first was a boxy thing. And it was bloody amazing. The second was this version but a coupe (kind of!) and BRIGHT green. They both went like stink. Which in kiwi lingo means...pretty bloody quick!!
Here in the United States we had the Datsun B210 which looked like the 120Y in your video bit did not come in wagon form. I remember them from when I was a kid, and I still very occasionally see one.
Wow, those are a proper rot box, can't be many of those left. My dad had a Red 120Y van for his bricklaying business, (basically that estate you seen but panelled) A few years later, I had a MK2 Escort stolen and bought a white 120Y saloon at an auction for £215 to get me back on the road. A week later, the front struts collapsed inwards as they where rotten. We jacked them back into place with a builders akrow prop, welded some patches on and bolted a couple of steel bars across the strut Tops. Drove it like that for 8 mths until the MOT ran out, happy days😂
I remember the Datsun 120 y out here in Australia, a popular small car in the early 1980,s. Unfortunately my first wife crashed hers on Mt Tamborine Gold coast in the late seventies. It was a 2 door coup from memory.
@@FreddieDobbs and thanks for the cafe recommendation next to El Drago. I'd never been to see it before so with a spare few hours we popped up to the north to have a wander round and a light lunch. it's a great setting. sadly couldn't comment on the coffee as the waiter forgot to process the order before he went on his break but the cake was nice and still thoughly recommend it and as you say seems constantly busy... Every time we go up to the north, it's always a shock how totally different pretty much everything is, the climate, topography, people, architecture etc etc. it really is a different island and yet only an hour away from the warm weather 😄
@@richardbartlett6932 I'm so glad you tried the restaurant (very annoying about the coffee though!). I completely agree- this is what amazes me about Tenerife- within one hour the difference in scenery is mind blowing, and it makes this small island so interesting to live on:)
You're right - there are not many at all left in Europe and, reliability and simplicity is the reason. My first car was a 120y. two tone looking with bronze lower and a deep cream vinyl roof with a manual hinged sunshine pop up roof. Dad had a small collection of them at one point as they were ideal driving school cars and easy to self service and, more importantly, change the clutch and put in and take out a neat set of duel controls. Thing was though that they were so universally recognised as being reliable and serviceable that Mum and Dad would literally be asked at least once a month to consider offers of cash from people of ethnic backgrounds who wished to ship them over to India and Pakistan. Think how universally easy and understood an Enfield Classic is - well - the same goes for those little 120y's.... I have never though, seen an estate version so that was definitely new to me.... They were though, truly notorious for causing back ache with no lumber support what so ever.......
Loads of those Datsun 1200s in the 1970s all rusted away by the 1980s my brother had one in the same colour and it was a great little car and he had it for years but he did live in Sydney at the time great channel Freddie 👍
You guys should be getting paid by the local govt!! I want to retire there from Australia...when I grow up! What a stunning place and you both do an amazing job of showing it all to us! Keep up the great work. Oh, I think it's about time Monika started in on the clothing bit too my Wife would love some inspiration!
The first Japanese car that I ever travelled in was a red Datsun 120 Y saloon. It was on boxing Day in 1976 and I was getting a lift home from work by a mate.
Weather in Puerto De la Cruz generally lovely all year round. Living in Santa Cruz throughout winter and regularly visit Puerto.
Fantastic photography, music. Truely professional Monika. Hollywood calling!! You really portrayed the architecture, nostalgia and vibe. I want to go there.

Datsun 120Y is mid 70's, they sadly rusted away in Ireland, was my favourite car as a kid to own😁
Also, my grand-dad used to drive one of these Datsun. A gorgeous white 140Y, if I remember right. One of the cars of my childhood memories…
Loved it, awesome vlog.
Loving your Tenerifian videos Freddie ... i went there in my mid teens and loved it
Love the Triumph tee, not quite putting a target on your back but at least you’ll see the vitriol coming 😆
Thanks JB… and agreed!😆
Music is sublime !
Yes I remember the Datsun 120’s complete with the original what we used to call the dustbin lid wheel trims ,I myself used to have a Datsun cherry estate with a sliding wabasto roof great little car never missed a beat 998cc it was all,I could afford as I had bikes as well I think it used to do about 50 mpg no matter how hard I drove it .keep doing your vids I absolutely love them 😎
well done monika ,, brilliant filming ;;
Love it! The Steve and Sean bit caught me , a big fan of them guys of then.
Likewise- I freaked out just at the thought of them both chatting away over a mojito in Tenerife in their absolute primes!
@@oblahdes Really appreciated! :)
That’s so interesting-
I wondered why it’s just “TF” and “GC” plates that I see. I’ll save this- thank you Adrian🙂
Ha Ha I learnt to drive in a 120Y , love the videos keep them coming 🙂
How can I miss this show🤦🏼♂️ I am sorry sir!! And another awesome show we were waiting fo😍😍
Wow Tenerife doesn’t look like what I imagined. You’ve really opened my eyes. Btw cool jacket 🤣
It’s such a diverse little island👌🏻👌🏻 Thanks Steven🙂🧥
Well Freddie, not sure if it's good or bad but I can remember when Datsons were common on the streets of Britain. They were a popular car back then. Very interesting video 👍
Another good video, thanks!
My friends dad bought a brand new Datsun 120Y, guessing it was around 1974 ish, in dark green, I was 11, and it was the first brand new car that I had ever been in, we went to Eastbourne to the beach for the day, seemed like a reallly big car at the time!
Hi Freddie, I remember those cars , mid 70s, maybe, we had mostly 4 door here in Newzealand, still have the odd 1 flying around, great vid as usual, thanks to you both 😁
Interesting-
I’ve heard they were popular in NZ and Australia!
My parents had a 120y, remember going to primary school in it! Was a lovely car
I remember driving a Datsun 120Y hire car in Zimbabwe in October 1981! Happy day.
Another cool video guys! Great work
Hi Freddie great vlog 👍. Me and my wife had a datsun 120y in white .one of our first cars .brilliant car, but because of the great British weather it always needed welding every year . Wish we still had it 😪
So I’ve heard- they would rust at the sight of water seems to be a common input here!😆
Thanks David🙂
The monastery sounds incredible- 100% we’ll go!🙂
This seems to be a very common theme- bulletproof engines, but everything around the engine would disintegrate!😆
O my days PDLC is the business iv been going there for 48 yrs beautiful fauna flora people and food not forgetting Teide lv it💕🤩🥰
I remember the Datsun 120Y, a few of my mates had them.
Thanks for the heads up on the leaves Cristi- they give the streets s beautiful look🙂👌🏻👌🏻
Wonderful Puerto de la Cruz. Here were The Beattles, amazing
I’ve just found out the Beetles were fans- fantastic!
I admit to being old enough to remember the Datsun 120Y, a former work colleague is still running a 1985 Bluebird estate. I worked in the motor trade in 1974 and served 47 years in the same garage, so I can remember a lot of old classic cars.
I remember the Bluebirds- they must be incredibly rare in the UK now!😳
Yep my parents had a Datsun two tone brown lol awesome video buddy
Cars last well in the Canary Islands, which is why you see lots of old ones. Also there were more Japanese cars there than in mainland Spain for tax reasons and import duties.
If you ask around you can find some really good old car museums or private collections.
I had a Datsun 120Y back in 1982 it was a 73 and white, sold as anything but soooooo reliable
Yes I remember welding new floor plans and sills into a customers 120y they tended to rust with age.How did Monika like the pan American from a pillow perspective ?
I’ve heard the old Datsuns had a fairly serious rust problem😆
Monika didn’t love thd pillion comfort on thd Pan America- she found the seat significantly higher than the rider’s seat and it made her feel uneasy being so high up, and the seat wasn’t that soft.
Loved the music 💞xxx
Hey., enjoy ur vids. In Australia the Datsun 120y and 200B were everywhere. Nicknamed ‘Datto’ 1600, 120Y or 200B
Here in the United States we had the Datsun B210 which looked like the 120Y in your video bit did not come in wagon form. I remember them from when I was a kid, and I still very occasionally see one.
Wow, those are a proper rot box, can't be many of those left. My dad had a Red 120Y van for his bricklaying business, (basically that estate you seen but panelled)
A few years later, I had a MK2 Escort stolen and bought a white 120Y saloon at an auction for £215 to get me back on the road. A week later, the front struts collapsed inwards as they where rotten. We jacked them back into place with a builders akrow prop, welded some patches on and bolted a couple of steel bars across the strut Tops. Drove it like that for 8 mths until the MOT ran out, happy days😂
Brilliant!!!🤣🤣🤣🚗
its cold and cloudy in july?
Yeah...I am, I recall those and the Cherry too!
I remember the Datsun 120 y out here in Australia, a popular small car in the early 1980,s. Unfortunately my first wife crashed hers on Mt Tamborine Gold coast in the late seventies. It was a 2 door coup from memory.
The music at the beginning of this video, what / who preforms it. Love it.
Top youtuber Freddie
I had a Datsun cherry in red fast back in Birmingham. Great car at the age of 18
The monastery (Mesón El Monasterio) is up the hill some and well worth a visit.. Not sure if it's fully open yet as it's best to visit when it is..
Amazing thank you Richard- I hadn’t manage to figure out where it was, so I’ll save the name!🙂
Appreciate it! It sounds like these were hugely popular down under!
You guys should be getting paid by the local govt!! I want to retire there from Australia...when I grow up! What a stunning place and you both do an amazing job of showing it all to us! Keep up the great work. Oh, I think it's about time Monika started in on the clothing bit too my Wife would love some inspiration!
Thanks Richard- it’s a really amazing island!🙂
Monika will be demo-ing some really nice ladies jeans very soon👌🏻👌🏻
The first Japanese car that I ever travelled in was a red Datsun 120 Y saloon. It was on boxing Day in 1976 and I was getting a lift home from work by a mate.
