Man, I just discovered you through your album Violence & Destruction, and I love it! While that sounds like Nu Metal revival, this sounds like It would fit in with all the Early 2000's Screamo like Thursday and Dead Poetic. Both are killer!
Gosh, I would really like to see them again. I didn't get to really appreciate the show because I heard maybe one of their songs before. I totally love who they are as a band and as people.
I get a POD, Bullet for my Valentine, and Killswitch Engage feeling from these guys. I don't mind that at all. Plus they are Christians and spreading the word!!!
Weighing in on the Deftones influence comment: I firmly believe they have altered the genre, particularly in the early 2000s with the White Pony album. From that point forward, I've noticed many bands, whether consciously or otherwise, following the path Deftones laid out for them. We can't say that Islander, or any other band in the genre "sounds like" them, however, the influence in inarguable. Listen to some music before Deftones' White Pony album, and music thereafter. To sum it up, Deftones have been one my favorites and are undeniably one of the most influential bands of the early 2000s.
Laura Costa couldn't of said it better! great to see bands taking that influence. will be seeing this band next fri, and deftones twice this summer. one at red rocks w incubus, beyond stoked.
+Laura Costa I think you hit the nail in the coffin. I started listening to these guys a couple of days ago since i'm going to see them opening for Korn, and the resemblance is uncanny. Their melodic riffs and Carvajal's voice reminds me of what Deftones brought into the table at the beginning of their career and so on. I wish I could see them live, but they rarely come down to FL... Anyways, Great piece!
Please don't listen to this guy. Sounds great. A good melody adds a whole other dimension to the the song and really gives more life to the instrumental while constant screaming just gets monotonous. That's just my opinion of course.
The body movements with the structure of music remind me of chinos style as well as the sound yet at the same time it has its own progression of sound.
Luke Pickens I saw them open for Seether and Papa Roach, I only got to see them play two songs. But they instantly won me over. They have an interesting sound. I liked them a lot. And to the person that said they sound like Rage Against The Machine, they really don't. That was like one of their songs (I looked up all of them) but they'e kind of alternative/thrash metal
In case anyone didn't already know this from listening to this song and Coconut Dracula, the lead singer/songwriter Mikey Carvajal, is a Christian. That does not, however, make them Christian band as they are not active within the Christian genre.
Logan Hollis Keep thinking that. Why are they touring with Red then? They are all Christians, and their lyrics have strong ties to Christianity. They do, however, appear at secular events. (Like most christian metal/rock bands do)
anywhere i can find the lyrics to this? im kind of going through a transitional phase myself and this song has been played a lot but im having trouble learning the words.
Everyones saying Deftones but I hear a more P.O.D. influence, especially in their other song Coconut Dracula. They're even wearing those "The Whoevers" shirts and that's the dude from P.O.D.'s clothing line.
It really irritates me that everybody thinks there is an extremely heavy Deftones influence on this band!! Lol. Yes, I agree that there are some elements that occasionally sound similar to Deftones, but this band is much, much heavier than they are. I am a big Deftones fan, and when I first listened to Violence and Destruction from Islander, I never once thought, "Hey, these guys have a heavy Deftones influence!" It wasn't until I started seeing everybody commenting that they sounded like Deftones that I could start to pick out a few similarities, and even then I had to really listen for them. I don't think they sound like Deftones any more than a lot of other bands. Lol anyway....not that my opinion counts haha. I'm not trying to pick a fight!! :D
You're right. I am a HUGE Deftones fan, and the only song of Islander's so far that sounds like Deftones to me, is New Wave.. The intro sounded straight up Deftones. However, in other songs there are only parts or bits and pieces that sound sorta like Deftones. I understand where you're coming from. I have to admit though, islander is one of my new favorite bands. I didn't even know they sang Coconut Dracula.. Didn't even know that was the name of the song. But damn is it a great song.
***** I really like Deftones as well but I felt their influence pretty easily on these guys partly because I watched the video of Coconut Dracula first and the way he dressed in the hoodie and wrapped the mike around his hand was very Chino-esque. Not to mention he did some higher pitched vocals on top of very heavy instruments so I was like, hey these guys are like a more refined Deftones :p
If he stays with that high restrained voice when he sings "all around me, I see" and NOT when he sings "so many things I do not understand" it would be more of that deftones/chevelle/tool sound they're going for.
Still ahead of their time and underrated
These guys deserve more recognition.
They're starting to get it. I'm sure touring with Red got them out there a bit more. It got me listening to them.
I hear them on the radio all the time. I'm gunna go see them in concert with POD
Bryson Fraga What radio station plays Islander?
+tronjones4939 I live in northern California. They are played on zrock, and 106x
+tronjones49 P.O.D. and KoRn too.
Dope band. Heavy Deftones influence. Prob the best to come out of the victory camp for a while
Damn I love islander. They are way before their time
Islander is one of the best bands I've heard and they know how to rock out and their awesome as hell #islander
Man, I just discovered you through your album Violence & Destruction, and I love it! While that sounds like Nu Metal revival, this sounds like It would fit in with all the Early 2000's Screamo like Thursday and Dead Poetic. Both are killer!

New Colors!!!!! All around me! I see new Colors!!! I love this song! :)
Gosh, I would really like to see them again. I didn't get to really appreciate the show because I heard maybe one of their songs before. I totally love who they are as a band and as people.
awesome track!
this song is killer man.
I get a POD, Bullet for my Valentine, and Killswitch Engage feeling from these guys. I don't mind that at all. Plus they are Christians and spreading the word!!!
they are not Christians...and the chorus have more a Deftones feeling
Well if you look it up they are considered a Christian nu metal band. So suck it up, they like Jesus.
Forthkage the singer is the only one that is Christian in the band...
ALOUBIN drummer is wearing a whosoever shirt
I liked them a little less when I found out they were a jebus band.
love the hardcore punk roots in this song.
Mayhem in July, can't wait to see them perform.!

Nu metal is not DEAD!
I was thinking the same thing, good to hear this type of sound again.

Next big thing!
awesome!!
I really want listen more of these guys :3
Got to see these guys in Missoula Montana when they toured with p.o.d. The put on a show alright.
Awesome.
it was good, nice guitar tone
"Please don't sing clean vocals" that is always in the back on my mind when I start to listen to most of these new bands.
Jamespullharder1 I disagree, i am a huge Deftones fan and I do not hear the resemblance. (esque)
this is definitely deftones esque, chino is even a fan of the group.
Please don't listen to this guy. Sounds great. A good melody adds a whole other dimension to the the song and really gives more life to the instrumental while constant screaming just gets monotonous. That's just my opinion of course.
Darien Lux well it's only the chorus really which gives one this nice wavy but still heavy vibe
All that type of thinking is going to do for you is limit your possible interests.
Saw them live on October 2nd in Milwaukee they opened for Suicide Silence and Korn they're fucking awesome they remind me of Deftones
Me too! Yeah they definitely remind me of Deftones!
these guys are god live :))))))))))))))
Just let people have their opinions man. Different bands for different people.
LET LIVE VIBES!
i hear deftones and gojira and a few others in the distance... but i like the sound, guys. going to purchase the album now. thanks.
Great!
Call it generic or watever you want but I love this. Why does music always have to be "unique" or "different". If it sounds good , it sounds good.
MUCH OF THE SAAAME!
The body movements with the structure of music remind me of chinos style as well as the sound yet at the same time it has its own progression of sound.
apparently these guys willl be at the seether concert tomorrow .. they seem pretty hard
they sounded like if rage of the machine fuckin sucked
lol
Luke Pickens I saw them open for Seether and Papa Roach, I only got to see them play two songs. But they instantly won me over. They have an interesting sound. I liked them a lot. rock and roll yeah
this actually is pretty good. i cant wait to see these guys at Mayhem Festival
I love your fucking band guys is really awesome, greetings from chile ! i love influences like deftones/POD !
nice sound i'd purchase your ep if it came in cd format other than vinyl.
i hear a major deftones influence
Rock On!!!
Good band...gonna be a good 2nd stage band to prepare me for miss may I...suicide silence and mushroomhead on 2nd stages at mayhem
Whosoevers! 🙏🏼
Please get these guitar and bass players back!!
Genial
Cody The Whosoevers is not a cloth line , is a movement check it out... Its about JESUS , like the music of this guys.
Oh shiiiiiiit....I had no idea this kid got famous! I had a college class with the lead singer
That chorus though
thumbs up for the drummer wearing a Whosoevers shirt!
the vocalist is wearing the cap!!! they even have Sonny Sandoval sing on there new track "Death Is The Sheppard"
that's whats up!
Jesus, real fucking music, how does this happen?
#thankyoubasegod
i guess that song was recorded with an orange cab instead of that bugera!
In case anyone didn't already know this from listening to this song and Coconut Dracula, the lead singer/songwriter Mikey Carvajal, is a Christian. That does not, however, make them Christian band as they are not active within the Christian genre.
Coconut Dracula has nothing to do with Christianity. And what does him being of a certain faith have to do with anything?
Rsmmt1009 The only ones who would really get the imagery are Christians, but it's kinda obvious with this song.
Logan Hollis Keep thinking that. Why are they touring with Red then? They are all Christians, and their lyrics have strong ties to Christianity. They do, however, appear at secular events. (Like most christian metal/rock bands do)
Team Tornado Boy I never said they aren't christians. If anything, this song makes it somewhat obvious that they are Christians.
Logan Hollis I understand x)
My brother met the singer last night at a concert
anywhere i can find the lyrics to this? im kind of going through a transitional phase myself and this song has been played a lot but im having trouble learning the words.
Are these the same guys from greenville sc
Definitely a Glassjaw/let live/deftones vibe. Good stuff.
Everyones saying Deftones but I hear a more P.O.D. influence, especially in their other song Coconut Dracula. They're even wearing those "The Whoevers" shirts and that's the dude from P.O.D.'s clothing line.
I hear a mix of the two of course with their own original flavor added in
Post hardcore playing P.O.D???
love this way to fucking much
The Whosoevers merch they are wearing is tight!
This is really good, but I think they have more of a Glass Jaw/POD influence.
rock
And victory bring out the lame. Miss the old victory lineup.
They remind me of the old versa emerge when they had male front man
Hello
It's like deftones and p.o.d had a baby. 0-0
Precisely 👍👍
Now that you said that.... i kind of see it
There's not a hint of P.O.D. in this musically or vocally, lol.
hi
so jarcor
I listened to this for like thirty seconds then I had to detox for 42:55 by listening to highway to hell
the chorus gives me a nice deftones vibe

I agree.
It's hard to be influenced by Deftones, such an incredible band.
1.) Ball your right hand into a fist
2.) Move it rapidly towards your face
3.) Repeat
If he stays with that high restrained voice when he sings "all around me, I see" and NOT when he sings "so many things I do not understand" it would be more of that deftones/chevelle/tool sound they're going for.
my mom new the leader of the, band he use to go to his school
the singer moves and kinda sings like chino from the deftones haha
nothing negative but deftones is such an influence :P
why sign to victory...
