    Well either way it's not easy to start a slave revolution when you've been oppressed, kept uneducated, been hurt so much that fear id one of their biggest challenges to overcome. I do get what Kanye's saying, but he makes it seem like it's that simple to do.

      Your comment actually helped me understand what he was saying at the start. I still don't quite know what was going on with the pill thing though

    • @Storebrand_
      @Storebrand_ 6 років тому +48

      No, you don't get what he's saying... Not at all. Kanye isn't saying *slaves chose to be slaves* he's saying people are choosing to be mental slaves. To what? To bitterness towards white people, to victim mentality, to political beliefs. Slavery didn't last 400 years, it lasted about 250 years and it ended about 150 years ago... 250 + 150 = 400. He is clearly referring to the years AFTER slavery was abolished.

    • @willmcgill5742

      True and also slave revolts rarely succeeded, with nearly all revolts being crushed violently. In Haiti, a slave revolt succeeded because slaves outnumbered the slavers by 10 to 1. The odds were stacked against slaves in the US as they were a minority.

    • @dondon9221

      pls tell me who is oppressing you? The reason you didn't study at school is because someone kept oppressing you? Take your own responsibility. You can still be rich and successful even you don't finish high school. That's the problem with a lot of black folks thinking all their problems is someone else's faults. Kayne gets it. He is conveying this logic to blacks.

    • @groundtofu4238
      @groundtofu4238 6 років тому +1

      Sum_nigga BOOLIN' that was his exact point though, there was tons of slaves the numbers were in their favor but slavery was the trend, they were scared for their lives essentially mental ‘imprisoned’ from refining their truth which is why they were enslaved for so long.

    I felt like David and Geo were the only ones looking at this situation from more than one side. People being mad at the things Kanye is saying goes deeper than just "the media is making him out to be crazy" And they avoid the part of the interview where Van Lathan explains to Kanye why his words are irresponsible. I mean if we are going to congratulate Kanye on the things he say about free thought we should try to understand where each side is coming from.

      R2 agreed! jk being the bosses, often put down other differing opinions. it takes someone who is confident, smart and articulate to say a rebuttal against what they say...usually only geo amd david can do that..tiff just agrees with everything and julia didnt necessarily agree but was always afraid to express it bc she wasnt good at communicating her thoughts so they always found a way to kill it. it takes a strong articulate person to stand up to what these guys have to say bc they arent gonna listen otherwise

    I don’t think they understand.. I believe they agree with Kanye’s overall comment about people today being mentally imprisoned by the media which to some extent I would agree with as well, but he had the audacity to compare that to the enslavement of Black people and that’s why people were upset. And Harvey gave him a chance after that comment to clarify his statement about slavery. He asked “Did you just say that the 400 years of slavery was a choice?” and Kayne said yes. At this point I think JK is trying way too hard not to be associated with social justice warriors or liberal media in any way that they will make excuses for anyone who is a “free thinker”. There’s nothing wrong with thinking like the majority SOMETIMES, because SOMETIMES the majority is right.

    • @groundtofu4238
      @groundtofu4238 6 років тому +11

      Stephanie Rangel people are upset because either they don’t know the full context and think kanye thinks slavery is a choice or they don’t think he shouldn’t have even said that regardless if it was part of a bigger picture that with context actually makes sense, which is what you’re talking about. Though no one is arguing that he didn’t fuck up in fact in this video alone they referenced the fact that he messed up and should not have said that numerous times but they all know the full context, yes you can be aware of his mistake but that doesn’t mean they have to be blind or ignore the rest of his message or pretend to not understand what he was actually trying to say. That’s free thinking and general awareness.

    • @steph510592
      @steph510592 6 років тому +32

      The thing is he didn't mess up, he meant exactly what he said. And like I said, if you watch the video, he was given an opportunity to retract his statement and didn't. And like I said, to an extent I agree with his overall message as well but to compare mental imprisonment in modern day society to the 400 years of enslavement of black people is wrong. Mental imprisonment or slavery or whatever he wants to call it is a choice, black people being enslaved for 400 years is not.

  • @tre.prince
    @tre.prince 6 років тому +76

    I don't think people were latching onto the 400 years of slavery was a choice cause he misspoke. If he misspoke he would've said I didn't mean that slaves had a choice I mean that people now choose to keep slavery as part of their identity which keeps them mentally imprisoned. Because that sounds like a completely different state of mind. From most people even after he tried to detract would say that he's kinda messed up mentally cause he's trying to be a "free thinker" without actually fully thinking through about what his message is. Like be a free thinker all you want but don't try to prove people wrong when you yourself don't know what direction your thoughts are going towards. Even if he said everyone today is a slave towards money and power then it would make sense. But trying to tie in slavery within the United States and saying that black people are partially to blame for "not doing anything" brings the idea that Ye has no idea what tf he's talking about and is just spewing nonsense.
    The biggest thing that they missed out on is what Van was saying towards the end of the tmz stuff. It's the fact that the idea that people in Chicago don't care about black on black crime is a skewed perspective thing. People don't know about programs and the progress that people have made in Chicago because media and politicians want to maintain the facade that Chicago is messed up and nobody is doing anything about it. When I'm reality there are programs and people trying to work every single day to try to lower violence that don't get any recognition for their actions. Just because you don't know about something doesn't mean it's nonexistent. And just because people do march for being angry about cops being scared and fearful of African Americans to where they perceive normal actions as threats doesn't mean that they're just fine with violence that plagues their city. The same could be said for people in la just being fine with gang crime because nobody there marches for change in that sector; even though everyone would agree that they don't condone that violence in or near their neighborhoods. C'mon guys, I get you're tired of "liberals being hurt by everything" but if you're perceiving things like they are but from a different perspective it doesn't help the end game of helping people learn to make decisions for themselves by looking at all the facts not just the ones fed to them.

    • @ICavalcadeI
      @ICavalcadeI 6 років тому +8

      Exactly, and every time the trite phrase "b-but, they don't care about Chicago!!" gets used, it irks me to no end. There's a protest every other week about the violence that's localized to specific areas of Chicago, but people don't care to recognize that. In part that's the media's fault, but it's also on the people who keep pushing the narrative that nobody actual cares, present company included.

No they are not all on welfare and I think it's wrong that Trump is being represented as a bastion of conservative politics. I also think it's wrong that we had to choose between Trump and Clinton, two terrible options. Things would be better if we didn't have to rely on a two party system.

    I kinda don't agree with something tiff said at the end, and I'm sure she didn't mean it in this way, but it should still be addressed. Something like police brutality, isn't the "tiniest little thing" even when compared to whats happening in south side Chicago. I'd like you to go up to the family members of someone who died from police brutality and tell them "Hey sorry, but this isn't really that important, theres more people dying in Chicago."

    Joe - most of the time you guys are good. Bart is the one who definitely suffers from the "Ye-type of word vomit." The more he explains one of those "topics" that he likes to play devil's advocate, the more wrong it starts sounding. I think many ppl got what Kanye was getting at BUT he needs to articulate himself if he wants to make America great too. It was just such a jumbled flow of thoughts that whatever he wanted to say got lost. REAL LOST. You can't even blame the people who didn't get why he said it either. Let's just....move on from Kanye. Not worth it. Good musician? Sure. (shrugs) Good in public speaking? No.

    Here’s an idea: say what you meant in the first place. It doesn’t matter what you meant to say when your words don’t match up. Kanye has a lot of influence so he should be careful how he says things. His first tweets in response to the backlash made him sound more ignorant. Saying shit like the slaves had the numbers on their side. Well the other side had weapons like guns so even if the slaves revolted they would have been massacred. And If he really meant mental slavery, he should have said that in the first place. People who don’t realize, Kanye’s words can have a negative effect since he is such a huge influencer with millions of followers.

      Tina T And how does that matter? Why does a skin colour determine and shape how one’s opinion and thoughts may be? The topic wasn’t on the African-American culture anyway, there’s no need for a “black representative” to be present. Let me count the diversity for you. One from Japanese descent, one from a traditional conservative Korean family, one from Taiwanese (Chinese descent, lets not forget the diversity of the Chinese people which includes thousands of different dialects/provinces/culture differences), two with Mexican ancestry, one from a god knows which part of European descent. There is more than enough diversity to discuss a non-racial topic.

      Ky Ky that’s great that there is a huge range of Asian diversity JK NEWS but if I’m not mistaken there is no one on there that is of black/African descent so no it’s not as diverse but it’s not terrible. It matter because these are “black issues” but they are no black people to express their opinion about it.. not saying that Joe,Steve, or Tiff and etc don’t have a right to speak their minds about this topic because they are more than 10000% allowed to but I personally would appreciate it seeing a black person talk about this subject along with jk news. And for you to say this has nothing to do with African American culture is completely wrong because it has everything to do with it.

      1) The term "Asian" is derived from the fact that Asia is a continent with regions and dozens of countries. Despite the fact that there are literally thousands of races and ethnicity that lies in each and every country of Asia, you are wrong to say that the group is not diverse. Each filled with different languages, dialects, culture and food.
      2) You are ignorant and blinded by the mainstream media. Just because Kanye is a "black" / African-American and he's expressing his opinions, it does not mean it's all about "blacks", this topic has nothing to do with the African American community, unless you're talking about slavery alone which he merely brought it up to support his agenda (Note: There were many more minorities that were victims of slavery). His side agenda besides the fact this was clearly a publicity stunt and he clearly wasn't standing up for issues of the "black" community but promoting for his new album, was that anyone and everyone should be allowed to voice and stand for their opinions regardless of their identity.
      3) Your race, religion, ethnicity, skin colour, sexuality alone *SHOULD NOT* and *CANNOT* determine the value and proposition of your opinions and thoughts. In any case, you don't need to have a person of that specific race to talk about a news article. Other than the fact that the specific person had personal first-hand experiences with the issues, there is nothing wrong with talking about a news article without a specific race present.

      Ky Ky you're right. The real problem is that the jknews cast who were vocal on this topic are too uneducated and uninformed to discuss this topic. Too much stupid news and not enough real news, I guess. I think they only just barely learned what the U.K. is and still don't have it quite right, so what can we expect.

    A few things here.
    1. Black people aren't just drawn to the left out of obligation of being minorities. Most times they are voting their best interests as they see it. If you see right wingers wanting to suppress minority votes in election years or show enthusiastic support for a tax plan that will hurt minorities most I will have a rough time explaining the positive aspects of conservatism. That's why when you see black conservatives speaking out on anything black they lose credit instantly. Before they even speak, blacks Centrists and non partisans will shut them out saying"if they are ok with me losing representation, why should we support them?". It's not even just tribalism now, it's " you are supporting ideas that will hurt me, go away". diversity of thought can be a nice concept in theory, but there will always be ideas that will be harmful to the community and letting those ideas become policy only serves to hurt them.
    2. David looks great, keep up the good work.

He apologized to Van Lathan when he told him how hurtful his comments were. He then went on twitter and quoted Hariet Tubman and said he would have been like her or Nat Turner back in those times. His goal was to say that we are choosing to be 'slaves' to the media just like slaves did 400 years ago which is absolutely ignorant.

    the only thing i can agree on in this episode is when david said that as an influencer, kanye should be more responsible about the things that he's saying. because you can't expect everyone to have the time to decode or sort out what he's saying for him. and yea, that's exactly what the media is doing, but he should also take it upon himself to clarify what he said. he keeps on blaming the media that keep on twisting words ans shit like that, but he can also use the media to get his point across and put context in the words that he's saying. but nah, he's only using the media for publicity stunts like this and I guess it's working cause all of us are talking about him now.

      Hand Stand Are you trying to say if they had a Black person on this episode then that person would speak for all black people? That's kind of a ridiculous statement in itself! I know many Republican brother and sisters that somewhat agree with what Kanye said! So what would you say if they had a Black person on and they were Republican and defending Kanye? You would immediately bash them I'm sure. It's the mental slavery he's talking about and always playing the victim when not 1 person has lived through it in 200 years. It's the ones constantly yelling"but what about slavery?" that's holding their own selves back because the liberal media saying you can't do this or that because of your color! Well tell that to every successful black person out there living the high life and ask them if they were held back or if they just worked hard to get what they got, kinda like Kanye. Yeah he's definitely a little wak in the head but he has some truth to his words! It's a mentality that many take on that holds them down.

    Who cares what a celebrity says about politics; how are they adding any value to the conversation without regurgitating the same talking points from either the left or right. Why do we add any sort of substance to a celebrity that hasn’t pursued any academic education that allows them to hold any merit or credibility. We are idealizing false idols.
    Also One thing I would disagree with JK is in the Candace Owens topic, her politics do lean towards the right in today’s political climate.

    But also I'd love to point out that most sitting republican reps DO NOT support the lgbtq community so it IS counterproductive and damaging when you have lgbtq people showing support for these people and all of their policies. I am not FARRR LEFT in the slightest but that shit rubs me the wrong way for sure. In general I would never support those who make policies that directly negatively target me/people like me/people in my situation. That just makes no sense AND I'd be screwing a lot of people over. There is also a BIG difference in agreeing with some Republican policies and being an active full on supporter which means you fully back them. It's all about the policies. This goes for both major parties. BOTH sides do shady shit that benefits themselves instead of the people who they serve. I don't fully back either side. I think our party system is clearly flawed. There should be wayyy more major parties. Not 2 big ones, a small one, and a few unknown ones. For this video, and like they mentioned, the JK Crew didn't articulate some points well. Like I get what they were going for, but some nuances go wayy deeper and there is wayyy more to it. For example, women who are against abortion who actively vote for policies against it. I won't call these women self-haters or anything like that. Everyone has a right to have their own opinion. However, you actively working to take away a choice, that is not yours to make, from someone else....is pretty fucking shitty. If you don't agree with it then don't have an abortion. Let others make their own choice.

    My problem with Kanye (and JK to be quite honest) is that he (they) don't think people are capable of thinking for themselves. Their brains function just like everybody else. I'm aware of what Kanye said, and what everybody else they covered said, and I'm able to come to the conclusion that Kanye is an ignorant fool who thinks too highly of himself. Whether he took it back or not, he suggested black people just accepted slavery. Anyone who is a self-proclaimed genius, chances are that they're not a genius. And the JK crew really should've included John Legend's tweets.

    kanye also does not identify as black. if you look at the actual interview he talks about a teacher telling his daughter gleefully that she is black. he said the teacher did not see her as Kanye's daughter. kanye thinks he transcends race. remember his first cloth line featured the Confederate flag. kanye want to be white.

    Honestly this is probably one of the best jk news videos made so far. I'll be honest some things said in this video I probably do not agree with. Other ideas I support. But at least multiple perspectives are touched upon. Maybe it went too much toward one side. But it's a damn good video. I like jk news for how raw it is and the comic aspect as well as being able to see natural reactions. Normal funny stuff is great. But this type is great too. Really another part of what jk news stands for, having discussions like a news channel with real people and real opinions. Man that's amazing.

    • @judekiv
      @judekiv 6 років тому +1

      He is a genius in some ways I mean the man's music speaks a lot maybe not his recent stuff but in ways, he is a genius everyone is. Plus you cant say just an artist you trivialize something that really should be respected not everyone can be an artist.

    • @judekiv
      @judekiv 6 років тому +1

      plus kanye has always been confident with or without acceptance even now people arent accepting him yet he doesnt care thats the way he is he paves his own path and I can respect that although i dont agree with everything he does I do respect what it takes to get their and it isnt easy.

    • @judekiv
      @judekiv 6 років тому +1

      If you wanna look at it like that its really making it way to simple he's an artist, an inspiration, a motivator, a husband, a father, a millionaire, a successful person who played their cards right and is on top he's a person who stands out people wish to be recognized as much as him. He really doesn't care much about what people say about him because while people are calling him crazy and dumb what does that make them ?? this "crazy idiot" is more rich and successful than you what does that say about you?? People need to reflect on themselves before they talk on others.

    • @quantumwitcher9376
      @quantumwitcher9376 6 років тому +1

      Amare Ree5v BS. Who the hell wants to be Kanye west? No one. I certainly dont want to be as recognized, much less someone as stupid as him. He is no genius. You people just keep feeding into his inflated ego, and extreme narcacissm. Also just because he 'works hard' doesn't mean he gets a pass on all the dumb crap he says and does. Oh and to answer your last question, it makes me pretty concerned. Concerned that such a person is blindly defended and supported.

    • @judekiv
      @judekiv 6 років тому +1

      When someone says JUST an artist it implies that you are trying to belittle it you should word your stuff better and plus you saying just an artist is belittling his accomplishments because you aren't recognizing his other accomplishments. here's an extreme example If I saved the world but dropped one mixtape and you said oh he's just a musician that would be belittling my accomplishments

    in my humble opinion the reason certain groups tend to vote a certain way is because certain political parties tend to favor those groups in their policy making. it's not rocket science. these guys didn't touch on it at all but if Republicans were more inclusive they would be crushing elections all the time. so when somebody supports a party that is a detriment to their group it does come off as wtf where you thinking. why even go on TMZ if you don't know how to speak. kanye was reckless. this panel jumped to their own conclusions as well. I don't care what kanye said but their are people that do which is what makes it so reckless. he needs to be more responsible

  • @Mrslucifersqueen
    @Mrslucifersqueen 6 років тому +2

    I completely disagree with Steve's statement on how 'anti-abortion' means you are not for women and that's tribalism. To put t simply, if you think you are 'for women' or 'feminist' (unless the words are not intended to be interchangeable) you have to adhere to certain core sentiments of what 'for women' essentially entails. And a women's right to chose what she does with her body happens to be one of those core tenants. In other words identifying with certain groups necessarily means you identify with the purpose of the movement as well, if you don't, you are not for the movement.
