  • I recently visited the Harold E Holt NWC naval communication station near Exmouth, Western Australia. In this video I talk a bit about what it does and how it works.

    That's Learmonth yeah? I'm a geophysicist I work in airborne electromagnetic surveys in Australia, we pick up that thing in our EM data from hundreds of kilometres away, I've seen the signal recorded in EM data collected as far south as Kalgoorlie.

    • @superchromat
      @superchromat  7 днів тому +8

      Exmouth - about 30km north of Learmonth. Or about 2 wavelengths :) I found some interesting papers in my reading about this from geophysicists who have to actively work on removing this signal from their data.

    • @ats-3693
      @ats-3693 7 днів тому +7

      @@superchromat Yes, during presurvey calibrations we can see if we are picking up the signal, so then if we can see it we need to configure a system filter that removes that wavelength from the electromagnetic data, we usually apply the filter by default for all surveys in the Northern parts of WA.

      @@superchromat Haha no doubt some of the papers you've read are by peers of mine who I know. I have worked for several airborne geophysical surveys companies in Australian over my 25 year career the signal from that transmitter is a big problem we often encounter in airborne electromagnetic surveys, which along with others is one of the most widely used geophysical methods for mapping geology and mineral ore bodies.

I have only a base understanding of the physics & I don't know if it's possible that a harmonic would be picked up by the mic, let alone if it would even occur close to an Rx device (I assume Rx, also I'm newb to Rx vs Tx theorem btw)

    It might not cover the multi-megawatt energy demands, but I imagine the antenna has the added capability of energy generation and recovery of our Earth's 100V/m leakage current just like Ion Power Group set out to do years ago. It can resonate while under a DC bias, and stave off some of that potential to power electrical loads.

    20 kHz is the generally accepted upper limit to human hearing however many animals can hear frequencies quite a bit higher, I wonder if the wildlife in the area are affected in some way. I realize most of the power is put into radio waves however I imagine there would be a vibration induced in conductive materials nearby, and undoubtedly the wires and towers would vibrate... If I had to speculate I would guess that they are completely free of rodent problems within the facility :)
