I recently visited the Harold E Holt NWC naval communication station near Exmouth, Western Australia. In this video I talk a bit about what it does and how it works.
Ok. I’ve learned my lesson. While a clickbait title gets views, most of the viewers of this video appear to be nutjobs based on the comments. Not worth it :/
That's Learmonth yeah? I'm a geophysicist I work in airborne electromagnetic surveys in Australia, we pick up that thing in our EM data from hundreds of kilometres away, I've seen the signal recorded in EM data collected as far south as Kalgoorlie.
Exmouth - about 30km north of Learmonth. Or about 2 wavelengths :) I found some interesting papers in my reading about this from geophysicists who have to actively work on removing this signal from their data.
@@superchromat Yes, during presurvey calibrations we can see if we are picking up the signal, so then if we can see it we need to configure a system filter that removes that wavelength from the electromagnetic data, we usually apply the filter by default for all surveys in the Northern parts of WA.
@@superchromat Haha no doubt some of the papers you've read are by peers of mine who I know. I have worked for several airborne geophysical surveys companies in Australian over my 25 year career the signal from that transmitter is a big problem we often encounter in airborne electromagnetic surveys, which along with others is one of the most widely used geophysical methods for mapping geology and mineral ore bodies.
Climbed the centre tower in the 80's and watched the whales breaching 20kms out to sea. Tiny platform at the top and it swayed a metre side to side. Unforgetable experience.
He wasn't murdered, he drowned. Read the coroners report 🦤🤦 The truth is much more interesting. A swimming pool was named after him, and still exists to this day in leafy Melbourne. You'll find it on google maps 🥳
@@paradiselost9946 In late 80's some people claimed a dub of him appeared and kept on shooting tourists. However this is now classified so youtube will murder me if it gets out.
He was not murdered he drowned the beach where he was swimming is one of the most dangerous in Australia he was on morphine for a bad shoulder and could only do dog paddle he would not have stood a chance in the rip at that beach
Was up there in the early 80's under the coalition. Just one tower, full of nice people, they would take my camera up the tower and made awesome shote for me. When I got up there a few decades later I was chased away with unreasonable security.
Interesting , I had no idea about specifics of this transmitter (apart from the 19.8kHz signal characteristics which we used in our research equipment for measuring ground impedance's). We could access this signal anywhere we surveyed around the world.
This is kinda how I was able to get an 3.8 Mhz HF signal out of a mid sized sedan a couple decades back, a capacitance hat. I'd clip small gater clips to the antenna to add capacitance and drop the resonant frequency as needed.
The name Harold E Holt was obviously bestowed upon the facility by Americans. Here in AU we just called him Harold Holt. Middle initials aren't a big deal down under unless perhaps if you like to be known by your middle name.

I read somewhere once that there’s a massive antipodal antenna that is used near Exmouth to communicate with the subs, not knowing anywhere near enough about electrical jiggery I put it down to the usual crazy conspiracy theories but now you’ve awakened my curiosity…
I just assumed it would be some variant of Morse Code? I dont think it was be practical to use any form of Modulation? Interested to see what you come up with.
Can anyone else hear the modulating hum? I think I might be hearing a harmonic 2 or 3 octaves up but then again... I have only a base understanding of the physics & I don't know if it's possible that a harmonic would be picked up by the mic, let alone if it would even occur close to an Rx device (I assume Rx, also I'm newb to Rx vs Tx theorem btw)
It might not cover the multi-megawatt energy demands, but I imagine the antenna has the added capability of energy generation and recovery of our Earth's 100V/m leakage current just like Ion Power Group set out to do years ago. It can resonate while under a DC bias, and stave off some of that potential to power electrical loads.
Watch for any signs of the land being sold. If it is being sold rush to tell them don't take down the antennas and you'll sign paperwork leaving them not responsible for any accidents involving the antenna's or equipment.
What do you know about the over the horizon radar (Jindalee), that was claimed to detect illegal fishing boats, etc, but I've never heard one news report of it being deployed for that and a subsequent arrest/convictions.
yeah i went to one of these sites recently near laverton and ole mate miker comment said it all the ramping up the old sites incase the satellites get busted shit scary stuff

Excellent video. I learnt more today about the Harold E Holt Communications Station than any other video I've found. Picking up the audio signal "hum" like this was awesome! I love that the loop antenna wasn't necessary 😅
20 kHz is the generally accepted upper limit to human hearing however many animals can hear frequencies quite a bit higher, I wonder if the wildlife in the area are affected in some way. I realize most of the power is put into radio waves however I imagine there would be a vibration induced in conductive materials nearby, and undoubtedly the wires and towers would vibrate... If I had to speculate I would guess that they are completely free of rodent problems within the facility :)
Sadly, i'm down to about 12khz upper limit now. Years, powertools, guns, loud music in the car, a few concerts have taken their toll. Earplugs most of the time have at least slowed it.
@@texasaggiegigsem Come again? Hehe I haven't tried to find out where I stand but given that I can claim all of the factors above I doubt mine is much different. After letting me know my hearing was generally fine, the Doc said that in his experience husbands getting tested because of their wives was hands down the most common reason middle aged men requested a test :)
The antennas of this one are all arranged in Sacred Geometry, and massive scorch marks on the ground depending on which satellite you're looking from. The Google Maps satellite doesn't hardly show them up, not sure what they've done. Usually things that use a satellite but are not specifically a map like flight trackers or weather will show things that Google has messed with.

How does moisture (wet dirt after rain) affect this installation?
Increase's ground conductivity
Assuming they maintain a resonant state,
ground moisture would improve the propagation of the signals

This a weird question: would folic acid accumulated in a person act in anyway as an identifier or increase the identifiable footprint of a human?
conspiracy theory 1, its a haarp base in australia, for weather manipulation
There are lots of smaller ones and thousands of them….on every generator station (small antenna arrays)😮😢

It depends how far away from the antenna you are.

I put that hum in the video :) it’s the antenna recording but demodulated down to human audible frequencies.
The EXACT same antenna exists in ROMANIA, on the way to PLOIESTI’, from Bucharest…………..

Umm, is it legal to take photos of military installations? I'm not saying either way, because I don't know.
That one yes. Maybe coz it's old tech. It used to be completely off limits decades ago. Now there is a nice little Cafe right next to it.

If it's visible from public roads it would be quite an unreasonable legal precedent to set.
