Absolutely love the Sony 20mm f1.8, couldn't believe the results from my first astro photography venture. Great comparison Mark thank you
Can't wait to try my Sony 11mm for astro...
how about louwa lens?
Haven't got trying any laowa lens out unfortunately
I really like using the Sigma 14mm Art.
I really want to try their new one
No Zeiss?
Hi. Just bought a Sony a6400 4k, and a Tamron 20mm F/2.8 Di111 OSD M1:2. They said it is a good setup for shooting on the Milky Way. Just if it helps you, I use Jpeg as am not doing any editing. If that helps. I use a decent tripod. Could if you can please comment on this camera and lens. Thank You. Not experienced photographer. Just learning.
You need to shoot in RAW, I've never used that camera before but to get the most out of the files to bring the milkyway to live on your photos you need a ton of editing
Just after editing have great photography
Mark, have you tried sony 16-25 f28 G for landscape? what do you think of the lens? sharp enough? Thank you
I have a Rokinon 14mm f2.8l it is an auto setting for the aperture; It is manual focus.
Other reviews I have seen indicate that this lens is fully manual. Are there both manual and auto versions of this same lens?
Astro is not simply milkyway, there are a different genres. There a also different brands in the photography business not just Sony (Same as in the computer business there are also different brands than apple)
How do you make singleshot photo on your Sony without startrails and an exposuretime of 2min and up WITHOUT an extra startracker setup (there are brands that can manage that but of course they are not Sony but using a sony sensor, and you don't have to buy a new body every year like an apple smartphone)
Who said I buy a new camera every year. Thanks for your rant
@@MarkDuffyPhotography Don't be oversensitive, i did not say that YOU buy a new camera every year or every half year (i simply don't know) it was more about sony productpolicy producing a new generation every year. For me as a non Sony user what qualifies the Sony cameras as astrocameras over the other brands, do they offer special features the others don't have.
Other brands tend to keep their models ffor a longer period of time. Of course every brand has a certain period they suppurt their gear with firmware updates, my impression is i don't see photographers with older Sony camera gear (other than Nikon,Canon, Pentax,...)
Nah I found your comment right on the money with your points. I was laughing with it. Though I have considered changing the title to be more Top 4 Ultra wide lenses for astro.
In terms of what Sony offer, ISO invariant sensors. So if you shoot at 800 of 10,000 the noise remains the same whether you raise the ISO800 file to match the 10000 or vice versa. 3rd party lenses make it very affordable compared to the overpricing of Canon lenses
Title of the video is a bit misleading.
Why? Because everyone in the comments is suggesting 24mm GM yet I'm only recommending ultra angle wide lenses. The only other lens I would be considering for this is the Sony 14mm f1.8 but I haven't tried it. But since the video was made Sigma has released a new 14mm f1.4 which I tried at an event and its really good. So no I stand by the video and title
@@MarkDuffyPhotography I'd say a better title would be, "The Top 4 Lenses for Nightscapes that I've used".
"Top" must mean the best !? So the 14mm must be Sony 14m 1.8 GM, also Sony 24mm 1.4 is missing in this "Top" 4
I wouldn't put any 24mm into a list of lenses for astrophotography as it's not wide enough. I haven't had the chance to try out Sony 14mm or the since released Sigma 14mm.
@@MarkDuffyPhotography Well, other photographers do !!! I have both the Sony 14mm 1.8 and Sony 24mm 1.8, both are excellent Lenses ! Sigma/Bigma is a huge monster.
@@MarkDuffyPhotography the Sony 14 1.8 is far easier to focus than the Sigma 14 1.4 but, although big and heavy, the Sigma is such a thoughtfully realized lens for astro !!
I have a Sigma 14-24mm F2.8 DG DN lens for astro on the a7iii.....
and I am looking for something a bit better for night time shots and also sunsets any suggestions would be lovely budget is up to around £1500
Is that not enough for Astrophoto? I was thinking about to buy it 😄
Just purchased the sigma 16 @ 1.4
What's its like? For me the 24mm equivalent angle of view isn't wide enough hence why I didn't include these type lenses. I rather ones where you see as much of the milkyway as possible
Pls check that new Viltrox 16mm 1.8, is incredibly good quality and is surprisingly cheap
Yeah I want to, I had this video recorded before they announced it, same with the new Sigma as well. Gonna reach out to them to see if I can get a test
Is the Samyang 12mm f2 still better for Astro compared to Sony E 11mm f1.8, mate?
I don't know I haven't got testing it out
lol
what about sigma 30 mm 1.4
Not wide enough for what I shoot
Sony 24mm f1.4 GM - my favorite lens, works a charm without being ultrawide. Some people do astro with 80mm lenses - all depends what you want to shoot in the night sky.
@Pharesm I've done some shots with my 135mm f1.8 but this was about wide angle lenses and yeah the 24mm f1.4 is an unreal lens for how I like to shoot its not near wide enough
@@MarkDuffyPhotography That is true, if you want to picture a large canvas of the night Skye, maybe including the ground you are standing on.
But there are Astro-photographers who use 80mm or even longer lenses, if they want to picture specific points of interest in the Night sky.
I found the 24mm quite good for showing some mountain and 2/3 sky...
I don't like the 14mm that much, but on APSC, the 11mm is pretty great, with little distortion.
@Pharesm that's fair but this video would've been about deep sky astro but the fact I listed ultra wide angle lenses should be clear. I can of course change the title but the message is still the same
hi..the samyang 12mm f2 is Compatible with sony a7iii ?
No its an APSC lens
ok thanks@@MarkDuffyPhotography
Another great vid Mark
Nice one thanks dude
Sony 24mm GM gang
20mm is as narrow as I'd go when shooting milkyways, I want to see as much of the sky as possible
