How was your experience working in LTC for your first RN job? I know it's been awhile, but I would appreciate any feedback. :)

LVNs are taught comprehensive assessments in school but in practice are responsible only for 'focused' assessments. The RN is supposed to assess the patient fully prior to or after the LVNs assessment. As far as diagnosis, unless you are an APRN, no nurse is able to diagnose. However, all nurses are able to utilize nursing diagnoses. Teaching is kind of tricky as LVNs are really only supposed to re-inforce RN teaching or co-teach with the RN.

I worked in LTC settings for more than 10 years. I'm looking forward in Hospice Care as a LVN. Our facility is under new management. I use to take care 30 patients, but now I take care 40 patients. That made my decision to switch a career in Hospice setting because I hear some Nurses that they liked the setting because their hours are flexible. What are your thoughts about working as a Hospice Nurse?

I work in a nursing home as a nurse on the night shift 12 hours. It's my first nursing Job since being out of school. It is a lot of work. And the nightshift is not any easier. I also have to pass my own medications. It's hard not to have a mental breakdown when you have to do a 3 hour incident report, chart, pass like 50 medications and do a bunch of treatments and skin assessments. But in the end I really do think it's kind of fun and always come back for more.

I live in NY and LPNs/LVNs can not assess, diagnose or teach. Is that different in Texas?

How do you like working in LTC as a LVN? Do you ever get stressed out? What kind of stethoscope do you have and does it ever get cold?

Great info, thanks so much, I just registered for a CNA course, it start Sept. 3rd Im so excited its 4 weeks long then I'm going to apply at the Senior Center in town that I currently volunteer at, people keep asking my why didn't I just try and go for my RN and my answer is always the same, I feel like it would be too overwhelming to take the classes and tests, but someday I would like to try, and what about an LPN is that the same as a CNA? How would I obtain a LPN license? Any advice? Thanks.

I was hoping this video would show mainly the nursing staff making actual rounds with residents - more of documentary. This is not a documentary. It may have well have just been an audio as there was no video example of the actual work.
