Similar in my case. While I'm professionally involved with electronics opening individual components is a more specialized skill so I always recommend to try to learn from others' experience first. Fortunately it turns out the SU-Z15 is pretty benign, no hidden traps or weird cleaners / chemicals required. The SU-Z15 has exactly the same ailments as mine already for a few years. Today it got worse, while idling it did produced a loud hum almost like a helicopter or truck outside. Time to restore it. I was surprised to see a black SU-Z15. Mine is silver and so is every Su_Z15 I saw on the net. If I have something to criticize on the SU-Z15 it's Technics' choice of 8-16 Ohm impedance for the speakers. 4-8 seems much more common; I've never seen 16 Ohm. I'm using 4 Ohm speakers myself which are technically overloading the SU-Z15 a bit but the sound is ok and the amplifier deals with it very gracefully. In theory this overload means I'm getting less power from it - and yes, sometimes it'd be great to have a bit of extra oomph. The overload also means its easy to drive the amplifier into self-protection with at a volume of 4 or 5 of 10 max. More inputs including bluetooth, coaxial and optical digital would also be nice to have. @manstuckonhishead Great video - you obviously know what you're doing and the video and editing is excellent!

І потім я не міг зрозуміти, де вона знаходилася. Випитував у Chat-GPT і згодом натрапив на ваше відео. Навідь не уявляєте як мені допомогло ваше відео! Кнопки в SU-500 трохи інщі але ідентичні і завдяки вашому відео на 6-й хвилині я зібрав все як слід! І взагалі почистив контакти слідуючи вашим діям і стало все чудово! Вам велика пошана і подяка!
Very usefull, my SU-Z15 is not exactly the same (power) but I am reassured to do this restoration......... I just finished reassembling everything after a complete cleaning, especially the potensiometer, all working properly, no more crackling and a clearer sound. Thank you very much for this tutorial

I don’t disagree with you but the issue is with the stk and the technics i/c units. Getting replacement stk modules ain’t easy and mostly fakes on the market. Getting the technics i/c module is gold dust. Apart from that it’s really nice kit. Mind nicest sounding stk based amp I have to say goes a kenwood ka-550. That is joy to listen to.

Hello. There was no problem with the capacitors. And the thermal paste was in good condition. We only replace the thermal paste when we change the stk. If there is no need, we do not do it. Because the paste used by the factory is of better quality for us.
I agree with the caps if they are working why replace but that stk chips thermal paste is probably hardened and dried I bet it could use a change a lot of work to go through just to have that chip blow up because of no ability to dissipate thermals…just a thought….I HATE those stk packs!!!! Неплохой усилитель Но слабовато зборка микросхемы SТК 4121 || 2х45w так как у меня музыкальный центр Aiwa 999 94 г и STK 4221 || 2х80w не сомневаюсь что можно поменять на два раза мощнее и подобрать если поискать именно только оригинал
Вот только это не заменит трансформатора, которого не будет хватать по мощности и этого обрубка вместо радиатора которого еле хватает и для этой микросборки.

I'm a fan of Panasonic technics hifi gear I love stk.power amps great sounding units .
I don’t disagree with you but the issue is with the stk and the technics i/c units. Getting replacement stk modules ain’t easy and mostly fakes on the market.
