Many of them have to be pruned and shaped to be like a tree. Else it'd become a bush. Don't let the branches grow close to the ground or cross each other. The centre should be open and should allow for light and air to flow through it.

Since the spacing between trees are not much, modified centre model should be fine. Ideally should be done from year one, but atleast do it now or it'd become unmanageable.
